PROPERTY OVERVIEW:

The Nene Nest, Kauai is a classic, sugar plantation- style cottage located on the always sunny West Side of Kauai. Just 152 steps from the ocean, it offers a true Hawaii feel.

Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; sipping coffee on the updated lanai in the mornings with a book in hand, or by relaxing on the beach surrounded by sunshine and ocean breezes on the beautiful garden isle of Kauai.

This charming authentic island cottage was featured in Tiny Homes Magazine and in the 'Love Shacks: Romantic cabin charmers, modern getaways and rustic retreats around the world' coffee table book and we can't wait for you to experience it!

THE SPACE:

Completely restored and remodeled, it features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, bedroom air conditioning and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

THE AREA:

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

THE PERFECT WEST SIDE LOW-KEY DAY:

Awake for coffee on the garden lanai.
Drive two minutes and take a morning walk on the longest white sand beach on Kauai.
Stop for lunch at the Lodge at Kokee before an invigorating hike in Waimea Canyon.
Wash off your hiking muscles in the outdoor hot shower.
Stroll two doors down to the ocean, cocktail in hand, to watch the island’s best sunset.
Prepare a light supper in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen.

This home is a hidden gem! The house is hidden from the road but consider this a plus. The directions are spot on. The host was always responsive. The back yard is well maintained and private but close enough that you can still hear the ocean waves. Breakfast on the lanai every morning was wonderful. The interior of the house is charming. We had all of the amenities - the hosts went out of their way to make sure no detail was overlooked. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have lawn chairs and beach towels. Overall, a wonderful experience. If we ever get back to Kauai, we would definitely book the NeNe Nest again.

We stayed at the Nene cottage back in 2013 and loved it! That's why we decided to come back. The location is a little far from the airport but that's the reason we like it here in Kekaha, less tourist and basically no traffic. The cottage has everything you need, from coolers, beach chairs, boogie boards, board games, towels, etc. We did noticed that it's basically the same as 13 years ago so it needs some maintenance, like the front screen door was hard to close among other things. In spite of a strong Kona low pressure storm front coming in we enjoyed our time at the Nene Nest immensely. The cottage was what we expected. The listing was accurate. This is a beautiful little home just steps away from the ocean. It is small but has spacious rooms, is excellently renovated and is tastefully decorated. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, private garden and front balcony. It is truly a gem, a wonderful find and is highly recommended. It was an honour to stay there.

What a beautiful little house! The two bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use. We ate on the little lanai in the front, which was delightful. Melissa was immediately responsive to our questions. The town of Waimea is very close and charming, with plenty of food options, and Salt Pond Beach is 15 minutes away and wonderful. We loved being away from all the resorts, in a quiet neighborhood right by the ocean. I would stay here again in a minute!

While we live in Seattle full time, most of our family live on-island. We have been coming here for over twenty years and finally decided it was time to call a piece of it ‘home’ and give others a place to enjoy this beautiful island from.
