Fish Hook Cove on Lake Superior. Enjoy Grand Marais, Lutsen & the North Shore!
Welcome to Fish Hook Cove! Ideally located on Cascade Beach Road halfway between Lutsen and Grand Marais, this vintage 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cabin was built in 1938 and updated in 2019 to add modern conveniences to this quaint retreat's original charm and character. A large wood burning fireplace constructed from hand- picked stones from the property’s stunning shoreline is the focal point of this comfortable cottage that sleeps four. Recent updates include: fully remodeled bathrooms and kitchen complete with all new appliances, including a dishwasher, an expansive multi-level deck modeled after the original deck built in the 1930's. Adding to the historical significance of this vintage cabin is the re-use of white pine harvested from the Old Globe Grain Elevator in Superior, Wisconsin. Half of the cabin's interior walls, along with several meticulously hand- crafted pieces of furniture, use the nearly 200 year old Old Globe Elevator white pine - check out the many Old Globe Elevator photographs framed with Old Globe white pine. The cozy cabin is only half of the story. This stunning lake shore property includes a winding path to a wooden foot bridge across a private cove leading to a meandering massive ledge rock shoreline. Fish Hook Cove is the perfect mix of unmatched lake views, dramatic accessible shoreline, comfort, and vintage charm.

Great cabin, cozy and comfortable with wonderful views of Lake Superior and a unique bedrock view with waves crashing. We had a relaxing and peaceful stay.
We had another great stay at Fish Hook Cove! Tucked away for privacy and great views of the lake, we enjoyed relaxing on the deck with campfires in the evening. And, the fireplace inside was perfect for reading and warming up on chilly nights. Bonus was seeing northern lights on multiple nights from the deck and even better down on the shore!
5 stars all around!! the view is breathtaking and the cabin was so clean, quaint and adorable. Highly recommend. Linda was responsive and very helpful.
We had an amazing week! The cabin had such a great feel—couldn’t have asked for more. We spent hours on the deck looking out over the lake. It was just so serene. We love the area and look forward to our next trip back to Grand Marais!
We loved staying at this little gem on the rocky shores of Lake Superior. The view was fabulous and the cabin cozy. We had everything we could want and hope to come again next year.
This was the perfect Superior lake shore property for our family. Cool rocky shoreline, large deck, charming and functional interior, and a short trip to Grand Marais. We definitely plan to return.
From the stunning location to the ease of access to a variety of destinations, Fish Hook Cove was absolutely perfect. The property was exceptionally clean, furnished with every essential, and the views, as shown in the pictures, are breathtaking.
Looking for fishing? Try Pike or Caribou Lakes. Solitude? Stay on the property. Hiking? The trails are countless and range from easy to moderately difficult (we enjoyed Lookout Mountain and some others near Taconite Harbor).
Lutsen tends to be a little bit pricey for us, so we did our "touristy" trips into Grand Marais. If you want to experience a FANTASTIC "Hole in the Wall" bar, Up Yonder is the place for you. Keep in mind that World's Best Donuts is CLOSED on Tuesdays and Wednesday, so plan accordingly. Hungry Hippie Tacos, on the other hand, is open every day of the week.
We try to do one "big" vacation trip each year as a family (all adults, now), and this was one of our all time favorites.
This was our second visit and we plan to stay next year, as well. We love the uniqueness of the cabin decor, the fabulous view, the attention to every detail. I can't complain about a thing! Wonderful!
I just asked my wife what she’d like to say. Her comment was, “there wasn’t anything about it that wasn’t perfect. We arrived our first night with the idea of settling in and then heading out and about. Luckily, we’d gotten smoked fish, veggies, cheese, crackers on our way there, since neither of us wanted to leave! Finally ventured out, but couldn’t wait to get back to our spot. Much needed get away and couldn’t have enjoyed Fish Hook Cove more.
The house was clean, the area quiet and safe. Wonderful view of Lake Superior. The downside, during our stay the temperatures into the night were warm. The house did have fans, and the bedroom fans did move air, but they were noisy so it was difficult to sleep. This house would be a better cool weather property. The other thing, it was advertised as bring your ROKU for hook-up but there was no screen to show our programs. We wanted to enjoy our time with some entertainment, not totally disconnect.
I love the “classy rustic” feel of this cabin. Artistic touches and well chosen antiques make it charming.
We enjoyed many hours on the deck with a beautiful view of the waves and sparkling water, bordered by pine trees. The kitchen was well supplied and we brought charcoal for the grill. One of my favorite things was napping on the very comfortable couch listening to the waves crashing on the shore through the open windows.
The queen bed was comfortable, but hard for me to get on. (My six foot tall husband had no issues) We eventually found a footstool tucked under one of the twin beds in the other room and that helped immensely!
Fish Hook Cove is a delightful place to stay! When some of our checkin information didn’t come through for some reason on our email we contacted Linda and she called us with a minute or two and made sure we got the info we needed.
All four of us felt blessed by our stay and highly recommend it!
This property is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in.This cabin has been updated with all the modern conveniences and still has that north shore charm. Large deck with furniture for lounging and eating. Grounds are well cared for and easy access to the stunning ledge rocks. Beds, linens, dishes, kitchen items all high quality.
Great location near Lutsen and Grand Marais. We can will definitely be back!
We stayed over the weekend and lucked out with fantastic weather. Honestly, even had the weather not cooperated Fish Hook was a wonderful place to relax and unwind with family (cooking, reading games, cards, etc). Fantastic lakeside location - loved path down to the lake. Great location between Lutsen, Grand Marais, Cascade River/State Park and more. The cabin itself was wonderful - so tastefully done, private and quiet. We’ll b back!
We've stayed at a lot of places along the north shore, and this one absolutely takes the cake. Best blend of old and new: super cozy, smells like wood and smoke (in the best possible way), authentic original details that make it feel like a very special place, but also a fantastic fancy shower, great kitchen, nice windows and doors, high-end fixtures and furniture. The views out the window, the sound of the waves, the huge deck over the cliff, the fairy tale bridge over the cove down to the rocks...our kids would've left all their friends behind and stayed there in a second. Can't wait to get back.
My family and I enjoyed a long weekend at Fish Hook Cove and it was awesome! The cabin has everything you need to enjoy a nice quiet, cozy break from the busyness of life. The views of Lake Superior were gorgeous and we enjoyed walking down to the shoreline and climbing all over the rocks. The cabin was very clean and neat, beds were very comfortable, kitchen had what we needed, and the deck was beautiful. We had great communication with Linda, and check in and out was very smooth. We will definitely be back!

Why they chose this property
Who doesn't appreciate a historic property respectfully and thoughtfully being brought back to modern day life. It still maintains the charms of the era it was built yet you'll be able to enjoy the luxuries that we've become used to and spoiled by. Feel free to stay connected or unplug and simply relax to the comforts that the outdoors, woods and water has to offer. Please note that there is not a TV here...all the more reason to consider disconnecting from some technology while staying!
What makes this property unique
Private, quiet and extremely unique in the shoreline itself. The bridge and the cove are very uncommon and highly prized! The thought that went into the design, the amenities and the smallest of details is outstanding.
