About this property
Little House on the Lake in the Forest
*In summer months we require a minimum stay of 7 nights, Saturday to Saturday.* Wake up to the call of loons from this tiny and cozy lakefront cabin. Nestled at the remote base of Mt. Kearsarge, with unobstructed views of Ragged Mountain, this location affords year-round adventure on the protected south shore of Bradley Lake. Five minutes from Proctor Academy, 90 minutes from Boston. This retreat mixes ample amenities and high-speed internet with outdoor adventure!
In the warmer seasons enjoy easy access to hiking at nearby Mt. Kearsarge and Winslow State Parks, a 58-mile long rail trail for running or biking, swimming on the far end of Bradley Lake, Mountain Biking at Highland Mountain Bike Park, and golfing at Kearsarge Valley Golf Course. Canoe out into the lake (canoe and life jackets provided), or fish for smallmouth bass, pickerel, and perch. Spend evenings catching fireflies and roasting marshmallows around the fire pit. Swimming is not allowed directly at the cabin, as per town regulations. There is a public beach less than a mile from the cabin. The second (and best) place to swim is the 'swimming island' in the middle of the lake which you can access by canoe (in under 5 minutes).
In the winter enjoy downhill skiing at Mt Sunapee & Ragged Mountain, ice fishing, as well as backcountry (XC) skiing & snowshoeing on the Proctor Academy trails, part of the Sunapee Ragged Kearsarge Greenway. Spend evenings cozied up by the wood stove with a glass of wine or cup of tea.
The entire cabin was recently renovated with hickory cabinetry and flooring, stainless steel appliances, and rustic, mid-century modern decor.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the basics: refrigerator and freezer, oven, stove, toaster, French press for coffee, water kettle, blender, pots and pans, cooking and eating utensils.
The cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed on the first floor. A wooden ladder with handrails up to a half-floor loft area offers a shared space with an additional queen bed. Individuals staying in the loft should be nimble-bodied.
The cabin offers robust and fast internet at 1 gigabit so bring your laptops! There is intentionally no standalone TV in the cabin, in an effort to keep the cabin a sanctuary in which to unplug. A selection of books and board games are available for your enjoyment.

This place is a real gem. The property is absolutely gorgeous, and the cabin is cozy, well-furnished, and beautifully decorated. It’s far enough out to feel like a real getaway but close enough to a market to be able to drive in for basic amenities. It’s extremely quiet (when the loons weren’t out doing their loon thing!). This was initially jarring, coming from a city, but ultimately rejuvenating. Laurel and Tristan are great hosts, very kind and responsive and helpful. I definitely recommend this sweet little cabin!
They had everything we needed for the stay and the quiet area and calm lake was everything we needed to rest and re energize. We enjoyed fishing in the canoe and all the local shops and sight seeing nearby!
It was exactly as described. We couldn't have been happier. No one bothered us unless we wanted to be, the owner was incredibly responsive, and had a really cute dog too as a bonus :).
What a perfect spot. We had the best time relaxing and canoeing on the lake. The home was clean and so cozy with the wood stove running! Truly a perfect location for a couple's getaway, highly highly recommend.
Fantastic cabin in an amazing location on the lake. The provisions and accoutrements were outstanding and Laurel and Tristan went out of their way to help make our stay a great experience. Thank you!
Cabin well maintained, bathroom small but expected. Nice lake. Canoed the entire lake.Took easy-moderate hikes in area, used fire pit and their canoe. There were two kayaks as well. As an FYI the stove top is Induction range which we have had in a prior home. But, anyone new to it may need some help getting started with using induction.
The best measure of a successful VRBO stay is the number of times it becomes necessary to contact the host. Aside from a very minor issue upon arrival, there was no need to contact Laurel. Our stay at Laurel's cabin was one of the best vacation rentals ever. The cabin was very clean and contained everythng we needed. The location was picture perfect, with great views from the deck and gazebo, as well as easy access to the lake. Sitting around the lakeside firepit at night listening to the loons was a marvelous expeirence.Despite being somewhat remote, services and attractions were close enough if needed.A special thanks to Laurel for providing the unexpected kayaks ... we thoroughly enjoyed time out on the lake.We hope to return and experience the cabin in all four seasons.

