About this property
Updated Classic Cottage, Neighborhood Beach Access, Bay and Ocean Views!
Whale’s Cove - Meredith Lodging
Perched on a bluff near Alsea Bay, Whale’s Cove is an adorable, classic sea cottage in a quiet neighborhood that looks out over the estuary and the water. With ocean views from many rooms, a rustic river-rock fireplace, and a sweet wood-lined interior, this vintage cottage also sports some wonderful updates, including a new kitchen and remodeled bathrooms. Two red sofas invite conversation in the living room, where large windows bring in lots of ocean light. Another sofa faces the electric fireplace for fire-gazing on chilly nights. A trestle dining table in the kitchen and an extendable Gateleg table in the living room make eating in a pleasure. A queen bedroom on the main level has its own TV. Upstairs is a small bonus room with a futon sofa, recliner and TV, plus a second bedroom tucked up under the eaves with a queen and twin bed, making this a great home to share with extra friends or family.
You’ll find a wealth of activities in this corner of the coast. Six stunning miles of flat, sandy beach stretch south from Alsea Bay to the outskirts of Yachats—perfect for playing fetch with your dog or enjoying peaceful walks along the Pacific. Head down the hill to Waldport for essentials and a bite to eat, or take a short drive north to enjoy Newport’s bustling bayfront, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and a plethora of other tourist attractions. There’s more to explore to the south, including charming Yachats, Cape Perpetua, Heceta Head Lighthouse, and the sand dunes of Florence. You’ll love returning in the evening to your sweet sea cottage to watch the sun set over the ocean from your new vantage on the coast!

Lovely inside the property, rooms nicely furnished, and a great kitchen. I would suggest a screen on the downstairs bedroom window, after all, people come to the coast to smell the sea and feel the ocean breezes. Also, wish there had been direct beach access nearby. We spoke to the neighbor who described a path to get down to the beach, so perhaps you could leave a map for guests as it sounded a little complicated.
Adorable cottage by the beach that we were able to take our dogs to. Kitchen amenities were fantastic, and plenty of hang out room on three sofas. Bathrooms were updated and well stocked. The only issue we had was that there were a few things skipped with house cleaning that we passed on to the property manager, who was quick to respond. The only missing amenity that we didn't expect was that there was no coffee provided for our stay, so be sure to bring your own. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm so glad the kitchen setup and ample seating suited your group and that the updated bathrooms were a highlight. I’m sorry some cleaning items were missed during your stay — we’ve passed your notes to our housekeeping team and they will be making meaningful process improvements to prevent this from happening again. We appreciate the feedback and would welcome you back any time.
The house was amazing, it had plenty of seating and room for everyone to be. It didn’t have amazing views of the ocean but you could see it from the living room window and upstairs window. The washer was broken and that did suck a little with sandy and wet cloths to take home. It is a pet friendly place and the dogs were happy! I liked the bay window we put our blankets on it and the dogs spent hours watching out the window. There is beach access right across the way but it is a very steep slope.. but if you walk down the road there is an easy staircase that leads to the beach also. The hilltop cafe was nice to eat at.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm so glad your whole group could relax in the living spaces and that the dogs enjoyed the bay window. I’m sorry the washer was out of order and for the inconvenience that caused you. Our maintenance team is working hard on their replacement which should be completed soon. Thank you for the feedback and we hope you'll consider staying with us again.
A cute little house with lots of charm! It’s easy to walk down to the bay and see the ocean and take it the sea breeze! That being said, I received a notice that the laundry may or may not be available during our stay about a week ahead of time. As it was advertised to have a laundry we were hopeful it would be fixed. However, it wasn’t. We were traveling with a 3yo, 4 adults and 2 dogs and doing sandy, sticky beach fun! So a laundry would have really been nice. We also could not park our big truck with an extended cab and an 8ft bed in the front of the house with our friend’s Honda Passport, just an FYI if you’re traveling in a bigger vehicle. I think the only other thing we would have changed would have been having the large TV in the main living room instead of the main floor bedroom. Oh, and funny thing in the kitchen is the hidden drawers inside of other drawers! Lol Very clever but not so easy to find when you are tired from traveling!
Hi Tim! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will book with us again!

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in, communication
Fantastic property with poor communication and one quibble (no neighborhood beach access). On arrival (7 pm Monday), the code we were provided didn't work. We spent more than an hour texting and calling every number we could find, with no response. We finally gave up and booked a hotel room so our kid could get to bed only an hour and a half late. The new code worked the next morning, and they did reimburse us for the hotel stay, though it was less than the cost of the night at the property. The stairs to the beach that start maybe 50 feet from the property are no longer safe to use, presumably due to a storm. The next-nearest beaches are more than half a mile and involve at least a little walking along the Pacific Coast Highway if you don't want to drive. The cabin itself is absolutely fantastic, though. It's a shame the management company doesn't have proper after-hours on-call set up. When we looked into the property company, this is far from the only time people have had problems with communication, including in one case a full week without a response involving a frustrating but non-emergency issue.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I’m very sorry about the entry-code failure and the long delay in reaching our team after hours. After reviewing this incident we serviced the lock system and adjusted our after‑hours procedures and staffing to significantly improve reliability.
We are careful to not state on the listing that there is beach access in the neighborhood, since it is no longer safe to use. We do include a note in the guest portal about the beach access being about 1/2 mile away, but will work to make that clearer for future guests.
Thank you for sharing both the compliments and the concerns — your feedback helps us improve. We hope you’ll consider staying with us again.
