About this property
The Magical Chez Tree Rest Treehouse perched 35' above the forest floor!
Your hosts, Tom and Lisa Wallace, are happy to welcome you to The Chez Tree Rest, our 2 story treehouse perfectly perched under a heavily canopied scenic hillside - 35' above the forest floor on 2 towering Maple trees. As you walk to the treehouse across the 60' cable bridge you will feel the stress and cares of everyday life melt away. The treehouse is 150 square feet of pure magic and the perfect spot for a romantic getaway high up in the trees. Our treehouse is located on 20 acres of hardwood forest just outside of the sleepy village of Lafayette, NY - 10 miles south of Syracuse, NY and 24 miles north of Cortland, NY. Just a very short drive to wine country and the Finger Lakes region. As you arrive at the property, you will find a wonderful burgundy gold leaf sign and a gravel road which leads down a 1/4 mile drive to the treehouse. There is a security gate at the beginning of the road which should be open. If it happens to be closed, it is not locked so you will be able to manually push it open. The treehouse itself is accessed across a 60' cable bridge. There are only a few (7) stone steps which lead down to the bridge and then it is an easy walk up to the treehouse. Below the treehouse is a large, (320 square feet), deck protected by a timber frame pavilion with a fire pit and ample seating. The deck also provides the location of the shower (with on demand hot water) and a propane BBQ grill. There is also a separate fire pit area below the treehouse which has plenty of seating and a stone edged fire ring. There is a convenient, tiny bathroom in the treehouse with a composting toilet. A couple of years ago, we added full time electricity and potable water as well. There is a small, electric heater for those cooler nights. There is a great deal of outdoor relaxing space on the treehouse level as well. There is approximately 80 square feet of decking connected to the treehouse. In addition, there is a separate 12' octagon deck that is anchored on a separate tree connected to the main deck by another 30' cable bridge. For cooking, we provide a propane camp stove and a microwave oven. There is also a BBQ grill on the lower deck below the treehouse. All the pots, pans, Keurig coffee maker, silverware and other utensils you should need will be provided. Let the trees gently sway you to sleep amidst the soothing sounds of barred owls and the babbling brook.

This was such a great place to stay! The owners were communicative and so nice. We had to change our arrival day, and the owner was super flexible and even gave us a partial refund within 24hrs due to a slight price decrease. We have been recommending this place to all of our friends! Thank you for geeat memories and, if the timing allows, wed live to spend more time here in the future.
The treehouse was awesome. Everything was great. The location was very secluded. Despite being 15 minutes from lots of things to do and see, it felt like we were the only people for miles around.
This place is so beautiful! Such a neat experience to stay in a treehouse for the weekend. So peaceful and relaxing! The place was very well kept and so clean! Thank you Tom and Lisa!
The Magical Treehouse was just that….”Magical!” The Treehouse delivered as promised. Everything was just as expected from the posted photos. Absolutely no surprises. The great communication from the hosts was icing on the cake. If you ever wanted to stay in a “Treehouse” this is the one!
Our visit to the treehouse was amazing. Our host's provided everything we needed for a wonderful stay. They paid so much attention to every single detail. Even left us robs to use! We did go out to Beak & Skiff and visited a couple of the local waterfalls but couldn't wait to get back to have a drink on the swing by the babbling brook. So pretty at night with everything lit up! Such a relaxing vacation and when it was time for bed the sounds of the owls and brook were like a lullaby!
Everything about this place is so perfect that you won't want to go back to the daily grind. The hosts, Tom and Lisa, have paid attention to every detail and every comfort of home away from home.

Exquisitely designed treehouse nearly 40 ft up in the canopy. Absolutely loved the quiet, peaceful woodland during our 2 night stay. Spent almost all of our time sitting on the sky porch enjoying our surroundings including the babbling brook beneath us. Close to great restaurants, orchards, wineries/breweries and hiking trails complete with waterfalls. Will definitely go back!

My husband and I booked the treehouse for an adventurous anniversary getaway. The treehouse was amazing- so quaint and cozy. The tree deck and the pavilion under the treehouse were great places to hang out. Coffee on the tree deck listening to the birds in the morning. Fires, food and drinks at night under the pavilion. We left the treehouse feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Tom and Lisa did an amazing job on this treehouse. They stock everything you would need throughout your trip. It truly is magical and I can’t wait to come back. They were extremely helpful finding the treehouse and showing you around the property. The view on the platform and the outdoor shower was great. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Wonderfully eclectic stay for our 25th Anniversary. Despite the record heat we REALLY enjoyed unplugging and relaxing to the sounds of birds and a babbling brook. A much needed respite that allowed us to recharge after busy work schedules. Will be back.