The cabin is on a beautiful lake and is very clean and functional but it is very small. You can’t swim in the lake or anywhere very close to the house and no guests are allowed at the house.

We were sorry this guest was disappointed by the size of our cabin and the rules. At the same time, it seems unfair to leave a negative review based on these rules, when they are shared clearly in the description of the property. The first line states that it is a TINY and cozy lakefront cabin. The second paragraph states that swimming is not allowed directly at the cabin, lists the places to swim and indicates how far they are (a 5-10 minute paddle or a one-mile drive). The listing only allows two people, which is what this guest reserved for. But she in fact had additional guests come twice to spend the night. It does not make sense to be disappointed that the cabin is small or that we objected to her additional guests when she listed only two people on her reservation. Our reasons for limiting to two guests are, we think, part of the charm of this special place. It is very remote, peaceful, and quiet-- a perfect place to enjoy nature and the company of one other person. We have only a couple quiet neighbors, and they too appreciate that our rental activities do not change the peaceful nature of this place, that there are not multiple cars coming and going, that one hears more wildlife calls than human calls. Even the fact that there is no swimming on our side of the lake has its advantages, because there is not a loud splashing, cannonballing, yelling, beach party atmosphere. All this is to say that we hope to rent our place to folks who are seeking this kind of quiet, peaceful, nature-based retreat.
We had a delightful time staying in this little cabin on Lake Bradley. The place was immaculately clean when we arrived, and Laurel's instructions made the process of getting there and settling in very easy.
The cabin is tucked away, private and quiet. The views of the lake are stunning, especially from the large porch and gazebo. Even better, of course, when you walk 50 yards down to the waterfront to sit in the Adirondack chairs beside the firepit.
The firepit is just one of many heating options. We loved the wood stove inside and although we didn't get to use either of the two grills, we were glad to know they were an option.
Our days of climbing ladders to a second story loft are over, but if I were a kid or young and lithe I would love that space. As it was, we were happy downstairs. It's small but very workable.
Laurel had left us a welcome note and bottle of maple syrup, and the kitchen was well stocked with coffee beans and a kettle - as tea drinkers, we love to have a kettle - and although the kitchen is small, it's perfectly adequate if you like to cook while on vacation.
The cabin is near the end of a narrow gravel road. If you are arriving for the first time, I recommend you get there during the daylight hours. Once there, the seclusion will embrace you.
This trip with me and my girlfriend was amazing! The cabin was clean and welcoming, the view was spectacular, and I would definitely come back here and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, peaceful vacation!
Idyllic, quiet, private location with contemporary cabin feel. Being the second from last house on the road right before state park/forest lead to a very peaceful and quiet getaway, especially after long days on the slopes of Ragged Mountain - jut 20 minutes away. Kitchen was great and we prepared all our own food without any hiccups or lacking any utensils or appliances. The cross country skiing on the lake was wonderful - hit it right after a few inches of fresh powder and it was like floating on a cloud. The undeveloped side of the lake has a rugged, secluded beauty and homes on the other side are quite quaint little cottages.
Overall I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Cabin was idyllic, Laurel, the host was very hospitable and welcoming. I can see this as a wonderful destination both in summer and winter!

Why they chose this property
The cabin is located at the end of a private gravel road, deep in the foothills of Mount Kearsarge and directly across the lake from Ragged Mountain, where our children are learning to ski. We love to canoe and fish, and hope to purchase kayaks too soon. Only 90 minutes from Boston, the town of Andover has beautiful homes, historic covered bridges, and the innovative Proctor Academy.
