The Space:
THE HOME
The interior of Loon Lodge on Lake Superior leaves nothing to the imagination as to where you are; on the north shore of Lake Superior. Nearly 2,700 square feet of living space on 3 levels is adorned with hand-made log furniture and other creature comforts only a newer home can bring.
Gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops, two gas fireplaces, upper and lower TV areas with satellite TV/DVD/VCR (and movie library) as well as a game area allow large groups to each have their own space or couples have plenty of room to roam.
SLEEPING
All 4 bedrooms have a dedicated bath and the owner's suite has a two person 'Jacuzzi' whirlpool that overlooks the lake for romantic evenings or soothing sore muscles after an invigorating day of skiing, biking or hiking.
Guest Access:
All guests will have access to all living areas, the garage and common area of the association (including 600' of Lake Superior lakeshore). We do, however, limit access to bedrooms and bathrooms for smaller groups. This allows us to keep cleaning fees down, which we pass onto you.
If your group is:
-3 or less you'll have 2 bedrooms/baths open (owner's suite upstairs and main floor).
-4-5 you'll have 3 bedrooms/baths open (owner's suite, main floor and chose between the upper level bed/bath or lower level bed/bath.
-Groups of 6 - 8 automatically have all 4 bedrooms/baths open.
If you'd like to open up an extra bed/bath that is not automatically included with your group size, you can pay a one-time cleaning fee of $75 + tax for each bed/bath combination. This is a one-time fee not a nightly fee.
The Neighborhood:
Loon Lodge on Lake Superior is located in the heart of the Lutsen/Tofte area. The Gitchi Gami bike trail is accessible from our driveway and the Onion River Road with access to hiking, mountain bike, cross country ski, snow shoe and snowmobile trails is less than 1 mile from the home.
We have 600' of Lake Superior pebble beach accessible by a staircase in the northeast corner of the property. There are multiple locations for a campfire too!
Getting Around:
We have parking in our garage for 1 car. Another car can park in front of the garage. Overflow parking is available on the upper driveway. The home was very nice and well prepared with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Great views and plenty of space for our group of 8. Our host provided very clear and timely communication and everything was well marked to make things easy. We had a great time-thank you!
This is an excellent place to stay and relax after a day hiking or otherwise visiting the area. The location is very central to things to do both north and south on 61. Nothing is overlooked in terms of what is supplied. Highly recommend staying here.
Wonderful place to stay! It’s super clean and spacious. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The location was perfect for visiting attractions all along the north shore. It was very quiet, and it was great to be right on Lake Superior.
The views of Lake Superior were spectacular and we spent many hours sitting on the balcony enjoying nature's beauty. The accommodations worked perfect for us and we appreciated all the amenities. Also enjoyed being so close to many state parks and points of interest. Hope to be back again soon.
We had a group of 6 plus a toddler stay here for several days and we could not be happier with our stay. The place is clean. The kitchen is well outfitted for cooking. Beach access is a major plus. Incredible view right on the shore of Lake Superior.
A perfect place for a three generation family to make memories. A beautiful view of Lake Superior, plenty of space, and convenient to Lutsen and Grand Marais.
This was a wonderful property - so comfortable and relaxing with an incredible view. The hosts were excellent. We have spent a lot of time on the North Shore and this location is a new favorite.
We all agreed the pictures didn’t do it justice. It was a perfect spot for a family gathering. Great location and more than enough space for 6 adults and 2 kids.
My family (3 kids, grandma, 2 adults) and I loved the house! It was spacious and well equipped! The beds were extremely comfortable! The view was perfect! Rick was always quick to respond!

About the host
Hosted by Rick Storlie
Hello! My name is Rick Storlie. I have 6 kids- Everlee, Gracelyn, Ali, Lauren, Mason & Breanna. I live in Prior Lake, MN with my wife Rachel and I'm originally from Northfield.
Why they chose this property
My family has been vacationing on the north shore since 1975. My father owned a Lutsen Sea Villa (which is coincidentally less than a mile from our cabin now) until 1995. I learned to ski, deer/grouse hunt and skip rocks on the north shore. We've swam in the lake (be careful it's cold), water skied (on a dare), fished and enjoyed bathtub like water (once) along with 20+ foot waves.
The view of the lake from our home is second to none. We're elevated above the trees so you get an unobstructed view 90 miles view towards Michigan- it feels like you're on the ocean! One of the neatest things to do is sleep with the windows open and hear the waves crashing on the rocks below.
The combination of Lake Superior and the Superior National forest has an indescribable calming effect on your soul. All I can say is- a trip to the north shore is guaranteed to recharge your batteries!
What makes this property unique
No matter what the season there are things to do on the North Shore.
SUMMER Try the Alpine slide located at Lutsen Mountains. The Gitchi Gami bike trail now has been extended so you can access it in front of our home. You can hop on and bike the north shore for miles.
Find Lake Superior fishing charters in Tofte and Grand Marais along with inland fishing lakes too.
The Superior Hiking Trail is only a couple of miles from our home. I recommend the Oberg and LeVeaux loop- fantastic overlooks! Golfers will love Superior National and its 27 holes. Yes it's challenging but the views of Lake Superior and Moose Mountain will help you forget how many balls you've lost!
Like to shop? Quaint shops are located right on the harbor in Grand Marais. Only 20 minutes away.
WINTER Lutsen Mountains has the best downhill skiing in the Midwest. There are hundreds of miles of cross country, snow shoe and snowmobile trails accessible within 5 minutes. The clubhouse at Superior National turns into a winter recreation activity center. You can go on horse drawn sleigh rides and take dog mushing tours- just stop by.
SPRING Spring time hikes along raging streams in the spring will give you countless photo opportunities. Perhaps the best spring activity is hanging our at our home with a good book. Cook some great food and take advantage of quiet time on the North Shore. Rates are lower too!
FALL The fall colors in the Maple forests are second to none. Fall is still my favorite time to visit the north shore. I think the two things we may love the most are fires on the lake shore and coffee on the deck overlooking the lake. If you're an early riser you can see the sun come right out of the water!
