This was a great place for our extended family to meet for a long holiday weekend. We had a fun relaxing, hiking at the local parks, and just being together.
Our stay was so wonderful! We had the best time at the house making use of the big kitchen for hanging out, meals and dancing! The yard provided such a beautiful atmosphere! Great for a larger group with the many rooms and bathrooms!
We throughly enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious and comfortable. LOVED the kitchen! Spent a lot of time on the screen porch. Leslie is a wonderful host!
We held a work retreat at The Trees and this was a perfect space to gather. Leslie was super helpful and thorough and we will definitely book more events here in the future!

Great group, clear communication and flexibility. I’d host them again in a minute.
The house was a perfect place for our extended family to stay while attending our son’s graduation from the Cornell Veterinary Medicine School. Quiet and located out of town near some beautiful sights, we were able to live as a large family, preparing our meals in a professional kitchen and playing on the extensive grounds.
A charming house! Plenty of room for large group! Professional kitchen, enough room for everyone enjoy the time together while making meals! Leslie is very nice and responsive. Thanks for the camp fire! We had a wonderful stay! Would stay here again

It was my pleasure to host you, and I’ll look forward to seeing you again. :)
Great house and property, lots of room, relaxing, very enjoyable. 2nd year in a row for our group and we will be back again. Leslie is very helpful. Huge kitchen with tons of accessories. Loved it and highly recommend.
The kitchen was enormous and we didn't use it to the full potential. All 10 of us comfortably hung out in many of the common areas ( kitchen, dining room, sun room). The beds were very comfortable and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat

Great guests. They had clear communication, they left the house in good order, and they had a great stay. I’d book them again in an instant. :)
Beautiful estate exactly as shown in photos. Plenty of space for large groups and lots of amenities - the kitchen is top-notch. Its one weakness is that bugs love to get into the house and hover near light sources at night (but who can blame them haha). Leslie was a great host who left wonderful little touches to make us feel welcome and was incredibly responsive when we had any questions!

Beautiful home and grounds. Lots of character and charm We rented the house for 10 of us for graduation weekend. Plenty of room. Stocked kitchen. Great outdoor space. Hosts stay in carriage house on property. They made a bonfire for us and accommodated in other ways. No major complaints.
The estate was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our large, extended family vacation. There was so much to do in the area with Taughannock falls state park. Lake Cayuga, wineries just a few minutes down the road and Ithica only a short drive away. On the estate itself we had everything we needed and more. Leslie was extremely helpful and we took full advantage of exploring the grounds and using the huge fire pit area in the evenings. The kitchen was fully stocked, beautiful, and modern, paired with the historic (but spacious and comfortable) bedroom, sitting rooms, and screened in porch we had plenty of space and it was truly a unique stay. We had a wonderful time!

Thanks so much for coming to stay at the estate. I enjoyed meeting you and your family are I’m happy that you had a great time!!
We were immediately drawn to the property as we saw the gorgeous architecture of the building and were so happy with how communicative and accommodating Leslie was for our wedding weekend! Our bridal party loved staying here and catching up with each other in the multiple areas set up for conversation. We enjoyed exploring the house, watching the going-ons of the frog pond, and being able to have a home base during a hectic weekend. Leslie was fantastic and contributed to us having a magical weekend!! I cannot recommend this property enough, it is GORGEOUS.

