About this property
Bold Coast Camp Minutes from Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula
Bold Coast Camp is a quiet site on the village hill. This glamping gem is in walking distance to restaurants, passenger ferry, art galleries, shops, library, bank, post, farmers market and everyday provisions. Bike rental a few meters away from Bold Coast Camp can extend your travel through the village of Winter Harbor along coastal routes through Grindstone Neck, through the national park, and over to Prospect Harbor.
We are a 5 minute drive to the entrance of the Schoodic Loop of Acadia NP. A free, seasonal bus (search Island Explorer bus for schedule) picks up nearby and carries you about town and into the national park (entrance is less than a mile away). We are a 45 minute drive to Mount Desert Island/Bar Harbor. There is also a seasonal ferry within walking distance (about 5 minute walk) that takes you across Frenchman's Bay to Bar Harbor in 45 minutes. (May need a reservation for the ferry) It's a beautiful boat ride on a sunny day and you can often see porpoise and a variety of sea birds. The ferry generally runs into September. In Bar Harbor, you can hop on a free bus that will take you to Acadia and around town.
After a great day outdoors, return to the peaceful 5 meter bell tent, plenty of Berkey-filtered fresh water for drinking and clean, solar heated water for bathing. There is a Solo stove with plenty of kindling and a small bit of wood to start your evening (for long burns into the night please bring a roll of roadside camp wood). There is also a propane gas pit with comfortable chairs; a perfect setting for dark sky stargazing while wrapped in a cozy outside blanket. The tent sleeps two with a comfortable queen mattress made up with beautiful clean linens, outfitted for weather considerations and maximum comfort. A twin futon can be dressed as well for a third guest, or upon request. The portable toilet is close by, serviced weekly and for Bold Coast Camp guests only.
Amenities include: Soft towels, complimentary bar soap from local Prospect Harbor Soap Company provided. Small library, cards, games. Small courtesy of tea, coffee bags and cocoa to start your morning. There is a Coleman stove, (small propane canister needed), tea kettle, cups, spoons, napkins. Available ice cooler. Picnic Basket/cooler bag with bread board, knife, plates, wine glasses, forks, napkins, tablecloth, and tea towels. Basket of first aid needs.
Within the tent, please find our camp catalog with local events, restaurants, rentals, boat trips, and more for your convenience. There are recycle and disposal barrels beside the garage with extra bags for your convenience when disposing of waste. The extra wrap will keep an invitation for critters low.
I would love to welcome you to spend a few evenings under the stars; waking to early birds songs, fog horns, and bells, seagulls and eagles circling and sea breezes filling your senses. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay at Bold Coast Camp.

The tent was exactly the type of experience we were looking for during our stay. The tent and the bathroom were very clean and the bed was very comfortable and she accommodated us with a space heater for the chilly evenings. It’s a short walk from the Musquito Harbor Brewery that had great drinks and very delicious food. It was a 10/10 experience and we would absolutely stay here again!
A uniquely wonderful way to experience Winter Harbor. The tent is wonderfully furnished-the bed is especially comfortable! The interior table is perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee with the crisp morning air. I highly waking up around 1am on a clear night and looking up. The perfect place to relax and connect with the beauty that is Winter Harbor. Also, Margaret is wonderfully hospitable host. I certainly look forward to visiting again.
The tent was clean and comfortable - stayed dry and cozy during an overnight heavy rain. Margaret was helpful, and great about providing a way for us to get our morning coffee. Nice stove for an evening campfire. The bathroom and shower were clean and well appointed. The site is within walking distance of good restaurants and a brewery. It was an ideal location for us to bike in Acadia National Park - both the Schoodic and Mt. Desert areas. Winter Harbor and the Schoodic Pennisula are less crowded than the Bar Harbor area.
Me and boyfriend recently stayed here for a couple nights wanting the camping experience while also wanting to go to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Margaret was wonderful and she was so kind and extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the big book of recommendations inside our yurt and especially loved the mosquito bar walking distance right down the street! 10/10!
