NEW AS OF January 2021: 30mbps internet, New granite Kitchen, all new appliances
Note: There are 12 Premier Host properties out of the 400 VRBO properties In Nosara and Casa de Memphis I & II are two of the twelve. We were awarded this award by VRBO for our actions during the Covid-19 upheaval. How did we earn this award? Well quite frankly we refunded everyone 100% of any and all funds regardless of our own refund policy. We did not have to do this but we did because it was the right thing to do. Most in fact did not. You can rent with assurance with Casa de Memphis and we have over $100,000USD in refunds to prove it.
Casa de Memphis II is located at the little known north entrance to Playa Pelada where the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean. (Note: There are two Casa de Memphis’,I & II. They are located just around the corner from one another.) This private beach house is part of a collection of 8 private houses surrounded by the beach on one side and the ostional wildlife refuge on the other. There is only one road in or out and few people are aware that this section exist. This location is very private yet still very convenient to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and everything else the community of Nosara has to offer.
The location is what makes this small community so special. With the ocean on one side, the Ostional wildlife area on the other and the Nosara River meets the Pacific Ocean near by, the area is a Mecca for wildlife. Because of the peaceful coexistence between the home owners and the natural surroundings, the wildlife literally comes to the door of the house. If you are looking for private seclusion surrounded by peace and quiet, this is it. That is until a flock of parrots land in the tree above and the neighborhood monkey troop join in, then it gets a little noisy, but they were there first.
The house is a one minute walk to the beach. Constructed in the style of the surrounding community; this one story two bedroom house is set up for the traveling family. One bedroom has a full size bed and the other has two set of custom made punk beds. Both bedrooms have private baths with walk in showers. There is a twin bed in the main room up in the loft. There is also a separate, private one bedroom cabina with its own private bathroom and garden that is only accessed by a private bridge over a stream. Together the two will sleep 8 people. Both the house and the cabina are fully air conditioned, and they have the amenities of home including, private pool, dishwasher that actually works, beach towels, high speed wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, monitored alarm system and more. The house and cabina are only rented out together, never separately. Note: the kitchen was completely torn out and remodeled in late 2020.
Important: The house has a water storage system that will supply all of your water needs when local water company is forced to shut off the entire water system in times of draught during the evening hours. This usually happens around 16:00 and is not turned back on until the system fills back up the next morning. This is a big issue to most of the other houses that do not have this system. Casa de Memphis guest will never even know it!
Because the house sits at the end of a road there is no through traffic, noise or the associated dust commonly found elsewhere.
Security: Costa Ricans are by nature a very passive people. That said petty theft is an on going issue. Nothing neutralizes this issue more than common since. CdM I & II have monitored alarm systems and 400 pounds safes bolted to the floor. No other house available for rent has this level of security.
Tired of cooking? We can arrange for a private chef to do all of the shopping, come to the house and prepare the menu of your choice at a mere fraction of what dinning out would be. This is the best bargain in Nosara and the wife of the owner of the house takes full advantage of this. Imagine, someone comes to the house at 17:00 (5PM), cleans, prepares dinner, cleans up afterwards and departs by 20:00 (8PM). Cost: $30 plus groceries. Tell us what you want and we will make it happen.
NOTE: Nosara, like many other beach communities, is experiencing a building boom. The northern end of Playa Pelada, where the house is located, is the only location free from the early morning construction noise, truck traffic and the associated dust. Dust is a serious issue from December to May. While there is very little traffic in front of the house we still apply molasses to the road out front to seal off the dust. Place smells like pancakes.

