About this property
The River House - Private 1.6 acre Upper Kenai Riverfront Home - Cooper Landing
The house is located a five hundred yards upriver on the opposite bank from the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge, just upstream the Upper River rapids. The living set up is ideal for a romantic couple, a family of 6 or 4-5 friends. Moose, bear, bald eagles, beavers, goats and mountain sheep are commonly seen from the property. Outside there are plentiful wild raspberries in late summer, an outdoor sauna and wade fishing for Rainbows and Dollies.
Wildlife viewing from the property in May can be fantastic before the river opens for fishing. Bald eagles frequently hunt from the trees in the backyard during the early season. The fly fishing for trophy rainbow trout and Dolly Varden on the upper river is tremendous between July and late October. In late September and October silver salmon begin to spawn in the river behind the house.
The fall season in Cooper Landing is arguably the most beautiful time of the year. As the summer season comes to an end the rainbow trout and silver salmon fishing is at its peak as the deciduous trees turn bright yellow and orange.
The Kenai River is open for fishing between June 11th and May 1st. The ADF&G website is a great source of information on the latest fishing regulations.

Overall very nice, a beautiful and scenic spot. Wish we'd had more time to take advantage of the outdoor firepit! We also appreciated the owner's fishing guide recommendations and had a great day of guided fishing, in addition to fishing along the shore of the backyard.
This was a beautiful spacious home right on the Kenai River. We enjoyed the gorgeous view from the deck, especially seeing the salmon swimming upstream in the river. Wifi fast, very clean house. Everything we needed. Comfy bed.
We had a great time at this cabin. We rented the River and Bear cabin when we had family in town. Everyone had a good time. Very relaxing. There were a lot of bald eagles nearby, up to four at one point. My kids enjoyed fishing in the river. The fireplace overlooking the river was amazing, and the decks really let you relax and soak in the scenery.
Location is perfect. The home is beautiful and clean. Home has everything you might need. We were sorry to have to leave. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
We absolutely loved this cozy home on the beautiful Kenai River! It had everything we needed and more. We loved sitting by the fire watching the aqua blue water float by. We saw eagles and gulls and just breathed in the fresh Alaskan air. We also enjoyed the sauna and stayed up late playing games in the lovely dining area. We would definitely stay here again. It has it all-location, beauty, comfort and space! We felt well cared for.
What a great spot to unwind! The location is even more impressive in person than the pictures show - plus we had the benefit of observing the sockeye spawning in the river which made it that much more stunning. The house was super comfy and well equipped - we appreciated all the inside space and the carport on rainy days and the porch and firepit were amazing when the rain finally stopped. We found lots to do in the area, from guided fishing to fishing right out front, glacier tours in Seward, and exploring Hope and Homer. The owner and property manager were both quick in addressing any questions - we'd 100% come back to this location!
We had a wonderful stay, the pictures and listing were accurate, the wood burning stove was not allowed to be used but we were there in the summer so it really wasn’t necessary. The home and surroundings were amazing
Couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The cabin is just as described and in the middle of paradise. We loved having the Kenai right outside our back door. Such amazing sunsets and a wonderful, welcoming neighborhood. Hosts and housekeeping were exceptional as well!
The photos do not give the property justice even though I have the same photos on my phone. The water, the views, the waterfall baby stream, it was all amazing! The furniture was comfortable and the bathrooms were unique and beautiful. Cooper Landing is a reasonable drive to everything on the peninsula. Thank you for a very nice stay!
WOW. What a beautiful setting. Really enjoyed the deck overlooking the beautiful river. Enjoyed watching eagles, rafters, fishermen. Super comfortable home. Fished Kasilof, Kenai and Lake Clark. Saw bears on fly out trip with Talon Air, highlight of our excursions. Kenai Fjords and Resurrection Bay in Seward. First time trip to Alaska. What a great trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Home was great spot for all our adventures. Highly recommend!! Would love to make it a permanent home, but that’s another dream.
Outstanding property and managers. Could not have asked for more! Right alongside the Kenai River, barely heard any noise from the highway. This place was by far the best property I have ever stayed at. Management answered all questions and more! The washer and dryer were perfect for us! Again, great property, great people and fantastic home base for adventures on the Kenai!
This was a guys trip for three of us and it couldn't have worked out better. The cabin had everything we needed and the location was A++. Modern kitchen/laundry, comfy beds, good tv programming options, nice Weber gas grill, fire pit with Adirondack chairs, updated baths, etc... We fished the Kenai River for several days in multiple locations, and did well for trout and salmon. It was great to come back late day and light a fire in back by the water. We cooked breakfast onsite and had lunches on the river while fishing, but there were several good small restaurants/breweries nearby for dinners. Definitely bring all your groceries from Anchorage or you'll have to drive 30 min to Sterling for supplies. The local convenience store is limited.
We started talking about a return visit while there, so that tells you a lot. The hosts were also great with a few questions we had about the area.
Wow! That really sums up our family vacation at this gorgeous cabin right on the beautiful, blue Keanai river nestled in a quaint town called Cooper Landing. We couldn’t decide on an Alaskan cruise or a relaxing cabin adventure. We chose the latter and I’m so glad we did! Almost every room has a river view. I loved that I can wash dishes and peacefully stare at the river. It was nice and serene with just the family where we intimately connected with our young adult son and teenager. We did a few fishing excursions where we ventured into fly fishing for the first time and caught over 16 Sockeye Salmon at the Kasilof River and 10 Rock fish off the charter boat in Seward. I’ve never seen so many majestic bald eagles. This really was a dream vacation! Thank you Ryan and Robin for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!

