About this property
Montrose Pet Friendly Historical Beach House.
Montrose is private family holiday home with loads of outdoor lawn and growing areas. The tennis court is a delight for all ages with a great surface for children on wheels (adults can watch from the deck) or bigger kids tennis tournaments.
The house sits on a terrace between both Warrington Beach (white sand and generally safe swimming) and Blueskin Bay, a gorgeous tidal inlet with cockles and small crabs that live under rocks.
The bottom gate opens onto the domain where there is a lovely children's park. In summer and some holidays a domain shop offers ice blocks, coffee and surf school with wetsuits for hire.
Fifty meters to the white sand beach...One hundred and fifty meters to Blueskin Bay. The perfect setting for you to unwind, relax, explore and enjoy your escape.
The house was built in 1927... remodelled and extended in the late 1970's...refurbished in the 1990's. Kauri timber used in its interior, was salvaged and floated over to Warrington in 1927 from a prison, once located at Taiaroa Head.
Outside areas of the property are large and diverse with spaces for growing, exploring and relaxing. It is by enlarge very private and within it creates its own piece of paradise. A completely enclosed, north facing, sun drenched porch with immediate garden, lawn and tennis court views provides a sheltered area to enjoy.
The lounge has a big fireplace/wetback and a heatpump...a TV with freeview and a dvd player. There is an hdmi chord ( TV to laptop). There is a second TV is available that can be used for a gaming/screen in the bottom bedroom.
The house has a library of books covering subjects like gardens, literary novels, war, politics, art, children's stories etc
A lovely Sun Room with views and privacy adjoins the deck and the lounge. The kitchen dining has a lovely open plan design with garden views and good bench space. A pantry stocks necessary basics including coffee, tea, cooking essentials, sauce, spices etc Large windows give garden and beach views.
Wildlife opportunities and activities close by include visiting the Orokanui Eco sanctuary (12 minutes by car) for day walks/ tours. This sanctuary is now home to many native species including Kiwi, Kaka, Takahe with many species relocated or introduced with a view to preservation or breeding. There are amazing walks and activities.
Lovely coastal drives with spectacular views to can be taken to visit beautiful small towns close by like Seacliff, Karitane or Moeraki just along the coast road.
A Boutique Brewery called Arc (with easy food options) is lovely visit at Evansdale. Neighbouring Waitati only six kilometers away has a shop and there is an interesting Community Market on the 1st Sunday of the Month 11am.
Wonderful rockpools can be viewed at low tide on the Beach and are great for exploring. There are small rock crabs great for young children to investigate around Blueskin Bay. Cockle gathering or just paddling in the bay is also popular.
The house is spacious, private unique and quiet. It has a wonderful historical character with many time period furnishings and curios. There are large areas and varied spaces for the whole family to relax and enjoy. Warrington is a small community with friendly people and a quaint appeal.
Montrose is ready for you to just walk in. Beds and bedding are excellent quality, made up with fresh linen and have electric blankets. There are heaters in the bedrooms and some hot water bottles.
The main bathroom has a toilet, bath and separate tiled shower a big mirror a heater and electrical outlets for shaving/hairdrier etc.
There is also another small wc with a toilet/ lit mirror and hand basin at the other end of the house next to the bottom and upstairs bedrooms.
If you are unstable on your feet at night we advise you to sleep on the ground floor to avoid stairs. The bathrooms are equipped with basic amenities like toilet paper, soap, shampoo, conditioner, towels etc
Throughout the house are period furnishings and lighting. It has been in our family for many years and many objects tell a tale. The is an extensive book library covering subjects such as gardening, poetry, war, politics, art and also a section for children.