I had high expectations for staying in this house, and I can only say that it was even better than I imagined! We were met by the wonderful host at the property at check-in and check-out. The property had everything for a spectacular vacation: buggy. boards, beach chairs, beach towels, and a well stocked kitchen. The beach was a hidden gem and the pool was a wonderful way to cool down in the afternoon. Thank you for sharing your glorious bit of paradise!
Overall we enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of space for our group of five. Tiffany, the property manager, was awesome. She was prompt and professional when replying to our messages and we found her gracious and accommodating throughout our stay. The proximity to Playa Pelada couldn't be better. The pool was lovely and we were delighted by the wildlife sightings in the yard, including howler monkeys in the trees. The AC and fans all worked properly and were most appreciated in such a hot climate. That said, there were a few things that could be improved upon. The dishwasher was broken, as were the blender and the pool net. The shower in the casita came out as a drip. With a few fixes we'd happily stay at this rental again.
This property was great for our family. A quick walk to beautiful Playa Pelada and the tide pools were outstanding. You could take a short walk on the roads or the beach to restaurants and a wildlife refuge. We had a blast and would love to go back some day!
The kitchen was well equipped for cooking, the pool was lovely. The owner and property manager were fantastic. When we got there, the fridge wasn’t working and we had a new fridge in a couple of hours. The property is away from the town but it also made it very quiet. We felt very safe there and it was very private. The gate fell off its track and almost fell on one of us on our last day. Overall a great stay!
House was great. Just as advertised. I'd definitely stay here again.

Disliked: Cleanliness, communication, location
We did not find the house to look and feel clean. It had been tidied by housekeepers but there were lots of spiderwebs on the walls and the overall area being near the beach is quite dusty and to some extent the house interior was also a bit dusty, the floors felt grimy for example. The pool had alot of leaves and old flowers fallen to the bottom of the pool and it had turned black - likely the pool had not been cleaned for several days. The unit lost water the day we checked in and that evening the unit lost electricity. This seems to happen from time to time in that area.
Tiffany was the best! She was very responsive to questions and concerns. Tiffany gave us recommendations that were spot on!! The house was comfortable and well stocked with towels, pots and pans. We walked to the beaches.
This is a great little home in Playa Pelada. It has a well stocked kitchen and makes the most out of a relatively compact home. There is a bed in a loft and another small cabin that has another bedroom and bathroom. It is just a few minute walk to the beach and about 10 minutes into some local restaurants in Playa Pelada. It is about a 20 minute walk into playa Guiones, which is the main beach in the nosara area. Tiffany took great care of us during our stay and had lots of helpful local recommendations!
The pool was great, proximity to the beach is awesome. I wasn’t comfortable swimming in it but at low tide there’s tons of tide pools to check out. Beautiful at sunset. The host/manager was fabulous and very welcoming. The house is on the older side but well maintained. Dish washer was broken but the manager offered to have someone fix it. Couches and the beds were pretty uncomfortable. The road up is a wild ride! You should have a 4x4.
We enjoyed our stay. We did not use the casita or the upstairs loft area. The pool was perfect for the hot weather and enjoyed by everyone. We saw monkeys daily and enjoyed the wildlife - birds, lizards etc. Very short walk to the beach and close to many local attractions but in a quiet area. Tiffany, the property manager, was helpful and attentive. Thanks for sharing your home!
This is overall an absolutely lovely and perfectly Nosara property. The back deck and pool area with beautiful plants and trees are serenely divine. The home is spacious, including the bedrooms, and more than served our needs. Really the bedroom with two sets of bunkbeds and the master bedroom are larger than I would have imagined. With the casita and loft included, this home is great for a large family. We were supposed to be here for a month with family visiting at different times. The month did not happen due to Covid~19, but the home was a complete delight whether filled with family or quietly with just a couple of us. We enjoyed the journey back to the secluded location, whether on the low road past El Chivo and Il Pepperoni or the high road towards LaGarta Lodge but down to Pelada. I wish we could have remained for our entire stay. It is a continual delight to wake to the call of the birds and the howl of the monkeys. We certainly hope to return soon!

Thank you for your kind words. Sadly they will be the last words for tn3 2020 season as the government has closed off the country to all incoming tourist. 2020 was on record to be the best rental season by far of the 15 years I have owned the two houses. Poof and it’s over. Oh well, time to remodel the kitchen and paint the houses. Remember Pura Vida, cuts both ways.........