Chloe and Matt were amazing guests. It’s always really special to host a party that has a wedding. They were communicative and respectful and bc actually, just an our joy to host. Guests like this remind of why I host. :) thanks you guys
We had an awesome time at Leslie’s house. It’s beautiful and full of character. The best part of the house is the kitchen. If you love to cook and entertain this is the house to rent. I rented this house for myself and 12 friends for my wedding weekend. It was an awesome time. We were able to enjoy the fire pit and she has a lovely enclosed porch. Leslie was very responsive for anything we needed. Even though she does live on the property it didn’t seem like she was even there. I highly recommend this house if you love to cook and appreciate architecture!
This was a fantastic experience for me and my family. The property was everything we had hoped for and exactly as described and imagined. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Leslie had everything taken care of and provided a warm, inviting atmosphere - especially the wonderful kitchen area which was well supplied with amenities and made for a great gathering spot for us throughout our stay. For a property of its age we were very happy to find everything in working order and in good condition, save for a few doorknobs that needed adjustment. would stay again and highly recommend.
Rundown + Health and Safety Issues - Owner uses age of home to excuse its state of disrepair.
We've rented many VRBOs + have never had a stay like this. We were very disappointed + did not think it reflected the standards of VRBO, the listing description/reviews, nor the exorbitant rate. Listing images were from the real estate listing when house was on the market, not in its current state. She charged us a very high cleaning fee yet home was filthy upon our arrival. The kitchen had dirty floors, dirty sinks with food filled strainers, dirty/food streaked appliance handles/surfaces, an extremely dirty, greasy stove/oven + dirty pots, pans, dishes, utensils we had to wash before using + created a clean station to place them in as we didn't want to mix them with the other dirty items + the cabinets were dirty. Drawers had dirty dish towels. Our socks were filthy from floors. The 1st night my niece found her sheets covered in stains + loose dirt + had to strip bed at midnight. She found a slug on the floor of her bedroom (in late Nov) + several insects. Daughter's room had so many bugs, she could not sleep in it, as before she tried many found their way to her items + bed. There were clusters on the ceiling + windows. They landed on her + her computer as she tried to work that night. We planned to grill the 1st night but grill was caked with thick black greasy soot + unusable. Counters + laundry room surfaces were cluttered.Nowhere to hang jackets bc hooks were full of clothes. When we opened the washer on Sat (4 days in) to do a load we were overtaken with a horrible odor bc they left wet towels sealed inside for days which we had to rewash.Washer was covered in black mold. So many things did not work: overhead lights, disposal, shower heads, etc. Lamps had dead bulbs + no spares. Veggies were ruined for Thanksgiving bc they froze in fridge. Many rooms were too cold. A bedroom closet had a broken elevator shaft with dangling electrical wires + very thick cobwebs. One washcloth for 8 of us. Pillows, bedding, mattresses(no mattress pads)were very old + very stained. Main door that we used multiple times a day was very difficult to open. We were surprised to find we were sharing house with another person since it wasn't mentioned in listing. We could see him through the floorboards-not the level of privacy expected nor made aware of. As we weren't afforded the courtesy of a cleaning, we requested a refund of fee + to consider if it was fair to charge us such high rates for the stay. Sent pics of conditions to VRBO. Wish we'd been fairly warned.
The property is so beautiful & magical!
We had a small event (with Leslie's permission) in the backyard and there are so many potential spaces that looked amazing. She is really putting so much care into the property and improving it.
The kitchen is incredible and very well stocked. The chef who used it was so happy with it.
Leslie was a wonderful host, who helped us tremendously. Highly recommend staying at The Trees!
We had a wonderful time and appreciated the ease woth which Leslie communicated and worked with us. We had an amazing time and a beautiful wedding. Thank you!
Great Property and Great Location. Property was historical, unique and beautifully maintained. Everyone is stilling raving about the experience weeks later!

It was such a pleasure to host you and your family. And I’m glad you enjoyed your time here, it’s a very special place.
We had a great time at the property. The house was very spacious and clean. Leslie, the property manager was very nice and responsive to all of requests. The house is in a great location.
Beautiful historic home with wonderfully updated kitchen was great for a family get together - when we weren't out hiking or at museums we spent most of our time gathered in the kitchen or on the screen porch. Lovely property, easy to find and convenient to Ithaca, Corning Museum, Watkins Glen, and other local attractions. Farmers markets everywhere had great local produce.
The room arrangement was a little odd, with one of the full bathrooms directly off the kitchen. But we had plenty of room for the 8 of us and enjoyed the stay.

About the host
Hosted by Leslie Muhlhahn
I am the owner The Trees Estate, an elegant 155 year old, 5,078 sq. ft., 6 bedroom Italianate estate in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. Acquiring the property in December 2019, I am excited for this new adventure. I have been a professional chef for over 30 years, a long time vendor at the Ithaca Farmer's Market, and a local business owner for over 25 years. I am a professionally trained chef, specializing in pastries, wedding cake, and wood-fired pizza. I live on the grounds of the property, in the carriage house, with my three Akitas, Groucho, Guinevere, and Nadia, spending many days gardening and cooking on-site. In addition to the beautiful landscaping on the property, I have put in a raised bed herb and edible flower garden, available for guest use, on the backside of the house. I feel there's nothing that can replace the experience of cooking with fresh, locally-grown produce and I would be glad to direct guests to the best local markets, farms, restaurants and wineries. I value providing an enjoyable vacation for our guests using my experience to suggest the best of the bounty of the Finger Lakes, by creating a comfortable retreat, and sharing the history of The Trees. It is the ultimate compliment to have guests choose The Trees for cherished family time and memorable, once in a lifetime events. I hope that you find the house and hospitality welcoming and consider this magical place to be your home in the Finger Lakes.
Why they chose this property
Much of this 1867 house is original, you can feel the history here. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the house has been thoughtfully renovated in 2011, continuously updated this last decade. The extra large kitchen is perfect for cooking, and is well equipped. The house is bright and airy, and it is centrally located, convenient travel to the Seneca and Cayuga wine trails, local breweries, Ithaca, Trumansburg, and myriad state parks and water falls that grace our beautiful area.
