*Note: Nomad is a rural 8 acre property in the Texas Hill County on the river. There may be animals and insects you are not used to encountering i.e. scorpions, spiders, snakes, bees, mice, wild pigs, deer. You may also see bunnies, kittens, goats and hummingbirds amongst other wild animals. Please keep this in mind when considering travel to the Hill Country and river. Although we do our very best to treat the property for insects, we cannot guarantee you will not encounter these.
Find rustic relaxation on the Nueces River and explore the beautiful Texas Hill Country. We have included a few popular activities to enjoy in and around Camp Wood below. We hope you enjoy these attractions as much as we do!
Nueces River: That's why you're here right? Swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, floating. The beautiful, crystal clear Nueces River is enjoyed by all! Have fun searching for swimming holes and natural springs or simply relaxing with your feet in the water. Nomad offers an abundance of river amenities for you to enjoy during your stay. For a unique swimming experience, take an excursion a few hundred yards down River Road {off of Hwy 55} to take a deep plunge off the bluffs known by the locals as "the swim hole" or "Quince".
Frio Bat Flight Tours: Frio Cave is home to an estimated 10-12 million Mexican Free Tailed Bats. On scheduled weekends March-September, gusts can watch the bats fly.
Garner State Park: 1,419.8 acres of recreational facilities in northern Uvalde County. There are 10 water acres along the Frio River.
Lost Maples State Natural Area: 2,174.2 scenic acres in Bandera and Real Counties, north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River.
Scenic Hill County Drive: Explore the beautiful Texas Hill Country and consider The Twisted Sisters 100-mile loop. "Twisted Sisters" Scenic Drives & Motorcycle Routes: RM-337, RM-335, RM-336. The Sisters travel about 96 mi through massive timbered hills, steep cliffs, secluded valleys and streams. "One of the fifteen most scenic spots in Texas" (Texas Highways, Nov 1998).
