Cabin was a really nice place to stay for a short snowmobiling trip up north. Cabin just as described. Was able to get to the trails from the house but had to navigate a few paved roadsides. Awesome scenery and deep snow around this secluded cabin. Bring 4WD in the winter.
If you’re looking for a private cabin stay this is it. The house is on 60 acres of land with your own personal walking trails! The deck view of the river is unbelievable. There are stairs to get down to the river for what ever activity you want. We did some fly fishing and just walking around in the river. There are two canoes there as well. Amazing stay!
My wife and I wanted a quiet escape and this was a perfect place. The pictures don’t do this cabin and property way all. We hiked in the snow and had a cozy fires inside. The cabin is extremely clean. If you are big into cooking be aware that the cookware and supplies are limited. Love it!!!
This was our second stay at Sturgeon Valley and we are already looking forward to the next time. Our first time staying was in February and we got hit with over a foot of snow. This only added to the charm of the location as we were able to enjoy walks through the beautiful property with our dogs and could curl up by the wonderful fireplace afterwards. I even asked my wife to marry me while we at the cabin. When it came time to plan our honeymoon getaway after our October wedding, we couldn't think of a better place to disconnect and enjoy ourselves. October was an incredible time to be here as the leaves had changed and the wildlife was abundant. The trails through the property offer the perfect place to stroll with the dogs and the views of the river behind the cabin are priceless. The cabin is clean, easy to find, and really a one-of-a-kind experience for the price with the amount of property there is to explore. We can't wait to be back!

Great location, beautiful scenery and comfy cabin. Needed washer and dryer and had mouse droppings inside as expected for deep in the woods but very comfortable
Definitely a return to cabin. Location is excellent on privacy. A stream in the back, trails to walk, head up to Mackinac area, down to Gaylord, or do a tube or kayak trip nearby. OR relax on the back deck with a beautiful view!
This was a very secluded property. The view of river from the cabin was priceless. We walked daily on the trails. I'd love to know the history of the place. It looks likenit was a bird rehab.
Everything about this place was perfect. Would love to rent this same property next year! The place was beautiful and equipped with everything we needed during our stay in the kitchen. The bedrooms were great, bathroom, down by the river, bonfire, etc. I would recommend to friends and family and stay there again. Only thing I would change is that the AC/air we couldn't get to work; it got very hot and everyone had a hard time sleeping. Otherwise great stay!
My husband, two adult kids and grandson stayed at property in mid August. We ate on the back porch for every meal, and had bonfires at night. The river is beautiful, and the grounds so pretty. It’s truly in the middle of nowhere, but close to Charlevoix and Lake Michigan. We loved our stay!
My husband and I stayed at this cabin for three nights earlier this month with our dog. We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean, even with it being a pet friendly property. Only the upstairs bedrooms have carpet, which looked brand new. The main floor has hard surface flooring throughout.
The location was great. Once at the property you feel like you are very secluded. However, Gaylord is only a short 15-20 minute drive away. Sitting out on the deck and listening to the river was very relaxing.
There were only a couple things that we would change. First, more pegs/hooks to hand clothes or wet towels on would be helpful in the bedrooms and bathroom. Second, the sliding door screen in the main bedroom was missing the bottom 18” so we couldn’t leave it open to enjoy the sound of the river or the breeze. Finally, we wish there would have been a map of the property so we would have known how far we could explore across the little bridge on the river.
If we are ever in the Vanderbilt area again, we would definitely stay at this cabin again and recommend it to anyone looking for some tranquility while still being close to Gaylord.
Arrive at the property passing junk tires as we pull down the drive. When we open the door, greeted by the scent of cleaning solvents that struggle to mask the faint smell of cigarette smoke. It's May, so it seems truly odd that Christmas decorations still adorn the whole house. Instead of firewood, there's a bag of garbage in the fire pit. The grill, rusted and filthy, nobody in their right mind would eat anything prepared on this surface. Conveniently cropped from the online photos are the chicken pens and shanties that seem to encircle the cabin. The grounds are in disrepair and unkempt (yes, we've got photos of all this).
Immediately we contact Cristian, the property owner, and inform him of the state of the property and let him know that we will not be staying there. He agrees to provide a full refund... and then disappears. VRBO can't reach him, we can't reach him — not via phone, text or VRBO messenger.
Letting the credit card company handle it now.

Sturgeon River cabin in Vanderbilt,Mi.
Absolutely breath taking property! Debbie & I loved the cabin & it's surrounding's. The place was clean & better than we expected. Christian, the owner, checked in with me a couple times but we had no internet connection during our stay so no phones or TV for 3 nights. Could get a phone cell only if we drove a few miles away from the cabin. The river, leaves changing colors, & cabin were beautiful & the place had everything we needed. I'd definitely come back again in the future & would enjoy living there permanently! 😊😊😊
Wow! What a great place for a getaway. We had our son & wife, daughter & grandson with us for a 3 day getaway. Enjoyed the spacious cabin, the river, and the campfire at night. The cabin was very clean and plenty of supplies! A+++++
Loved being away from other houses! Wish the master patio door screen was fixed. Love Michigan fresh air when I sleep.
