About this property
Real Log Cabin + 34 acres + Creek + Barn + Easy Access + Nantahala Forest!
Welcome to Bristol Valley Hollow (or Holler if your from Appalachia)! Named after the Bristol Family which owned this gorgeous little valley-farm for years, we are the third owners of this particular cabin on this incredible plot of Appalachia.
This is our second home and sanctuary from the fast-paced, busy world. Our home is only open to guests on average for one weekend per month. It's a true haven and is not a full-time rental home. The property includes several incredible features for guests to enjoy and experience. The real LOG CABIN consists of 3,200 finished square feet, with four separate bedrooms and 2.5 baths it's perfect for families or groups who want to share space and be together. All bedrooms and two full baths are on the main level along with a large living and dining area that is open to the kitchen. During the cool nights, the wood burning stove creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. The basement is an open area with a pull out sofa, two queen beds, TV, shuffle board, a dining/gaming table as well as a half-bath. It also features a wood burning stove.
The Amenities: 34 acres of private land located among the Nantahala mountain ranges and part of the Appalachian Temperate Rainforest! Our property ranges in elevations from 1,900 ft to just over 2,200 ft. You can explore the property for hours and never see all that nature has to show off here.
1. The Creek - There is a year-round creek that dissects the level pasture land (5-6 acres). The creek "Philips Creek" is the perfect hang-out spot; there is large tree creek-side with lights strung and a couple of swings for the kids! There is also a large fire-pit perfect for relaxing and listening to the rolling sounds of the water. The creek is also perfect for cooling off. Whether you want to play around with the stones lining the bottom of the creek or if you want to plant yourself in the middle with an adirondack chair, the memories made splashing around in the creek are never forgotten. Phillips Creek spans just over 800 feet within our land.
2. The Spring Branch - During the months of March - August "the spring branch" tumbles over rocks and roots right in front of the log cabin. It's also perfect to play in or enjoy the relaxing sounds from the front porch. The spring branch lines the boarder of our property and stretches for more than 1,500 ft into the densely wooded "holler." It's the perfect place for exploring and taking in nature. You'll find hundreds of Rhododendrons, ferns, moss, and other native flora! This is where the rain forest feels real.
3. The Barn - enjoying the outdoors, indoors. The barn has been converted from a mini-horse stall barn into a year-round "recreation barn." It's perfect for square dances, family reunions, rainy day games or hanging out. It is outfitted with Edison bulb string lights, electricity and a water connection.
4. The Cabin Porches - the cabin has a large covered front porch lined with chairs and faces the spring branch and steep hillside that is covered in Rhododendrons. The back porch is uncovered and features a 5 person hot tub, lounge chairs, dining table and Edison bulb string lights. It is private and tucks right up against the steep slope of one of the highest peaks on our property.
5. The trails - Several options include a stroll along Phillips Creek, or an easy trek into the "holler" along the spring branch, or a more moderate hike up the 300 foot climb "between the ridges" trail. These trails are private and located on our property, we try to maintain them the best we can, but can't guarantee their condition or your ability to complete them. We have worked diligently with local arborists to save and protect our beloved Hemlock trees. With more than 40 "large/old growth" trees and dozens of new growth trees, we love these native evergreens that have recently been under attack by invasive beetles and disease. We hope you enjoy them as well!
As you can imagine, this is our "special place." We make memories almost every week here with our three children and extended families. We hope you and your group will appreciate it as much as we do and will understand the difference between a "full-time rental" and something like what is offered here at Bristol Valley Hollow.
Nearby:
- Nantahala Lake: about 25 minutes up Junaluska Road. Has a Marina.
- NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center): about 25 minutes up the highway, zipline and ropes course for 50 lbs. + kids/adults, tree top nets for littles, a couple of restaurants, alcohol served on site, live music dates during summer and fall, rafting, etc. Tree Tops = $8, Zipline/Ropes = $49
- Casino: 18 minutes back towards Murphy. I mean, it's not Vegas but if gambling is your thing. Here's your place!
- Rafting Nantahala - much less "adventurous" as compared to the Ocoee River. Several rafting outfitters nearby.

- Deep Creek Tubing (Bryson City)

About the host
Hosted by Nathan Brown

We are from Cleveland, TN and now live and work in Chattanooga, TN. We both grew up with land or farm and room to roam. We lived in Portland, OR for three years before moving back to Chattanooga in 2015. We realized that we loved hosting friends and family in our city (both in Portland and then in Chattanooga). In 2018 we decided to purchase two vacation rentals in Chattanooga. After two years we realized that our family plan did not include managing short term rentals in our home base city. We also decided we wanted our children to grow up in nature and have room to roam! So, in 2020 we decided to sell one of the vacation rentals in Chattanooga and instead purchase a cabin and land. We purchased this property in late November 2020. For the first year we have worked to get the place back into good condition and have loved spending almost every weekend here. We have three children, loads of grandparents, siblings, cousins and friends who also share this special place with us often.
Why they chose this property
This property is not a "cookie cutter" vacation rental cabin. It is a cozy cabin that is true log and chink construction. Until this year (2021) when we installed central HVAC, the home was heated with wood burning stoves. There is also plenty of room to explore! My favorite word to describe the cabin is "comfortable." The property and setting is truly peaceful. We like to say that "time slows down" at Bristol Valley Hollow! We are excited to share our home with others who appreciate the need for an escape to a slower pace, beautiful nature and small towns.
What makes this property unique
Creek, pasture land, barn, log and chink construction, acreage, privacy, wood burning stoves, close to Nantahala river gorge, Valley River Casino is 15 minutes away, Murphy NC is 20 minutes away, small town of Andrews is just 5 minutes from Cabin.
