About this property
Historic Cottage Retreat • walk to downtown • porch swings • cozy fireplaces
Proud to be a Victorian, the Sallie Lee Cottage is an exquisite example of the architectural wonders of the late 1800s. Around 1880, Sallie Lee built a stick-style Victorian cottage on Ashland Avenue. In doing this, she became the first woman to own a home in Western North Carolina. The cornerstone of this beautiful home centers around the exterior architectural displays of lines, angles, and ornate grids. Furthermore, the interior is equally exceptional, centering around its unique triangular fireplace; which results a distinct Latin cross floor plan.
The home boasts two bedrooms and one full bath. The Butterscotch Room has a fully functioning gas fireplace and access to the Mahogany Tea Room. The Tea Room is bathed in sunlight and offers access to the homes' two front porches! Enjoy a warm cup of tea relaxing in a vintange velvet chair. Lastly, the Terracotta Room has a full sized wardrobe which was built using the original flooring pulled from the home during the restoration process. Each bedroom has a brand new queen sized bed and plenty of natural light.
The bathroom offers a full sized bathtub and shower, plush towels and essential toiletries, just in case!
The cozy living room is inviting for great conversation centered around the gas fireplace. Shared with the dining space, the home also utilizes Google Home for anything and everything the internet has to offer.
The unique floor plan continues in to the kitchen where you will find the cabinets completely stocked and ready for any chef!
The property offers off-street parking with a private driveway and fits up to two vehicles. Additional parking available.

A lovely place to stay! The cottage was comfortable, clean, and well stocked. It was right around the corner from a cafe that became our go to breakfast spot. Communicating with the hosts was a breeze as well. We would stay here again!
This was a great house. Very charming and cozy. All of the furniture and decor were antiques. The house was very eclectic. There was also parking on site which was great Location is very convenient for getting around, we were a short walk to all the great things that downtown had to offer. The owner was great and extremely friendly. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Asheville!
Cute little historic house with driveway parking. Neighborhood felt safe and kinda funky/fun but quiet. Everything worked and was exactly as described / pictured. Hosts were helpful when we had a question but otherwise gave us privacy. Highly recommend!
We loved our stay at this cottage in Montford. The host was responsive and a genuinely wonderful host. We felt right at home and enjoyed our time there.
We really enjoyed our stay in this classic little cottage off the beaten path. Cozy, quite quaint and clean. Easy walking distance to plenty of shops and eateries. Well stocked with essentials and great communication from hosts. Thank you!
My daughter and I enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, historic home. It was our first time visiting Asheville. We found the home very, comfortable and clean. The location can't be beat. Very close to the downtown area and just a short drive to the Biltmore Estate. Our last night, we walked to Tall John's to celebrate my birthday. We absolutely had a wonderful time.
I had a great stay in the cottage. It was very clean and comfortable and I had everything I needed. Very convenient to everything I wanted to do downtown. Would stay again!

Thank you for such sweet words!!! We definitely strive to make each stay a magical experience!!
The cottage was perfect for our weekend in Asheville. It is convenient to everything in the area and quite beautiful. The living areas have a warm bygone elegance that will transport you to another era in time. It is perfect for couples on a romantic weekend getaway.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The neighborhood is nice and the location was very convenient for trips downtown. Appreciated the private driveway, so we didn't have to park on the street. The beds were a bit firm for us, but overall we had a great stay.

Hello beautiful humans!! I am a Pharmacist and my husband works as a book-keeper from home. We live in the basement apartment and absolutely love living in Asheville! We also love to be outdoors and travel to new places! We have fur baby Tallulah and a new baby boy! Tallulah enjoys running around the side yard and meeting new people.
Why they chose this property
My husband and I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains just over the state line into the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Therefore moving just a little farther north made complete sense! We love Asheville and the wonderful and unique individuals we have come to call friends and family. We hope you enjoy everything Asheville has to offer!
What makes this property unique
Our home is a beautiful piece of Asheville. It has been wonderfully preserved and restored to its former glory. Its' character is shown throughout the home in each and every room. Please feel free to read the full description in our listing as we could absolutely gush about our home endlessly. Our neighbors are the real rockstars of our street. They are wonderful people to meet and enjoy a conversation with. Most are explats, but have grown and woven into the fibers of Asheville's amazing tapestry. Like ourselves, they are a wealth of information of what is going on in the area. Additionally we are a quick 2 block walk to downtown!
