Calf Cottage: bike tracks, wineries & relax in rural location. Napier 15 mins
Welcome to Calf Cottage. This is the smaller cottage of The Cow & Calf Cottages. Cow Cottage sleeps 3 and is also available to book.
Calf Cottage has everything you will need whilst away from home. You will enjoy your own shower room and toilet, single bed, Smart TV, heat pump, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge.
You have your own decking to relax on, so you can sip your glass of local wine or enjoy your cup of coffee whilst taking in the lake and hills opposite. There is a (shared) outside area with a shared picnic bench for dining at. We are by Puketapu Road and have free off-road parking. Both cottages are in a fully fenced area away from the main house.(and our 2 staffy dogs, although you are welcome to spend some time with them if you like...they'd love it!).
We are situated right by the Puketapu Cycle track which is part of the Hawkes Bay Trails. So, if you're here to cycle, you can set off straight from your cottage. We have secure storage for bikes (please arrange your own insurance though).
Being just 15 minutes' drive from Napier, Napier airport and Hastings, you really can experience the best of both worlds: the busyness of the CBD and then just a short drive back to your cottage and rural calm.
We are situated only 1 min drive to Shed 530 Bistro & Winery one of the many fantastic wineries in the region & the Puketapu Pub & dairy are within walking distance too. The river is 5 mins walk away, great to cool off in the summer.
The views are incredible ... just look at the photos. There is very little light pollution, and we can sometimes see the Milky Way at night.
Whether you're here to cycle the tracks, explore the wineries and local beaches, go Art Deco or simply relax, we are brilliantly positioned for you. We are a great resting spot if you are away on business too!

We have lived in Puketapu for over 13 years and love it here. We enjoy spending time at home, trying to grow fruit and vegetables, going for bike rides and walks on the cycle/walking track by our house. We have 2 dogs, Cassie and Mabel, who love to bask in the sun, play in the river and eat any windfall fruit! You are welcome to come and see our dogs if you are a dog lover. Nicky's passion is Dragon Boating and Jasen is into scooters. We love being able to share our beautiful place with visitors, so you can also enjoy rural Napier, without being far from town!
Why they chose this property
The weather is great, the scenery from our property is fantastic and we are so well positioned being near both Napier and Hastings. We are a hop, skip and a jump away from our local bistro/winery Shed 530, and the Puketapu Pub is just down the road... both a minute away in the car if that. The river is a few minutes' walk away, and we like to cool off in it during the summer. We love it here.
What makes this property unique
The Calf Cottage is a fantastic place to stop for a break. As well as being a great little space inside, our position is what makes us special. We are directly opposite a lake where you could see swans, ducks and myriad other birdlife. Sheep graze all around the lake which has a backdrop of beautiful hills and trees...the colours are stunning in the autumn. We walk out onto the cycle/walking track from our house where you can cycle into Taradale and even Marine Parade in Napier and beyond.
It is peaceful with hardly any light pollution and we sometimes see the Milky Way.
All this, and only 3 minutes' drive to Taradale, 10 minutes to Napier and 15 to Hastings.
