We spend one week in this beautiful and big house. Enjoying the views from the terrace and especially the swimming pool. Close to great wine experiences in Monferratos hills.
We rented this gorgeous villa while in the area for our son's wedding. It is exactly as described and the photos don't do it justice. It is beautifully renovated and has everything a family could need for a vacation.Fontanile is a delightfully quaint little village with a lovely huge church, a wonderful collection of murals, and walkable streets with stunning views to the valleys all around. The bar/cafe a block away is a great spot for a coffee, lunch, or a treat. Fontanile is also just a short drive from many wineries, restaurants and the town of Nizza Monferrato, if you need a break from all the relaxation in the country. We really enjoyed our stay at the villa and would book it again if we ever go back to the area.
Do not rent in the summer! No air conditioning, period
Very quiet stay otherwise, great pool, the house is extremely old but updated (new bathrooms, showers). Everything is in perfect working order, just old…
The layout is also peculiar - really only single en-suite bathroom, the rest of the bathrooms need to be walked to (across the hall or across the kitchen but still).
But of course the main problem for us was the extreme HEAT. 36 degrees C all day long (we stayed in June), and zero air conditioning - there are old school fans in every single room, but they did not help. Neither did opening the windows during the night - they did let mosquitoes in of course.
We woke up every day drenched in sweat and with horrific headache. Which made it rather difficult to enjoy the rest of our days…

Thank you for staying with us. It is actually quite unusual to find air conditioning in Italian countryside properties, including in fully restored buildings such as this. Your stay was during a record-breaking prolonged heat wave across Europe and this did bring temperatures in Italy to 36 Celsius (97 Fahrenheit) as you mentioned. The average high temperature in July in this region is 29 Celsius (84 Fahrenheit) just for context (avg July low temp is 16 Celsius). During less extreme, more typical Italian summer weather our guests have found that the house remains very comfortable. In fact Summer is actually the most popular tourist period for this area and for our property. Thank you again for coming and we’re sorry to hear the heatwave affected your stay.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and kind words about the house, the village, and your overall stay — we’re so glad you enjoyed the space, the cool rooms, and the surrounding area.
We also want to sincerely thank you for letting us know about the cleanliness issues. Unfortunately, our regular cleaning crew experienced a sudden family bereavement just before your arrival, and we were not made aware that a substitute team had been sent in their place. As a result, the cleaning did not meet our usual standards, and we truly apologize for this oversight.
We take your feedback seriously and are already putting better communication processes in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We truly appreciate your understanding, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for an even better stay.
Ein tolles Haus, was viel Platz bietet.

A wonderful house, newly renovated and very clean. Lovely layout with lots of room and best of all had a great outside terrace and pool. Highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a summer stay in Italy!

Why they chose this property
Piedmont is a relatively unknown hidden paradise in northern Italy with a stunning climate, long warm sunny summers and short crisp and often white winters. Once you have visited it will not be long before you desire to return!
What makes this property unique
From the rear terrace and balcony of Cascina Berchi you relax and enjoy a spectacular view of north west Italy, casting your eyes over the vast vineyards of the Monferrato region towards the French, Italian and Swiss Alpine region. On clear days world famous mountains such as Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn can easily be seen.
