About the host
Hosted by Barbara Arnold

Spent my summers in Harbor Springs since I was 7 y.o. Have loved it ever since. Learned to play croquet, tennis and to sail on Little Traverse Bay, as well as captain a motor boat. I have two adult children who return to Harbor Springs every summer. We’re all hooked from the memories, experiences and friendships made.
Shopping downtown is fun on a “non-beach day”. Farmer’s Market on Main St weekly in summer and fall seasons. Traveling 20 min to Petoskey for a bigger shopping adventure is available too. Biking, whether above the bluff (level ground) on great bike trail that will take you to nearby Petoskey or biking downtown (uphill challenge on return) is fun. Relaxing on the beach or having a picnic in the park next to the beach with or without a book is a wonderful way to relax while allowing kids to be active swimming to and jumping off the swim raft. If you’re picnicking at the beach you might want to order Gurney’s (on Main St.) sandwiches to go. Yummy! The Candy Haus fudge shop one door away has wonderful sweets of a sorts. Best fudge ever!
Petoskey City Waterfront hosts baseball games, fairs, musical entertainment, a park and a stone pier to their lighthouse on Lake Michigan.
Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob (20 min away) provide golf and snow skiing. Nearby Boyne City (40 min) is near a ski mountain and has an indoor water park.
Little Traverse Conservancy is wonderful for biking and hiking (20 min away) and has a spectacular view of the bay especially at sunset. Bring your chairs, beverages and snacks if you want to enjoy the sunset.
Kayaking and canoeing can be done via The Outfitter (shop) in town. They drop boats at the waterfront boat launch. There is also a ferry to Petoskey that picks up and drops off at the HS boat launch.
I am happy to answer a call re: any questions. My vacation experiences, in HS, in youth and throughout my life are the best I could imagine.