Beautiful Place - Weird Experience
The home was absolutely gorgeous and we loved being right on the river with a cute fire pit and beautiful home. We had an interesting interaction with the property manager. We requested early check in and he said we could arrive early and be by the river while they finished up by 3pm (1 hour early). We arrived around 2:30 and were informed of how he had been drinking tequila on his way to the property and it seemed like him and the crew were partying at the house while getting it ready for us. They were Sun bathing on the deck, drawing on each other in the house and asking us what the person drew on them, jumping in the river and running across the yard in underwear. They left and said goodbye and we assumed they would
Be leaving but he freely walked back into the house and almost seemed like they wanted to stay and hang out. Super nice people but very weird and off putting experience when we were wanting to have privacy and relax.

There are few things I enjoy more than floating down the Upper Kenai and few places I find more peaceful than having a cup of coffee in the sun room. I was able to spend the month of September fishing in Cooper Landing for about a decade before owning this property. For any guests that have not experienced September in Cooper Landing, I strongly recommend it.
We have just completed our tenth consecutive rental season and plan to continue renting the house until we retire. We have continually reinvested a minimum of one third of the rental revenue back into the property for the last eleven years.
It is extremely important to us that our guests have a trip of a life time while visiting the River House. We partnered with Jessica Larsen to professionally manage the property during your stay.
Why they chose this property
There are many houses available for rent in Cooper Landing, but few have the privacy and beauty of the River House. It is easy to spend hours in the sunroom staring at the florescent river, surrounding mountains and local birds.
Robins and Bald Eagles are the two most common bird species that can be seen on the property. While the mosquito is dubbed the "Alaska State Bird", between the river breeze and landscaped yard there are very few mosquitos or other biting insects on the property.
We recently added a trail to a fenced river overlook. The views from this overlook are stunning. The short trail crosses a creek that is located on the property and allows you to see 700 yards upstream.
Several of the local guides (year round residents) are very familiar with the River House and have spent considerable time fishing in the backyard. They can pick you up in a drift boat behind the house with no extra charge and spend some time explaining what is happening in the river at the time of your stay.
What makes this property unique
The Upper Kenai river is one of the most beautiful places we have come across. The house is extremely quiet and sits across from the drift only marker on the Upper Kenai (No motors allowed). Just above the property, the river begins to narrow and pick up current. The view from nearly every room in the house is breathtaking. The original house has been featured on the cover of several magazines over the years and was recently chosen for VRBO sweepstakes in 2015. Great effort has been made to maintain the trees on the property, while keeping them maintained to ensure views from all angles.
There are very few properties on the Kenai river with the privacy and scenery of this location. The property has blue spruce, choke cherry, lilac, cottonwood, spruce and birch trees with a landscaped grass yard.
In March and April the property is home to many bald eagles that feed throughout the day on spawning silver salmon. Brown bears frequent the property in May and early June and leave their mark on an annual basis. By late June the bears move a few miles down river to look for spawning salmon. Rainbows and Dollies can be caught easily for most of the summer and fall. In October Silver Salmon can be caught from the backyard.