Lovely property and incredible location
Our family enjoyed a lovely week in Nosara at Casa de Memphis II. We brought our kids ages 11 and 8 and they loved it. The location is amazing with the beach just a couple minutes walk. The howler monkeys woke us every morning and we enjoyed watching them swing through the trees with babies in tow.
The house is lovely with comfortable beds, a nice open concept and we all enjoyed the pool. We felt safe at all times whether in the house or walking the beach at night. We were careful to keep our valuables locked up and out of sight and kept the doors/gates locked. We did encounter a couple or maintenance issues when we first arrived but Tiffany was great and had things fixed right away. Some of the little things like linens, towels and dishes could stand to be replaced but overall the house was clean and well maintained.
The beach was great for beach combing, tidal pools, swimming and boogie boarding although you have to be aware of potential rip tides. We enjoyed eating at Olga's and La Luna which were both a quick walk along the beach. We were lucky enough to see some baby turtles making their way from nest to water right at Playa Peleda. We also walked to Playa Guiones for surfing and enjoyed the little shops and restaurants there.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and recommend it to families who want to see monkeys and be close to a quiet, swimming beach.

Thank you for your review. Believe it or not your balanced perspective helps me manage the house better than most of the five star reviews. As a result of your comments my wife and I went down to Nosara last week and went through all of the linens. We could not understand why it was that every time we go down there and take new linens, someone would say they needed replacing. Here is what we found out.
The ladies that clean the house are of course local and have been working for me for years. Their perspective on things is different than ours. If a sheet has a stain or a slight tear but would still fit on the bed, all standards met! In fact the first night I was down there my own pillow had both a paint stain and a tear!! All of this was happening while the closet was filled to the brim with brand new replacement sheets and towels that had never been used.
Needless to say we have tried to convey the difference in standards between their’s and the reasonable expectations of guest who invest both their time and money for an experience of a lifetime. Hopefully this issue is behind us, but remember that the first step in solving any problem is being aware of it in the first place and for that we are very thankful.

We enjoyed the property and Sara was great to communicate with. The house was fine and we had everything we needed. The pool was nice at the end of the day. The only negative comment I have is not about this property but of the roads surrounding it. They were horrible and we were very happy we rented a golf cart with off road tires. Almost a must for the time of year we visited. Hopefully something can be done about the state of the roads, but I can see the rains being a challenge.
The house was so close to the beach and had amazing wild life in the backyard. We were walking distance from restaurants. We loved hearing and seeing the howler monkeys every morning.
The location of the house is wonderful, as it is within really close walking distance to the beach. There were a couple of glitches with the Wi-Fi and a leaky roof, but other than that, we had a great time.
Could not have enjoyed our stay more at CDM2 and the Nosara region. Loved being able to walk to the beach for sunsets, relax by the pool and enjoy everything around the town. We'll be back.
The only complaint was all the ants. We stayed in the little casita the first night but after my wife found ants in the bed we had to move into the main house. This may sound like a big complaint but it was just a minor nuisance. The place and location are amazing. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the house manager and the personal chef a 25.

Sorry to hear about the ants. We wish you had said something during your stay as there is a common fix for ants that is highly effective. Please come back and thanks for staying at Casa de Memphis.
Casa De Memphis II is a great place to take the family, for a serene, quiet place to stay, that's just a quick walk from one of the most beautiful secluded magic beaches you'll ever find. Take a quick drive to Nosara and Playa Guiones for organic food, epic surf and a yoga session. You will not be disappointed.
PURA VIDA
The property was very welcoming and clean. We especially enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning while listening to the music of the birds and occasionally Howler Monkeys. The property is less than 150 yards to the beach and is a great place to watch the magnificent Costa Rican sunsets!
We enjoyed our stay at Casa De Mephis II. It is a traditional Costa Rican home and was a comfortable place to stay. We had a 4 wheel drive car, which is a necessity if you stay here, and were happy to visit many of the nice restaurants in area. La Luna, Lagarta Lodge and El Chivo were our favorites. The beaches were lovely and private. Unfortunately we didn't use the casita as planned, due to a noisey family of iguanas living on its roof, but fortunately there were enough bunk beds in the house for all and they were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. Also the pool was the perfect place to cool off after a beautiful day at beach. We miss Costa Rica already!

We enjoyed our stay very much. House was typical of Nosara rentals, and we were well served by it. Heard Monkeys every morning, usually extremely close. You can easily walk to the beach in a few minutes on level ground. Cannot reach the river mouth from this beach entrance however, as there is a large outcropping blocking the way. Pool was nice way to cool of and listen to birds and monkeys.