Totally awesome! Giving this property and the hosts five stars simply is not enough. The tree house is immaculate and gorgeous. The hosts are extremely accommodating and go above and beyond with small details to insure their guests have a wonderful experience. We had so much fun and were able to relax and enjoy the treehouse and all it had to offer. This is one stay where you won't be disappointed. We look forward to returning in the future.

Such a magical place. Attention to detail was amazing. We cooked a great dinner on the grill down at the lower deck with a nice evening fire and a glass of wine. I was so looking forward to an outdoor shower and this one really hit the mark, a great treat. Highly recommend this place to everyone. Thank you to our hosts Tom and Lisa. We will be back. Thanks so much Greg and Holly! Thanks for making us a part of your 35th anniversary celebration! Lisa and I enjoyed meeting you guys. Come back again!
EVERYTHING as described and more. Place was so clean you'd of thought we were the first guests. Hosts were very accessible via text during our stay. The construction of this tree house is amazing and detailed. The ability to sit at a fire even during rain was a plus and complete with barn owls calling in the distance at night. Minutes away from a small town with a great breakfast diner, but completely secluded in the woods. We just can't say enough about how cool this place is.
Our treehouse stay was more than I expected. The grounds surrounding the treehouse are so peaceful and relaxing. From the sounds of the small stream below to the birds chirping, I loved the serenity. I could not stop smiling the entire time I was there. I was concerned that the treehouse would be hot without air conditioning but with the treehouse being nestled beneath a canopy of tree’s, the provided fan kept us cool at night, even in the middle of our August stay. Everything was perfect.

Mindy, it’s very fulfilling for Lisa and I when guests appreciate the treehouse as much as we do. We thoroughly enjoyed spending some time with you and Nancy! Thank you for staying with us and we sincerely hope our paths will cross again!
The set up and decorations were lovely. Very peaceful and ideal for a romantic get away. However, the compost toilet was inside the treehouse where as other treehouse stays we’ve visited had the toilet outside with the shower. This caused a foul smell inside the cabin and was difficult to Even want to use the bathroom as there were nats everywhere. While the compost toilet is a great idea having it inside where you also eat and make food was not ideal.

Thanks for your comments Brandi. Happy that you enjoyed your stay but sorry you weren’t satisfied with the composting toilet. We are always looking for ways to improve the guest’s experience at the treehouse. When we built the treehouse, we really felt that it would be much better to have a “bathroom” inside the treehouse so we wouldn’t have to walk so far in the middle of the night to go. (My wife was a passionate advocate for this, lol). Consequently, we provided a “bathroom” in the treehouse to avoid this. The bathroom where the composting toilet is located is actually a separate room, (albeit small room), that has its own door so it can be kept closed. The toilet itself has a small computer fan which runs 24/7 to exhaust any odors to the outside coming from the toilet. As long as the toilet is used correctly, (I have extensive instructions included in the Treehouse Manual as well as reminders posted in the bathroom), the bathroom door is kept closed, and the toilet is maintained regularly, odor from the toilet is usually not an issue. (Honestly, you are the first guest to mention this in the 5 years we have been hosting). Thanks for staying with us however and providing us with considerations to improve the guest experience.
My husband needed time away from the busyness of life as did I! And we both love being in nature and prefer simple accommodations. We are not five star fancy hotel types! This treehouse was everything we could have asked for and more. Our stay was amazing and we loved hanging out on the deck amongst the treetops. We ate all our meals there. The kitchen was well stocked. We used the camp stove and the bbq grill. We relaxed in the hammock and the swing. Comfortable bed and what a treat to hear the babbling creek and the birds in the morning and the evening. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Tom and Lisa Wallace
My wife Lisa and I have been happily married for over 38 years. We make our home just 1/4 mile up the hill from the treehouse. Close proximity means that we are almost always available to promptly see to your needs for your stay. At the same time, we respect your privacy and if you don’t need something attended to immediately, you probably won’t see us.
Why they chose this property
When I sold my business in 2015, Lisa and I were looking for some land to build a camp on. From the moment I walked down the hill on this property, and saw the spot on the hillside overlooking the brook below, I knew I wanted to build something special on this spot. I have loved the show Treehouse Masters since it began. The unique location of this spot didn't lend itself to a conventional "camp" built on the ground. We knew we had to look to the trees. I purchased the plans for the treehouse directly from Treehouse Masters, (Be In A Tree). I spent the summer of 2016 building the treehouse. We have loved it ever since. We hope that you will love it as well.
