The Neighborhood:
Located in a quiet pocket of Wentworth Falls.
Getting Around:
Walks, shopping and nice things
In the living room there are brochures for walks in Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba. The Charles Darwin Walk has just reopened its first two thirds as part of the new Great Cliff Top Walk. We also love the Wentworth Falls walks (busy but beautiful - we recommend heading to Princes Rock lookout which is quieter with great views. The Undercliff Track, which you can access from the Princes Rock lookout, is also beautiful, with stepping stones, lovely views, and fewer steps than other mountains paths). In Lawson, the Waterfall Circuit is a beautiful 2-hour walk with multiple waterfalls on the way - rough in parts but not very difficult. The waterfall circuit is dog-friendly but often very muddy. In Leura, the Pool of Siloam walk is not too busy and is beautiful – head towards a gully and waterfall with a view on the way.
For food in Wentworth Falls, we like fed Blue Mountains, and Love Bites cafe does great breakfasts and coffee. La Famiglia is decent for Italian takeaway (we sometimes pick up a pizza on our way up to the house), they also deliver. The Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls has wonderful views and good food and coffee for breakfast and lunch. The best pizza nearby is a little further away, or a good stop on the way, at Napoli Corner in Lawson. The Grand View Hotel in Wentworth Falls pub has good food and is kid-friendly with a small toy room. There’s amazing bread and pastries at Black Cockatoo in Lawson and Katoomba.
There are lots of lovely gardens nearby, especially in Spring and Autumn. Everglades in Leura is owned by the National Trust and has beautiful gardens; it is open Thursday to Monday and also offers Devonshire teas on weekends. The Rhododendron Gardens in Blackheath are open daily.
A little further afield, the Megalong Valley has a lovely rustic tea room with lots of outside seating in a beautiful setting (open daily) and a winery, cellar door and delicious platters at Dry Ridge Estate winery (open weekends).
There is a general store in Wentworth Falls which has basics and a fancy grocer. The closest nearby supermarket is Woolworths in Leura which is about ten minutes’ drive. There’s an excellent fruit and vegetable shop in Katoomba called Todarello’s, which also delivers. Katoomba has a bigger range of shops including Bunnings, Aldi and Big W.
Leura has a range of nice (touristy) shops, including a lovely bookshop, Megalong Books. Wentworth Falls also has a beautiful bookshop for kids and adults, the Good Earth Bookshop, which is mostly curated second-hand books and also has craft activities for kids. For op shoppers, our favourite is the Cancer Wellness Support Katoomba Op Shop at 27 Whitton Street, Katoomba.
If the weather is good enough, Lawson has a very nice outdoor heated pool settled amongst the bush, and there are also water holes for swimming at the ends of walks, including the Pool of Siloam (more for paddling than swimming) and Minihaha Falls (small but deeper).
