We very much enjoyed our stay. Great place to unplug and lay low. Rustic but very comfortable. The island is gorgeous. Note that this is pretty remote. Outside of the other few houses on the island, there’s nothing else on the island (which was a draw for us). Only accessible by boat - we’re not boat owners but were able to easily find a great box taxi.
We’d definitely (and likely will) book again.
Thanks Stan & Elle for sharing your place!
We enjoyed our stay on the island. Lots of wildlife including a great horned owl, gopher tortoises, dolphins and manatees. The house is primitive, but comfortable. There was no oven or microwave, the water pump has a problem so that it would continually trip off during a shower, The toilet cannot handle toilet paper, so toilet paper has to be put in the waste basket. WiFi was not working, The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the screened porch with the hammock. The golf car a must to get to the beach (3/4 mile). Red tide was a problem while we were there, so we didn’t swim and we didn’t see anyone else in the water.
A paradise for those looking to disconnect and relax! The hosts met us at their convenient, private dock with a vehicle to help us haul our gear. Stan was friendly, informative, and very funny! He showed us the property while switching into a delightful dialect that was both relaxing and informative. He also helped up find a captain before our trip (Captain Chris!), find fishing spots, and filled us in on all the important insider knowledge of the island! We loved the golf cart-- it was a blast to explore the island!!The rental itself was perfect for our needs. We are previous Cayo-Costa State Park campers and wanted to enjoy the island with modern amenities. We appreciated the beach gear, food fillers, and fishing advice!! We had absolutely clean everything and the home itself is full of natural light, a beautiful breeze, and rustic charm. We caught fish, explored the island, visited Cornelius, and reconnect as a family in paradise! Our son turned 12 years old in the kitchen of this rental... It is one of the most beautiful memories I have in this world! 5 of 5 stars.Thank you Elle and Stan--
Our family had a wonderful time on Cayo Costa. Stan and Ellie were great and helped answer all of our questions and get us acclimated to the property. We thoroughly enjoyed the beach, shelling, and fishing. Really looking forward to getting back!

Great to hear you had a good time with us. It is truly an isolation vacation destination. We enjoy so much we live sharing the experience with other families like yours which was a pleasure to host. Come back any time. Thank you. Stan and Elle.
After having been to the island a couple of times via ferry for day visits, my 2 friends and I decided to look into the possibility of a place in which to stay for a few nights. Although rough camping sites and even cabins are available, we preferred something a little more “civilized”. Luckily we found this rental, and had a wonderful experience. Having just come from 3 weeks in Key West, the solitude was absolute bliss. Beaches were virtually deserted, the qu

About the host

My wife and I found this little piece of heaven when we came for a vacation to Bokeelia, Florida a few years ago. We had toured Cayo Costa State Park and loved the environment, the beach, and the bay. When we were ready for another vacation, we chose this particular house on Cayo Costa that has its own dock in a quiet canal and a spacious home with lots of outdoor living space with the wrap around deck and roof top observatory that provides 360 degree views of the entire island. We loved our stay so much we decided to buy it for our own use and now want to share the island experience as a vacation rental property.
Why they chose this property
We love being able to walk just 10 minutes to the tranquil beach on the Gulf of Mexico where we go searching for shells along the shore or enjoy great fishing offshore and at the lagoon nearby.
What makes this property unique
Our home on the island of Cayo Costa is one of few that have a private dock where we allow dockage for free to our guests. The home is only within 500' of the dock and 3/4 miles to the beach. We have the best roof top views of the entire island, bay and ocean. The whole house is green friendly as we get most of our power from solar panels with enough energy to run our solar refrigerator and solar powered television as well as the lights. We have plug-ins throughout the house to charge our electronics including cell phones and computers. We use propane gas for cooking on our gas range inside and our Weber grill outside. The whole house generator is used on occasion to run the washing machine but otherwise, not really needed. We get our water from our rain water catchment tanks and we have an under the sink RO system for clean drinking water. As a green home, we are able to live comfortably on this "off-grid" island.