Unforgettable Stay in Winter Harbor!I booked a stay at this bell yurt and it was easily one of the best trips I've taken! The yurt itself was super clean, cozy, and set up for an amazingly peaceful night's sleep—complete with thoughtful details like red lighting. The interior features two very comfortable beds and is well-equipped to host two or more people with ease.Margaret was an outstanding host—so welcoming, helpful, and attentive to every detail to ensure everything went smoothly. The location is unbeatable: you are just minutes away from the Schoodic Peninsula, which is just as breathtaking as the main section of Acadia National Park, but without the crowds. Plus, it’s only about a 10-minute walk down to the dock to catch the ferry across Frenchman Bay to Bar Harbor.I loved how quiet and quaint Winter Harbor is compared to the bustle of MDI. Taking the ferry over to Bar Harbor with my bike made exploring and hiking seamless, and coming back to the calm atmosphere of Winter Harbor was the best part of my day. Grabbing a pint at Musquito Harbor Brewing Company was another great local highlight.I couldn't have asked for a better spot to recharge. I highly recommend this stay for solo travelers, couples, or small groups looking for a unique, beautiful Maine getaway!
A totally comfy yurt with all amenities, and a lovely host. Have already shared this with other friends and will return myself as soon as I can. A very special spot at the brink of Schoodic, the secret prime best of Acadia.
We absolutely loved staying in the tent! Every necessity was thought of, and the location was perfect for our weekend getaway hiking Acadia! Our host, Margaret, was super accommodating and it was very clear that she cared about how comfortable we were.
Margaret’s glamping set up is a singular tent on her private property. She’s done a great job at making it very comfortable, private, full of solar powered light, and all the amenities you could need. I I also much preferred Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor.
Beautiful, cozy, and comfy yurt. Everything we needed for camping. The location was quiet and out off the hustle and bustle of bar harbor. The host was very helpful, kind, and respected of our space.
Margaret is a wonderful host and prepared the tent for anything one would need. The charging stations, robes, games, and kindling were especially helpful and unexpected. The bed as others have said was extremely comfortable and there were plenty of soft warm blankets for a nice sleep. We hope to be back one day!
Camp site is cute and provides almost anything you could possibly want (could use some cookware). Bed was really comfortable, and the chorus of birds in the morning was lovely. Also there’s a friendly neighbor chicken that stops by to visit on occasion.
Our stay during our Acadia vacation was just what we hoped for. The host had thought of everything we might need in the tent, the location was quiet, private and 5 min from the quiet part of Acadia. It’s about an hour to bar harbor but we were so glad to be off the beaten path in our cozy tent. Did i mention the bed was so comfy and the bakery actoss the street sooo delicious. Highly recommend
Relaxing, cozy tent with an incredibly comfy bed, walking distance to Chase's restaurant and the ferry to Bar Harbor, and a friendly host and resident cat!. The camp shower was fine, but suggest showering at night after the water has been in the sun! The outdoor bathroom = a port a potty, the cleanest I have ever used!
Very comfortable. Amenities more than advertised: has outdoor furniture, raised fire pit, camping shower, extension cord for charging devices, ample cozy blankets, local guide book, star charts, games, linens. Location adjacent to Schoodic Peninsula is perfect, close by to fabulous dining. Be sure to eat the scallops at Chase's, and breakfast / lunch at Gerrish's cafe. A charming hostess made sure we were happy while providing privacy.
Great location for walking to restaurants or quick access to Schoodic Peninsula and all its beauty! Check-in was easy, bed super comfortable. Gas fire pit and solo stove for wood camp fires. Back corner of backyard, but felt private. Lovely spot! The shower bags got hot in the sun, but there wasn’t a place high enough to hang them to actually take a shower. One small improvement would be to rig a pulley system to get the shower bag up near head level! Also, the solar patio lights were nice, but we couldn’t figure out how to turn them off!
Exactly the glamping experience that we came for. It's a little ways away from the main Park, but we prefer going off the beaten path - it was definitely worth our while. The campsite has everything you could possibly need - all you need is your shampoo and coffee! All touches are so thoughtful and welcoming. Margaret's surrounding gardens are just gorgeous. You may be lucky to receive a visit from Charlie 1, the calico cat! Margaret is a beautiful soul and a perfect host. There if you need her or care for a chat, but otherwise leaves you to do your thing. Highly recommend this spot
Everything about this listing is accurate- it's the perfect balance of camping and modern comfort amenities! The bakery next door makes delicious food and coffee, and the property managers are so easy to work with. We were only there two nights and it was pretty chilly so we never did try the shower, but it all looked clean and easy to use! 10/10 would recommend and come back again! Thank you!
