About this property
Lake Haven - Updated Mid Century Cabin Only 35 Mins from St. Louis
Please note - Our lake has been closed for swimming due to algae that can be toxic.
Charming mid century cabin on gorgeous lakefront lot is the perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city yet is still close enough to take in all the action of St. Louis. Located about 30 mins from St. Louis, 10 mins from Six Flags, and 20 mins from Purina Farms, this is the perfect place for your family to relax and reconnect.
Lake Haven was built by the developers of Lake Tekawitha back in the late 1940s and has been in the same family for decades until previous owners completely and lovingly restored it from top to bottom in 2017. Although electrical, HVAC, new windows, flooring, bathrooms, etc have been updated, the original charm and beauty still remains.
What used to be a two-bedroom / one bath cabin has been expanded into the former garage into a stunning primary bedroom suite with a sleeping loft. The primary bedroom features soaring vaulted ceiling clad in warm pine, large windows overlooking peaceful Lake Tekawitha, shiplap walls and beautiful laminate floors. A comfy queen size bed is dressed with soft vintage linens and fluffy pillows. Climb the ladder to the cozy little sleeping loft where you'll find two twin beds and enough room for a sleeping bag or two! The en sute bathroom features a large combination soaker tub and shower and vanity with lots of storage.
Between the primary suite and the main living area of the original cabin, is a fabulous Great Room with original knotty pine walls, vaulted cedar ceiling and massive cedar log beams. Belly up to the original bar or just relay in the incredibly comfy furniture while taking in the expansive views of the lake. Large, new windows were installed (2017) to maximize the view. This room also features a darling mid-century formica and chrome dining table and chairs -- providing a great place to dine of for a game of cards.
The main part of the house is quaint and cozy with it's original knotty pine walls, custom valances, and ceiling. Curl up with a good book by the large stone fireplace in the living room or just admire the view of the lake through the expanded windows and glass door. You'll find a selection of games and books in the bookcase and there is a tv that can be used to stream movies, Netflix, etc
The eat-in kitchen is full of vintage touches - another great 1950s table and chairs and original electric stove. The kitchen is also updated with modern conveniences that will make meal prep a snap -- a full size refrigerator, ice maker, microwave, pots and pans, etc. We'll provide the dish gloves, Palmolive (you're soaking in it) and embroidered dish towels...you wash and dry the dishes the old fashioned way. Whoever looses the card game does the dishes!
Each of the two bedrooms in the main part of the cabin are decked out in sweet, comfy linens. The first bedroom has beautiful, oversized twin beds that came from Germany. The second bedroom overlooks the lake and has a full sized bed. The original bathroom features a tub/shower combination and has been updated but still retains it's mid-century charm We couldn't stand to part with the original pink sink and bathtub. The robbin's egg blue tiles were fully restored or replaced with carefully matched tiles from area thrift and antique stores.
The outdoor spaces at Lake Have are just as great as the inside. You can access the huge 60x10 foot deck from the living room, Great Room, or Primary bedroom. It runs almost the entire length of the house and offers unobstructed outdoor views of the quiet 20 acre lake. There is comfortable outdoor furniture for relaxing and a 6 person table and chairs for dining al fresco. The original stone fire pit is about 30 feet from the lakeshore and is perfect for long stories around the fire at night or for making s'mores! You will also have access to gas or charcoal grills located on the deck.
On the front of the house there is a large covered porch that is easily accessible from the kitchen and the Great Room. It features ceiling fans and a wood paneled ceiling. This is a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The front yard is fully fenced.
Lake Have in a terrific location! A short drive from Interstate 44 (formerly Route 66) near the towns of Pacific (4 miles away) and Eureka (8 miles away). There are cute shops and restaurants in both of these little towns. About 20 mins to Purina Farms in Gray Summit, only 10 mins to Six Flags. You can find great hiking spots in nearby conservation areas (Young, Glassberg), do some skeet shooting at St. Louis Skeet and Trap Club (Pacific), canoe or float on the Meramac River or just fish out your back door in Lake Tekawitha. There are lots of caves to explore in Missouri and you can go spelunking about 40 mins away at Meramac Caverns. And of course, there is so much to do in Saint Louis, which is only about 30-40 mins away, depending on traffic and how far in town you plan to go. Cardinals Baseball and Busch Stadium is a favorite destination. The St. Louis Zoo, located in the beautifully restored Forest Park, is world class and FREE. Don't forget to check out all the attractions in Forest Park...The Boathouse, Art Museum, History Museum, and the Planetarium and Science Center. Grab diner and catch a musical at the outdoor Muny Opera Theater. Saint Louis Botanical Gardens is another gem. Saint Louis is our home town and it's an amazing place to visit, especially if you have children or grandchildren. The City Museum, the creative vision of artist-architect Bob Cassily, should not be missed. The Magic House in Kirkwood is one of the top children's museums in the country. And of course, a trip to the Gateway Arch (a national park) and its new Gateway to the West Museum never disappoints.
Lake Haven is a unique and beautiful place to unwind and connect with family and friends. But if you have to connect with the outside world, we do offer complimentary WiFi.
We look forward to having you as our guest and providing you with a comfortable, relaxing, and memorable experience.

About the host
Hosted by Bruce Butler
We first stayed at Lake Haven last year as guests and we were immediately hooked! We both work in the real estate industry in St. Louis and we could tell right away this was a special, relaxing place. Our two kids, Sarah (23) and Clay (20) really enjoy the solitude and cabin-vibes at Lake Haven. We love to bike, kayak, and hike, so we're ready to explore and will keep you updated on all the highlights nearby.
