Take in a short stroll to explore nearby Centennial Park, the Arkansas River trails, and the quaint downtown historic district. This location is central to all activities in the region and makes a perfect home-base while visiting and exploring the Royal Gorge Region.

This expansive 1898 Victorian-era cottage underwent a meticulous 18 month top-to-bottom renovation specifically designed to provide a five-star experience. As with all of our "A Step Back Inn" properties, this house was re-imagined as a unique yet cozy elegant experience for our guests through a blend of modern unexpected conveniences and vintage charm, paying homage to the bygone era through carefully curated furnishings, décor and amenities. Noteworthy features include a breathtaking chef's kitchen, large, connected family and dining rooms, game room, cozy workspace with desk, four fashionably appointed bedrooms with luxury linens, and three full bathrooms with all-natural luxury bath products provided.

Smart Roku TVs throughout all bedrooms and the main room will keep you connected and entertained. Dramatic ambient lighting and integrated USB outlets add an unexpected yet delightful touch of convenience.

A falling waters custom fountain will entice you into a private backyard oasis with hot tub, dining/lounge area, vintage brick pavers, atmospheric lighting, firepit and gas grill.

NEW FOR 2024 - MULTIPLE ADJACENT PROPERTIES CAN ACCOMMODATE YOUR LARGE GROUP!

We are excited that we can now accommodate even larger groups in multiple, nearly adjacent homes, all operating under the trusted "A Step Back Inn" brand. With two additional historic renovated homes coming online in the spring and summer of 2024.
House 2 will sleep 12 people in five bedrooms over two levels (also designed with the first level to be wheelchair friendly)

House 3 will sleep 8 guests in three bedrooms and a sleeper sofa (also pet friendly), for a total accommodation of up to 28 guests between these three nearly adjacent homes. Perfect for your gatherings such as weddings or family get togethers/reunions. We work with many area event venues as well for further cohesive booking opportunities.

Kevin is a wonderful host of a stunningly restored property. The house had everything you could possibly want for making a celebration special. The beds are comfortable and the yard is a lovely space to relax in with a hot tub and bbq. The house is an easy walk to the Royal Gorge train and Main Street Cañon city.

We loved this property! The house was more than what we expected. The location was fantastic. We were able to walk everywhere. The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He met us the night we got there and told us about the property and also shared places that we should visit while in Cañon City. We all loved the kitchen as there was plenty of room wall of us to hang out in it at the same time. We also enjoyed the hot tub. The outdoor area was private and beautiful. We highly recommend this property and would love to visit again!

Absolutely ideal. We are tall people with lots of big personalities and we didn’t know how we would work in this “Victorian era cottage”. It was perfect! I 100% recommend this or any of Kevin’s properties. His attention to detail is amazing. We had amazing gatherings around the big dining room table. Cooked yummy meals in his amazing kitchen. Took hot tubs in his pristine hot tub. Kevin had great advice for local food and activities for the time of year when you visit. Who KNEW Cañon City was such a great destination. We took the jeep tour with Colorado Jeep Tours and it was great. Good tour guide and bouncy fun AND dinosaur footprints . Enjoy !

A Welcoming Home away from home

This property in Canon City is at least what is described in vrbo if not better. It is in a sweet neighborhood close to downtown-very close to the train station. The decorating is beautiful and it has absolutely everything you could ever need. The owners have several properties around Canon City and I will definitely stay in their properties from now on when visiting. They are the best!!

Beautifully decorated, layout is great for guests, location was so convenient - just around the corner from the Royal Gorge Railroad station, lovely park close by, and quiet neighborhood. Kevin met us at the house to show us around when we arrived and was very helpful. Check out was super easy when we left. The only small “challenge” we had was figuring out the indoor lighting. It’s looks lovely but on timers and the switches were a little confusing but we figured it out. We would stay here again in a heartbeat

Better than the pictures!

This property is better than the pictures (which says a lot!) The decor and furniture was done very well and super comfortable. A fenced in back yard was great to unwind in after full days. We were very close to rafting, zip lining, hiking and food. Canon City is a great place full of history, natural beauty and activities.

This house is amazing! The home has been beautifully renovated and is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful and has everything needed to make a wonderful meal. The back yard is so relaxing with a water feature and a lovely sitting area with a fire table. The backyard also has a nice grill and table with an umbrella for enjoying meals outside. The lighting and ambiance in this house is spectacular! Kevin is a great host and does everything to make your stay perfect! This property has our highest recommendation!

This is the best VRBO house I've ever stayed in and we have stayed in several over the years. Host is 5 star. House is very clean and impeccably decorated. Contains everything you need from towels, to sheets, to shampoo/lotion, just bring your suitcase. House is in a quiet area and is walking distance to downtown area, park, hiking trails and more. Very comfortable in square footage size to accommodate our 7 adult family. Backyard with hot tub is a very relaxing area. Would recommend to anyone and already have.

