Escape to The Boat Shed, a charming house perfectly situated on the north-facing side of Acacia Road, offering stunning views of Lake Okareka and Mt. Tarawera. Ideal for couples and small families, this getaway boasts easy lake access, a deck for morning coffee, and proximity to Redwoods mountain biking, fishing, and Maori cultural experiences. Enjoy the morning sun and create lasting memories in this tranquil setting.



The Space:

The Boatshed apartment offers a unique multi-level living experience. The ground floor features a convenient kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchenette is equipped with a fridge/freezer, microwave, bench-top oven, single induction cooktop, and kitchen sink, along with essential cutlery and crockery. Moving to the second floor, you'll find a comfortable lounge area complete with a Smart TV and a Queen bed. The bed can be separated from the lounge area with a pull-down privacy screen, offering flexibility and space. The third floor boasts a second Queen bed in the A-frame loft area. Please note that due to the A-frame design, this bedroom has reduced headroom on one side. A sliding wooden screen shutter provides privacy and separates the mezzanine upper level from the second floor.



Guest Access:

During your stay, you'll have exclusive access to the entire apartment. Please note that the driveway and parking area are shared with the main house.

Lake Okareka is a lovely quiet lakeside neighbourhood. It's just a short drive from town and just 5min to The Redwoods Forest

The property is 10min drive into the city, we recommend having your own vehicle when staying here.

Very cool location with beautiful lake views from both sides.Small kitchen and bathroom downstairs. Quite cold in that downstairs area as although there was an excellent heatpump all the heat went upwards and there are no window coverings in the entry. Beautifully warm in the upstairs lounge, bedroom and loft bedroom. Had all we needed for a comfortable stay.We stayed as a family of four. Note the loft bed is right above the other bed and it did sound like the kids were right next to us when they were whispering during the night. Easily solved with earplugs, but something to be aware of.Would stay here again.

Wonderful stay! We’d come again. The property was clean with beautiful views and Susan was great to work with as she provided us with flexibility when the fire broke out in Tongariro. The two rooms are open rooms with minimal privacy which was fine for us, but may be uncomfortable for others if traveling with couples!

Pros:* Peaceful, quiet and relaxing environment* Clean & tidy* Felt very safe* Amazing view of the lake* Being able to listen to nature/birds* Very private with almost no traffic and very few people* Lovely country feel* Only 15 minutes away from town centre* A 5.5km walking track around the lake* Lake access only a 2 minute walk away* Good heatpump/air conCons:* Although there was clearly a garage in the photos, there was no access which was not mentioned, making storage of four mountain bikes difficult* No washing machine/dryer so had to take all laundry home or drive approximately 15 minutes to town for laundry services* Not the best kitchen facilities for a family. No oven, microwave wasn't working and could really do with an upgrade and only 1 hotplate for cooking. Toaster and kettle could do with an update too and some of the utensils.* Two queen beds not ideal if you have two older children who cannot share a bed. We used an airbed for our youngest child which we prepared for* Three sets of stairs, so not suitable for people who struggle with stairs Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend. The cons are mainly easy fixes, but worth thinking about when staying as a family.
