About this property
Quail Cottage - Quaint, Cosy, Peaceful and Private
The cottage is close to Coromandel's arts scene, restaurants, pubs, craft shops, local attractions and coastal views. You’ll love my cosy Coromandel accommodation as the space surrounding the freestanding, old-fashioned rustic cottage affords total privacy in a beautiful orchard garden displaying a lovely rural ambiance as it backs onto bush-clad farmland. There's also a free carport for a car/boat and it's only 1 km from the town centre and areas boat ramps. My homely retreat is ideal for couples, cyclists, solo travellers, hikers, fishermen or anyone celebrating a special anniversary.
The secluded 140-year-old two room Gold Prospector's cabin-type cottage is completely separate from the host's main house, and is screened off with olive bushes and trees. Outside the cottage you'll find a small porch with some seating and an outdoor picnic table with views into the orchard, making it a great place to view the regions bird life whilst enjoying your evening meal.
The property features a wide driveway access to the cottage and the lower part of the private garden and orchard making it the ideal base to explore this beautiful upper region of the Coromandel Peninsular.

Lovely cottage with simple living at its best. Shane was a great host.
Shane looked after us really well. We had a great stay. The cottage had the essentials and was exactly as described . Close to historical Coromandel Town and tucked away in a lovely secluded well maintained garden. We would definitely recommend to others.
The cottage was beautiful with so much character, books and games, and lovely options for outdoor chill areas. We spent about half our trip relaxing at the cottage as it was so homey and welcoming. Shane was inviting and as a travel magazine author had great recommendations for the very quiet town. 10/10 hope to be back.
My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at Shane's cottage! Everything about the accomodation oozes charm, and the whole stay was in line with that, even the outdoor bathroom and kitchen! Shane was exrtemely helpful and seemed eager to help us enjoy our time to the fullest while not overinvolving himself. Big recommendation!

Hi Mitre, It was great having bouth yourself and Wouter stay at Quail Cottage.
Quirky quaint cottage, small but well provisioned. Outdoor bathroom was fine for us but would be pretty brisk in cold or wet weather. Pleasant and accommodating host. Private and close to everything.
Just lovely... A quiet and unique little spot, perfect for a romantic getaway that still provides incredibly close access to the beautiful Coromandel town, all the while maintaining its rural charm.Shane was a very pleasant host and went out of his way to explain where everything was, as a safety conscious professional I was pleased to see ready access to first aid and fire safety devices, a thing oft forgotten. We were provided with some delicious freshly squeezed orange juice from one of Shane's many fruit trees which quickly became an afternoon mimosa (yum). A wealth of knowledge on the local area (and beyond), even to the point of providing his own very concise guidebook and review of local attractions which we quickly put to use.The facilities are as you would expect for a lightly renovated 100 year old mining cottage, which suited us just fine, personally I'm quite the fan of outdoor showers. My only criticism is that the bed and couch could do with an upgrade.Overall we'd happily stay again and maybe then I can finally befriend the cat.- James & Jen
We enjoyed the setting, the host was pleasant and this is a good basic facility. Shane graciously committed to addressing issues we raised with faulty items. The property description needs a lot of work to accurately reflect what is provided. While the bathroom facilities are noted to be separate there is nothing to indicate they are open-air & camp-like. The property has great potential & could really capitalise on its uniqueness with a bit of work / sympathetic decor. Pleasant overall.

I would read all the other reviews of Quail Cottage as it averages a 4.8 out of 5 point rating, but everybody has their opinions.
I liked the cottage it was cute and comfortable. There was very limited wifi and I did not enjoy having to go outside to the outdoor seating to get wifi.
I wasn’t aware the toilet and shower were outside. I wasn’t too happy about that. Overall it was a comfortable stay. Best sleep had in all holidays awww bed and pillows were awesome 👏
Shane was a great host and made sure we had beautiful flowers in our room upon arrival.
Excellent stay for a single or couple. Very quiet semi rural, private at back of property. Only a few minutes to town and great restaurants. Main cottage perfectly adequate. Detached toilet and shower is fun and ok but might not suit the more sensitive or private person.
Neat little cottage nestled amongst the trees. Stayed in Autumn so did feel the cold!! Would be fabulous in the summertime however, had a lovely time and the host was very accommodating.
Superb, relaxing getaway in cute historic cottage. Thank you for being a wonderfully welcoming host Shane.

Lovely setting
A lovely quirky historic cottage in a quiet semi-rural setting, a short pedal bike ride from the main township, that ideally suited my needs for a quiet relaxing holiday. Shane is a good host, respectful of one's privacy. There were however a few surprises like the electrics - you can only have one appliance working at a time (rather worrying), the door that has open air to all the elements and the outdoor toilet and bathroom, which is lovely on sunny days, but not so much on wet. The old camper in me was fine with it, I just would have liked to have been aware prior to making my booking. Regardless, I had a lovely stay and enjoyed exploring the area.
A great getaway. Lots to read and be in a quiet and peaceful location especially on a long weekend.
Thanks for having us Shane.
A quirky and well thought out cottage too.
Cheers

Thoughtfully appointed antique miner's cottage set in a restful garden and orchard. Shane was a great host. Tidy shower and toilet 10 steps from cottage. We enjoyed our stay.
Charming heritage cottage set in peaceful orchard not far from town. Host is very hospitable and helpful. A slight drawback for us was the outside bathroom and toilet, as I have difficulty walking at the moment. Otherwise, very pleasant.
After 2 weeks of touring about the North Island I can say without hesitation that Shane’s bach is easily the most pleasant. Start with Shane; welcoming, engaging, knolwdagee, the perfect host. The grounds are simply wonderful, full of life. And the Bach itself is a quaint and comfortable place to stay. Really cannot recommend it more sincerely.
The cabin was lovely and well furnished. The location was fantastic being a very short drive to Coromandel town. Shane was very hospitable and welcoming. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