I’ll be honest, I was skeptical booking this place. The only thing I knew about Cañon City was… prisons. But I was so wrong. The town is adorable, quiet, and felt completely safe. Everyone was friendly, and it has that easy small-town charm that instantly puts you at ease.Now, the house... the photos do not do it justice. You can tell a lot of love went into the remodel. Whoever decorated it deserves an award! It’s that perfect mix of cozy and elegant. I was worried it might feel cramped with my in-laws, but we had plenty of space to spread out and still feel like we each had our own corner to breathe.And the backyard… just wow. The patio is made from bricks stamped with “Royal Gorge,” which is such a cool touch. The fire pit area is perfect for hanging out, the water feature is super relaxing, and the hot tub... I honestly could’ve slept in it. (It’s also closer to the house than it looks in the photos.)The host went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. It’s also walking distance to a cute park and a bridge that crosses the Arkansas River into town and the train depot.Speaking of, do the train ride! You can grab the regular seats and just hang in the open car for the best views. We also did a Jeep tour across the Royal Gorge Bridge - totally worth it.This house gets a 20/10 from us. Every part of this trip was incredible, and nothing about Cañon City disappointed.

Beautiful house, well appointed and loads of character!

We came down from Denver area to visit the Royal Gorge. With two small children we decided to make it a weekend since our Littles can really only handle one thing a day, having a kitchen to cook (as opposed to having to go out for every meal) was key. The beds were all very comfortable, the ac units in the upstairs rooms were key. We had coffee out back every morning and made smores out back at night. The hot tub made it feel like an oasis. The best part was the kids got a full weekend with their Nana and Auntie, and played games in the game room. The house had everything and we were truly able to relax and enjoy our weekend. Wishing we'd have made it a 3 day weekend. Kevin was a fantastic host as well - you can tell he cares about his properties, his town and his guests.

A Perfect Sanctuary

It's hard to know where to begin! First, Kevin himself is lovely. We got the opportunity to meet when we checked in. He showed us around the house, which he renovated himself, and answered my endless questions about finishes and processes. I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. The house is immaculately decorated. It was so fun to inspect all the tile and woodworking....I left with lots of ideas for my own home! Everything was thought of to provide comfort for guests. Tons of cookware and service dishes. TONS! Lots of coffee options and a Keurig. Water and soda and any spice you could ever ask for. This is hands down the best equipped vacation rental we have ever stayed in! The sheets were luxurious, the beds extremely comfortable, and plenty of linens plus robes for all guests. Each room is equipped with a smart TV. The lighting in this house is top notch! Such fun details that I have never before seen that proved to be super useful during our stay. The designer/electrician is truly gifted! Bonus...USB outlets everywhere! Aside from being beautiful, the house was SPOTLESS! Not a spec of dust anywhere. One of the most wonderful things we encountered during our stay was all the deer in the neighborhood! We sat on the lovely porch and had 11 within 8 feet of us at one point. So fun to watch. We will definitely visit again and stay in Kevin's house when things open back up in Cañon City! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This property is simply fantastic!!! Kevin spared no expense in his meticulous 18-month long total renovation of this 1898 Victorian home. His eye for interior design is quite apparent in every tiny detail he has woven together to create the most exquisite and aesthetically pleasing home I've ever stepped foot in (and I'm an ex-real estate broker, so that's saying a LOT). He somehow managed to perfectly combine modern comforts (USBs by every bed and in multiple outlets throughout the home, automatic lighting, roku and spectrum, wifi, ring system, etc.) while also staying true to the time period of the home... you have to stay here to experience how incredible this property is! He really thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, relaxing, and convenient! Kevin was so friendly and fun- we loved that we got to hang out with him for a little bit at one point. 5***** STRONGLY RECOMMEND... you will not be disappointed!

Amazing property

The home was beautifully staged and the lighting was incredible. The kitchen draws you in and then you have to decide to go out back and enjoy the peaceful setting with the water feature or stay inside and just take in the decor. The gas grill and gas fire table were great additions to allow us to entertain family. The home is close to everything, but yet far enough to not have the traffic or noise that comes with congestion. We were able to text the owner with questions that were answered immediately. You can tell they take great pride in their property and really cared about our experience! We will definitely stay here again if it is available next time we are in town!

Little Slice of Heaven!

My family visited Cañon City for a funeral and decided to all come together and stay in this house instead of separate hotel rooms. The pictures don’t do this house justice! It’s just stunning, top to bottom. Kevin greeted us at the house and gave us a tour. The house is decorated perfectly. No expense was spared. The sheets- so soft. Memory foam mattresses. Turkish bath towels and Beekman 1802 bath products in all bathrooms. The kitchen is loaded with all the appliances you’ll need, although I do recommend bringing plastic bags for food storage as we didn’t find any food storage containers. The hot tub was delightful- but I’d recommend bringing a swimsuit you don’t love because my red swimsuit is now a delightful shade of coral (which I actually like!). Bottom line- if you’re looking for a place that’s close to everything and great for a group, this place is for you. Bravo Kevin!!

Perfect Honeymoon Spot for Us

This place was beautifully finished and perfectly accommodating. Definitely one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed! The host were great and bent over backwards to get us booked. I highly recommend this stay for couples or families and large groups as there are plenty of comfortable beds. The hot tub just topped everything else off.
