We had a nice relaxing time in Idlewild. The house was clean, in a quiet area, and near a light house and water access that we enjoyed walks to. Would visit again.
This home was perfect for a Birthday Fall Getaway to see the sights of Door County. It was especially appreciated that our pup could join, so Thank You! We loved relaxing by the fire after a day of adventure (brought our own logs, but the house had fire starters which was so helpful!) and would have used the outdoor fire as well, but it was too windy. Loved the secluded location, and nearness to the lighthouse area which we explored in the morning.
Me and the wife had a nice relaxing get away to door county for our anniversary! Will definitely be coming back again. Super easy working with Tom and renting this beautiful home for the weekend
We have stayed in many VRBOs and I will say this had the best appointed kitchen. There were sharp knives, plenty of cutting boards, and every size pot and pan available. There was a toaster oven, instant pot ( with an air fryer lid)…you name it and it’s probably there. We saw lots of wildlife around the house and really enjoyed the large porch. We would definitely recommend.
The ultimate stay for a “mature” girls weekend. Exceptionally clean and pleasant. Short walk to the public beach where we enjoyed the sunsets. My first Vrbo. I hope future Vrbo stays are as good as this one!
Fantastic house with all the amenities. Close enough to all of the key hotspots (Egg Harbor, Fish Bay, Sturgeon Bay) yet had the seclusion we were looking for. We absolutely loved our stay.
This was our second visit to Idlewild By the Bay and we had a wonderful time. The yard and deck is very quiet and relaxing. Amazingly there weren’t many mosquitoes so we were able to enjoy sitting on the deck. The hosts are very responsive and the house had everything we needed. Definitely returning in the future.
The house was beautifully surrounded by trees on the peninsula. Though you cant see the lake from the house you can definitely hear it. We enjoyed being able to drive into town to eat, shop, and sitesee. The state park was abour 10 mins away as well. The house was easy to find and very clean as well as stocked with day to day things. The cell service was in and out, but we didn't have too much need for it anyway. Our 2 year old had a wonderful time being outside and exploring. We left feeling refreshed and rested. Will definitely be back and refering friends and family.
Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood. Very clean with absolutely everything you might need. Comfortable beds made for great sleeping. Wrap around deck was nice for enjoying the fresh breeze and watching wildlife (several deer visited every day). Our two doodles also thoroughly enjoyed their trip. Highly recommend this home. Plan to return again.
Beautiful cottage, very clean with everything we needed. Secluded wooded area. Shopping, restaurants, sight seeing about 15 to 20 minute drive which was not always convenient , especially in heavy rain which we experienced for half of our stay. Mother natures fault, not the owners. Found great pet friendly restaurants in Sturgeon Bay with very friendly staff that welcomed our young schnauzer. Unfortunately due to the rainy weather during our visit we did not have the opportunity to enjoy the wrap around deck, grill, or firepit which would have been an added pleasure. Would recommend this cottage for someone who likes a quiet wooded setting for a peaceful escape.
Tom's home is absolutely lovely! Spacious, yet cozy living area, plenty of kitchen space to create meals, comfortable bedrooms and beds, and a generously sized bathroom. Loved, loved that our dog was welcomed! The home is located in a quiet area, amidst towering trees and homes that are set back from the road, providing privacy. We found the neighborhood to be safely walkable and a peek at the bay is within 5 minutes of the house. It takes about an hour and 15 from the house to the Washington Island ferry, furthest north on the Door, with plenty of wonderful stops in between. All that we met were very friendly, making this area a must return in the future! Thank you for a wonderful stay Tom!
Nice house to stay in. We liked walking around the neighborhood and took beautiful pictures at sunset near the water. My only critique is that it would have been nice to have a ramp to enter the house. We had one person that had difficulties with the steps to get in.
This was the perfect cottage for us. It was close enough to Sturgeon Bay but very quiet in the woods. My daughter saw a deer ambling down the road in the early morning. We enjoyed using the grill and sitting on the deck. A very good experience.
We had a great time! The house was perfect for our weekend away. We saw a lot of wildlife right in the front yard too. Great location close to town and peacefully quiet. We will definitely stay here again next time we come up! Host was very accommodating in us bringing our dogs too. Thank you thank you!! We had a wonderful time!
My wife and I enjoy occasional 3-day weekends to Door County and usually try to get a rental "off the beaten path." We decided on this house because the photos indicated it would be very open with a lot of natural light, with views of the woods. We were not disappointed!
The property was clean, the house was warm even though the weekend was quite cold, and we appreciated that it is pet-friendly. We enjoyed reading and cooking together there. It is also only 15-20mn from Sturgeon Bay--far enough out we did not hear much traffic, but close enough to town.
The only frustration was on the day we arrived. We drove up the day after a major snowfall which was followed by several days of cold with subzero windchills--not uncommon in winter. The main roads including I-43 and Hwy 57 were in good condition and the county highways were passable. However, the house is at the top of a hill which was too slippery for our sedan to ascend. Fortunately, we were able to approach from the opposite direction. When we tried to park, we found the driveway/parking area had been plowed but had not been salted or was lightly salted. Our car had difficulty turning on the ice and ended up impacted into a snowbank. We were able to get it out ourselves the next morning and parked the second night in an alternate parking area that the owner recommended. The owner was very responsive when contacted and did follow up the next day.
Overall, very bright, clean, and warm rental. Thank you!

About the host

We are a young couple from Southeast Wisconsin and we just bought this second home to enjoy with our two daughters, fulfilling our dream of having an amazing place to get away for a respite when desired.
Why they chose this property
We found this property when walking with our brother/brother-in-law (who is just down the road right on the Bay) and ran into the original owners/builders of the property when it wasn't even for sale! They were so proud of their home they mentioned they may be interested in selling - since it was the second home of our dreams, well maintained, and near family, it was a match made in happy. Not to mention it's SO close to all the amenities Door County has to offer!
What makes this property unique
The home is nestled on a hillside in the wonderful wilderness on Sherwood Point near Potawatomi State Park and Idlewild golf course. Almost daily we are greeted by dear watching us through the windows while enjoying our coffee. A local tavern with excellent food (Johnny G's Fishing Hole) is within walking distance and their fish fry on Fridays and prime rib on Saturdays is outstanding! Sturgeon Bay is nearby with excellent shopping at some of our favorite stores including: Bliss Marketplace, Northern Territory, Bayside Bargains, Door County Antiques and Consignment Mall, Cornucopia, and T. Simon Jewelers! Excellent restaurants: Inn at Cedar Crossing, Trattoria Dal Santo, Kick Coffee, 5 and J Coffee to name a few!
