This is Josh and Christie's basement apartment. There is a separate entrance that you have entirely to yourself. We are just a 5-min. walk from downtown so you can easily walk to dinner, tour downtown, and check out everything the city has to offer. Sitting high above Mt Rushmore Road, light from 3 windows makes you feel above ground. Our back patio is nice for relaxing and our location can't be beaten. Are we booked? Check out our upstairs space "Modern Meets Classic minutes from Downtown."
The space Our little home is small but cozy and cute. Our studio is perfect for your stay. With free wifi, AppleTV, and a central location, it’s a great place to call home while you’re in the Black Hills. Get out and explore, relax and watch some TV, or enjoy grilling and laying on the hammock in the backyard.

Guest access Access to the house is the alley in the rear. Parking is limited but you have your own space. Head out to the front of the house to follow the sidewalk and walk downtown.
Other things to note Parking is free and available but limited to 1 space (possible 2 on special request).
We use an August Lock for check-in. Once a booking is confirmed, it will auto-generate an email to you with check-in instructions so please look for that right away as some people miss it.
We welcome your pets, but we do charge an extra cleaning fee of $25 to allow for a more thorough cleaning after your furry friend visits.
The steps down to the apartment are very steep. If you have trouble getting up or down steps, it could make access more difficult.
The room is pretty spacious, but the ceilings are low. If you are taller than 6’1”, the height of the support beam in the room could be inconvenient.
We rent out the main level as a separate unit as well, but you have your own private space. Only Laundry and the backyard are shared.

This basement apartment was the perfect place for my short solo stay in Rapid City! Very clean and well organized/decorated. Hosts were nice and communicated well! I would absolutely go back!
It was a great experience and walking distance to a lot of things to do downtown. The only item that was a little tricky was the stairs down to the apartment, but overall, it was a wonderful experience.
Communication with host was great. The extras really stood out, and the space was very clean. The description was accurate (note the description of the stairs). The only down side as that the bed was soft or needs to be replaced. Outside of the bed, we loved the space.
Super cute little apartment! Easy walking distance to and from downtown, which is what we were looking for so that we could go out for New Years Eve and wouldn't have to drive. Great communication from the hosts. We would definitely stay here again!

So happy you stayed with us! Thanks for choosing our place. Come back anytime!
This was the perfect spot to stay for our holiday. The 'Cozy Apartment' was exactly as described and was everything we needed for our stay in Rapid City. The location next to downtown and our hosts' food/drink recommendations were spot on. Check in/out was super easy and communication with our hosts Josh and Christie was excellent. I highly recommend staying with them if you plan on visiting Rapid City.
Apartment was centrally located to absolutely everything! Downtown Rapid City is two blocks away and is an adorable town. The city parks are magnificent for family fun and unwinding.
The basement apartment was a cute and cozy stay for my husband and I! Great location. Prompt, kind, and clear communication with the owners. Would recommend!
It was just the right size for 2 adults for two nights in Rapid City. The full fridge was nice as was the grill! Outdoor space was super inviting and relaxing. We requested a couple of things and received them the next day. Just be aware the steps are steep but nothing that would keep us away from this spot. Great communication! Recommend
You guys!!!! These hosts are the B-E-S-T! They're communication is beyond! They've put so much thought, and joy, and love into making their rentals warm, inviting, and comfortable. So many little comforts scattered throughout the space to make your stay feel like the home of a best friend. These hosts will be my first search for all my visits to western SD.
This please was very nice to stay at and the communication was very clear and easy to use. It look exactly like the photos but the only thing left out was the entrance in the photos. I was taken back when I realized that the stairs to get downstairs (basement) was super narrow and steep. Other than this flaw it was terrific to stay. Ceiling was a little short but I’m pretty tall.

Hey Jodi! Thanks so much for staying with us. Glad you enjoyed your stay! We mention the steps in the description but that can be missed. I have added an additional photo of the steps to help future travelers. Thanks so much!
The location was great, just a few blocks from downtown. Getting in and out of the apartment was a little difficult due to our age and lack of flexibility, but that was the only drawback. The host was what made the stay so great. He was very communicative as far as check-in procedures, but where he excelled was responsiveness. We had a personal issue that I won't get into and he did everything in his power to make it right. I would highly recommend this apartment, and especially this host. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely plan on staying here.
My husband and I had a wonderful time visiting South Dakota and this little room was a very cozy experience for the both of us. We are very thankful that Josh and Christie were of making it cozy and easy for us to get in. The only thing negative I would say is that there is this smell of cigarettes that seeps in. On the first day of arrival, it was there but later in the day my nose couldn’t take it. We didn’t want to continue to bother the property manager about the problem, so we covered the smell by cooking breakfast every morning. (Thank you bacon!) Otherwise, the description is very thorough and accurate, the place was cute and small, and I recommend staying here!! :)

Thank you so much for staying with us! Bummer you sensed the smell of smoke. We have a very strict non-smoking policy and, up until this point, have had no issues with guests following our policies. We personally ensure that our unit is thoroughly cleaned after each stay and have never experienced the smell of smoke inside the unit (when we lived there or otherwise). Thank you for bringing it to our attention, though, as we will look into whether someone is smoking around the premises of our property. Glad you found a way around it and had a great stay! Thank you, again, for choosing us. You're welcome back anytime.

Cozy means 'tiny'
Basement apartment clean but very tiny. Booking said fenced yard but back fence was open. If not stopped by an over-turned trash can, my dog could have made it to busy city street.

Hey Janelle! Sorry your expectations weren't met. We try our best to have our pictures represent our unit and so it's unfortunate you expected something different.
Bummer to hear your dog got out! I know ours can be an escape artist sometimes too- I assure you, though, the yard is fully enclosed/fenced. Perhaps the gate wasn't properly latched? Nonetheless, the wind must have blown the garbage cans over so I'm glad they kept your dog from getting into the ally.
Thank you for staying with us.
This was a great place for a couple to stay for a quick weekend trip. Steps onto the property and to get into the room are steep, but we did not have any issues with that. Located on a main road that was sort of noisy, but inside we could not hear any traffic noise. Nice location near downtown. Good communication with owner.

About the host

Hi! I'm Josh! My wife, Christie, and I manage this property. We love Rapid City and living in the black hills. We are both artists in our own ways. I (Josh) and a graphic designer and I love to read, travel, brew coffee, run and go out to eat.
Why they chose this property
This was Christie and I's first home purchased together. We love this house and made so many memories here. It was small but cozy and we enjoyed living here, close to downtown and it will always be a special place for us. We recently moved about 5 blocks away to make room for a little bigger family, but aren't too far because we just love the location and being close to downtown.
