About this property
Eagle Creek Ranch in Downtown Los Alamos
Eagle Creek Ranch is my special place. I fell in love with it on my first visit and I just knew it was for me.
The property is 1/2 block from the main street in Los Alamos, CA. It's very private even though it's only right over the creek from Bell Street. The property is fenced and there is plenty of room to walk, explore, play crocket/Bocce Ball/Cornhole, relax, and enjoy a fire in the fire pit or lounge in the jacuzzi.
I decided, after spending months pouring my heart into the property, the ranch house and the Saloon, that I wanted to share it with others. It’s a work in progress but already a comfortable place to call home. The wifi is good, there is parking for many, you can invite guests for dinner under the oak grove and have a drink in the Saloon and you might even see the resident bobcat or the resident fox family wandering through the yard. You're a 10 second walk from downtown Bell Street across the bridge.
The Los Alamos area was originally a Chumash Indian Village and then became a stagecoach town in the late 1800's. It's a short drive to the rest of Santa Ynez Valley and everything it has to offer. It still boasts the last remaining railroad station that serviced the narrow gauge line during the early 1900’s (across the street from my ranch).
One of my favorite things to do is sit outside at the fire pit and stargaze. Because the property is off of Bell Street, you can usually see a starry sky in the evenings.
Whether you want to bike, hike, shop, or explore the many wine tasting and restaurant options available, you’ll always have something to do. Los Alamos, itself, is home to some of the best dining options in the entire Valley and the people are friendly and welcoming. It’s a small town (I have to get my mail at the post office every day), but not too far from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles (to the south) and San Luis Obispo and San Francisco (to the north). It is literally taking a step back in time. Note...Los Alamos is rural! As such, there are occasional (2 to 3 times / year or so) unexpected power outages. The wifi is great at my property but it has gone out 1 or 2 times over the last few years on me, so if you absolutely are relying on wi-fi and would be very disappointed if you happen to staying during one of those 1-2 times a year when it went out, you might want to reconsider staying in Los Alamos!

About the host
Hosted by Dawn Sherry
Hi! I'm Dawn. Born and raised in central California. I'm an architect and own and run an architectural firm in Santa Barbara. I live part-time at Eagle Creek Ranch and part-time on my 50' Grand Banks Motor Yacht in the Santa Barbara harbor with my yellow lab, Brigitte (Bardot). I love sailing, running, cycling, cooking, and traveling, amongst many other lesser known interests such as riding on my big lawn mover, getting dolled up for a party, waxing my car, photographing birds, thrift store shopping, Netflix binging, staring at a campfire with a glass of whiskey, being corny with my friends, and playing keyboards with my girl band. I've traveled quite a bit and lived in Florence, Italy, during school way back in 1989 where I learned to live and breathe Italian. Then I married a Frenchman...lol. Right now, it's back to English, for the most part. I was born about 15 miles north of Los Alamos and have always loved this little town. My family roots are in the country, and I never thought I'd have a chance to get back to those roots until I bought Eagle Creek Ranch. I know I can't really call this the "country", but I can pretend... and it's nice to be able to get dirt under my nails and dust in my teeth as a change from feet in the sand and ocean mist messing up my hair.
Why they chose this property
I came across this property for sale and knew I wanted it. It was love at first sight. I have a history in the hospitality business as an architect, have owned and operated a yacht charter business for 12 years and also own and operate another VRBO property in Santa Barbara. I love sharing my town with others and creating comfortable spaces. Eagle Creek Ranch is a natural muse.
What makes this property unique
The ranch is a work in progress, but already the best things about it include feeling removed from the hustle of life by just crossing the bridge, wandering around the grounds and running into Bob, the bobcat and his friend, Mr. Fox. The Saloon is a special place for me because I love playing music with my friends and inviting people to my very own place! I even like being able to see the freeway lights flickering between the trees at night because I feel removed, yet close to civilization. At night, I love the quiet Living Room with just a fire in the fireplace and a good book. It's a 180 from boat life!
