Welcome to our spacious harbourside getaway with plentiful character and stunning harbour views.
This is an easy, comfortable place to settle in, breathe out, and watch the light change with a TV-free living room. Don’t worry — the tele is still here, just enjoying its own cosy space downstairs in the media room.
Enjoy the views from the deck, step out the front door to wander the waterfront and explore what beautiful Northland has to offer nearby.
The space Set high on the hill, this classic two-level 1960s home enjoys sweeping views over the harbour channel, where you can watch all sorts of boating and aviation traffic come and go throughout the day — and yes, the sunsets are pretty special too.
Upstairs, the spacious lounge is designed to make the most of the view and is a lovely place to relax, unwind, and watch the light change over the water. This level also includes a queen bedroom, a twin bedroom, the main bathroom, and a practical galley-style kitchen.
There is also a Warmington fireplace in the lounge for those cooler winter nights, should you choose — because a glass of wine around the heat pump is not quite the same, right?
Downstairs, you’ll find the master bedroom with its own ensuite, a separate toilet along with a small media room, laundry, and carport.
With the waterfront just a two-minute stroll away, this is a comfortable and welcoming home with plenty of character, ideal for guests wanting a peaceful stay with a constantly changing harbour outlook.
Location is 10 minutes from Whangarei CBD and 20 minutes drive from the beautiful Whangarei Heads area - including the challenging Mount Manaia climb, the wild beauty of Ocean Beach and the wonderfully scenic McLeod Bay. There is a small group of Onerahi shops including a New World supermarket 5 mins drive from the property.
This property is Ideal for guests wanting a quiet, relaxed stay with stunning harbour views and easy access to the waterfront.
“Perched high on the hill and close to the airport, I jokingly call it ‘The Castle’ — a reference many Australians, and plenty of Kiwi film lovers too, will appreciate. With a view like this, you may feel you’re dreamin’.
Guest access Guests have access to the full house, with the exception of the locked office at the end of the upstairs corridor and any locked storage cupboards downstairs.
Please note the property is not suitable for young children or pets, as there is no fencing at the front of the house.
As the home is set on a hill, parking can be a little tight, but there are three off-street parks available, and possibly a fourth at a squeeze. There are two tandem parks on one side of the house, with a carport on the other.
Other things to note As noted, the property is not suitable for young children or pets due to the lack of fencing and the stairs.
The home is located beside the airport, so there will be planes coming and going from time to time. It is a relatively small airport and outside of that occasional activity, the area is wonderfully quiet.
The current hot water system is fairly compact, so if it is used heavily all at once, it may run out. The upside is that it reheats quickly, and with staggered shower times, most guests should find it works perfectly well. We are also planning to replace the system shortly.
At the bottom of the road, you’ll find a few steps leading down to the waterfront. Across the road at Grannys Bay, there are also steps into the water, and it is a popular swimming spot, particularly around mid to high tide.
Kayaks are available for guest use, along with life jackets and a trolley to help get them to the water. As the main boat ramp is a bit of a walk, Grannys Bay is usually the easier launch option, although the rocky edge can make access a little more awkward.
An open fireplace is available, with firewood stored in the carport. For safety reasons, we ask that it is only used by guests who are familiar with operating an open fire. Otherwise, the heat pump does a great job!
Peter (your host) is a local tour guide around Auckland and Northland so will happily provide tips or suggestions upon request.
