This house is beautifully historic and spacious. We had plenty of space for 7 adults and 2 kids, with room to spare. We enjoyed a daily quick walk to downtown Osceola and the centralized location for other destinations.
Very nice home. Clean and all amenities were as stated
The hosts were very accommodating
Enjoyed our stay.
The best part was the huge dining room and table where we could play cards and games and get all 10 of us around the table.
This home was stunning. I adore older craftsman homes and it was very clean and quaint. My group loved the layout and spent time hanging out in every room!
Wonderful, clean house within walking distance of some beautiful hiking and waterfalls. Nice kitchen and amenities, and very comfortable. Great communication from owners. Highly recommended!
We loved staying at this location. A beautiful home, with lots of historic finishes - hard wood floors, wainscoting in the bathroom, etc. It reminded us of when we lived in Uptown, Minneapolis. Very clean, and the property manager had great communication.
We enjoyed our stay at this early 1900’s era home. Our children enjoyed exploring all the nooks and closets playing with all the toys they brought while us adults enjoyed great conversation by the fire and playing games in the dining room. It was quite chilly during our stay (average temps below zero the entire time) but the house was quite comfortable with plenty of extra blankets if one wanted. We used the hot tub a few shorts times due to the temps but was a nice retreat to get some fresh air. Osceola is a cute little town with everything you’d need if you happened to forget anything.
What a lovely property. The space and layout was perfect for our group. We enjoyed the hot tub and had a great time playing cards in the spacious dinning room. It was a wonderful location within walking distance to the quaint downtown. We also were able to find a nice Saturday morning yoga class at a local winery. Overall a wonderful place to stay and enjoy time recharging with friends.
We loved the house with all it’s creaks and groans and plan to stay there again. And it is only 4 blocks from my sister’s house. One suggestion. A handrail on the back porch steps would be appreciated by us old folks. We had a lot of rain while we were there.
Really appreciated the book about some of the history of the home and local information (restaurants, shops, activities)
Pictures of this lovely historic home are accurate. The home has lots of space for 4+ people and sits in a quiet neighborhood. Our favorite place was the front porch, where we could enjoy coffee in the morning and wine in the evening.
The home is four blocks from restaurants and shops.
Owners were quick to respond with questions or requests. They added personal touches (makings for s’mores at fire pit, granola bars to a quick snack, dew creamers to get you by until going to the grocery store) and extra outdoor chairs.
Only hiccup was an incorrect door code in the welcome packet from vrbo.
We chose this rental as the location for our yearly college friend trip and it was far better than I could have hoped. The town is adorable, but has a lot to offer both in terms of amenities and activities. Canoeing down the river was a blast, the Mall of America is a short drive, and there's plenty of room for activities in the house. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained, the beds were comfortable, there's lots of room to play games, cook, sleep, and do whatever you'd like. Perfect for a family gathering.
The only critique we had was some of the plates and bowls were clearly not cleaned before we got there and still had food from the prior renters and there was a lack of extra toilet paper and towels so we had to buy more TP. Overall incredibly minor issues that had no real impact on our enjoyment.
We were visiting the area for a get-together of school friends and had a great time! The home had everything we needed. We were just sorry we did not spend more time there at the house and the downtown area within walking distance is so cute!
The hosts provided everything we needed and the home was exactly as described. I would totally recommend the home if you have a need for a place anywhere near Osceola.
4 friends spent 4 days at this beautiful historic house. The owner was easy to communicate with. The location is perfect. Just a short walk to downtown. The house was supplied with everything we needed and more. The kitchen could use a new pizza pan.
This is an older home that has been refurbished to keep it's charm. Lots of hardwood floors (that creak) Radiator heat. Leaded glass in some of the windows. Clawfoot bath tub. And it still has some of the modern conveniences too.
This is a fairly large home. It was definitely more than two of us needed. There are three bedrooms up and one bedroom down. A bathroom on each floor, lower is shower only. Upper has the shower and a tub (separate). Beds and other furniture was comfortable. Wi-fi was fast. TV worked fine. Parking is easy. Location is easy to find. There is a little road noise from Cascade Street, but it didn't interfere with sleeping or our enjoyment of the property.
We are hoping this property stays on VRBO. We are likely to stay here again!
The owners were very attentive. We had one issue with the door code and it was resolved within two-minutes. Not really a problem.
Walking distance to a grocery store and laundromat (if you need them). We walked to downtown Osceola for breakfast or dinner a few times.
If you like to stay in a bit of "living history", this is a great property. There are little things to see and wonder about throughout the house.
The homeowners were very easy to communicate with, quickly providing answers to questions ahead of time and providing information to ease check in prior to our stay. The home itself is a beautiful example of River town elegance mixed with the right amount of comfort. A mixed group of 5 kids and 3 adults, we all had space to separate or gather together. I would love to stay in different seasons, this year the ease of access to Trollhaugen made it the perfect stay for our group.

About the host
Hosted by Jamie and Michael Carlson
We're the Carlsons—Michael, Jamie, and three young kids (and a dog). We became short-term rental hosts because we saw the value of investing in properties that could serve the communities they're a part of and show hospitality in a world where there is not enough kindness and welcome. As parents, the work has been fun and valuable as we're trying to show our kids what it looks like to work with our hands in the age of technology. We want our property to be a place of refuge—where guests can come to rest, connect with the people who mean the most to them, and get out to explore the beauties of nature.
Why they chose this property
Cascade House is a special place. Built in the 1860s, it has beautiful woodwork on the main floor, and gorgeous wood floors extending into the bedrooms upstairs. The age of the house adds character without inconvenience, though, with an updated kitchen and fully updated bathrooms. The house boasts large gathering spaces for game nights and family meals, but enough nooks and crannies that everyone can find a cozy place to relax alone. Kids will love the playroom, and the giant closet upstairs that serves as a gateway to imagination (or Narnia). For guests who cannot manage stairs, a main-floor bedroom is available, just steps off from the bathroom. Our outdoor space includes a hot tub, fire pit, and a charcoal grill. Truly, this Cascade House has something for everyone. We love spending time there, and hope you will too.
