About this property

Deer Lake Lodge: A HISTORIC GEM

Imagine disconnecting from the grind of life and treating yourself to the biggest luxury of all: Time.

Escape to Deer Lake Lodge, a historic and cheerful farmhouse where you’ll relax in nature, reflect on life, and restore your soul.

HISTORIC & MODERN
Deer Lake Lodge is a five bedroom farmhouse that started out life as a hunting lodge in the 1920’s and has been lovingly restored over the past three decades while maintaining its rustic charm. A large eat in family kitchen comes with everything you’ll need to prepare a meal including stainless steel appliances and a dishwasher. The dining room table can comfortably seat eight people making it the perfect way to come together for meals. The homey living room features a massive corner sofa and Smart TV. An additional sofa surrounds the wood stove at the far end of the living room for larger groups to break out the board games and chillax.

OUTDOOR LIVING AT ITS FINEST
Two large outdoor porches provide quiet corners to enjoy a quiet cup of tea or coffee while taking in the magnificent view. In the summer gather on the outdoor deck while you cook up a feast on the BBQ or fire up the wood-burning pizza oven. Connect with family and friends as you sit around the campfire escaping from it all while watching “nature’s tv” under the stars.

ROOM FOR ALL
Deer Lake Lodge can comfortably sleep 8 people in 5 cozy bedrooms. On the second floor you’ll find a queen, two doubles, and a twin bedroom. The third floor master is tucked snuggly into the rafters with a comfy king size bed and an ensuite loo. Soaking in the heavenly claw foot bathtub in the main bathroom is a tiny bit of heaven.

NEED TO DO A WORKING HOLIDAY?
Deer Lake Lodge has excellent WIFI and a light filled nook in the attic with a big sky view should you need to work.

AN OUTDOOR PLAYLAND
The Almaguin Highlands is a four season outdoor playland. In the spring, summer and fall visit our artisan galleries and enjoy water sports, hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATVing, and more. With your rental you’ll get a FREE Day Pass to access nearby provincial parks such as Mikisew which is located on Eagle Lake just 10 minutes away. Spend the day on the lake on one of three beaches (including a dog beach) swimming, fishing, canoeing or kayaking, then finish it off with a hike and a round of frisbee golf.

MAGIC AND MAIN STREET
We are a 20-minute drive from South River where you’ll find essential amenities and the Crystal Caves, the biggest mineral exhibit in Canada and the most magical crystal shop you will ever set foot inside, guaranteed. Check out the surrounding artisan village and then head to Sundridge (just another 10 minutes down the road) with a Main Street featuring quaint shops and nice restaurants.

PETS WELCOME
Share your glamping adventure with your furry friend for a $50 pet fee. Your stay comes with a FREE park pass to nearby Mikisew Provincial Park which has a dog beach for your pooch to cool off.

BETTER TOGETHER!
Spent time together as a family or share the lodge with friends, there is lots of room for everyone. Deer Lake Lodge is tucked into a private corner of DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT which has a Geodome, Cabin and Bell Tent. You will have your own driveway and private outdoor space which is completely separate from the sites. As a guest of DEER LAKE WILDERNESS RETREAT you are welcome to use the trails and communal barn which oozes with rustic charm. Ask me how to SAVE 15% when you book more than one site at the same time.

Home away from home
The owner was absolutely fabulous and quick to reply when we had questions. The property was large and quiet with a beautiful view of the night sky in the evenings and the firepit outside was a nice treat! The beds were super comfy and the fans helped keep us nice and comfortable while we slept! Lovely getaway from the city for sure!

Magical Getaway in the Woods
The perfect escape! The lodge is fun, warm and welcoming. A comfy winter opportunity to relax, unwind and recharge with walks in the woods and nearby Mikisew Provincial Park. The interior is beautifully curated and designed with impeccable attention to every little detail. A wonderful work of colour, art and creativity! Sara was responsive and professional. This is a special property and we are grateful Sara was willing to share it with us.

About the host

Hosted by Sara Moore

Host profile image
With the purchase of Deer Lake Lodge in June 2021 I entered an exciting new chapter when I became a glampground proprietor (a.k.a. professional putterer).
I've rebranded it as Deer Lake Wilderness Retreat, and my vision is to create a community where my guests can relax in nature, reflect on life, and restore themselves. Phase A is complete with the establishment of a three site glampground, and phase B will be to introduce workshops with a focus on wellness.

Happy Glamping,

Sara
