With views from nearly every room, Mariposa is a Pura Vida dream property featuring 3 full ensuite bedrooms with ocean views. The large covered back patio/lanai spans the length of the house. Relax on a Chaise lounge next to your private pool or read a book from our collection on a rocking chair. Our upgraded modem supports zoom perfect for remote work escape destination. On top of the views, original artwork and a well appointed kitchen with a Vitamix and Nepresso machine make this a stand out property. Our concierge can arrange tours and in house dining. We also offer in villa medical massage and Rolfing from a European trained therapist. *Please note that the address listed by VRBO is Pez Vela, but we are NOT a part of that community. Rather we are next to the resort and cove of Bahia Pez Vela.

Villa Mariposa sits high above the surf in the Blue Zone called the Nicoya Peninsula minutes from two black sand beaches. Offering the ultimate in privacy, enjoy 200 degree views of Papagayo Bay from the entire resort- like backyard and from the double balconies off the upstairs bedrooms. Enjoy the leather rocking chairs on the covered patio that runs the length of the home or grill up your fresh catch and enjoy al fresco meal at our locally crafted Guanacaste table. Enjoy the local wildlife as you relax in the pool or read a book on a lounger under the thatched hut.

Entrance to the VIlla is stairless. The ground-floor master offers a private bathroom and stairless enjoyment of the villa and with direct access to the long lanai to enjoy the full impact of the view.
Guest access
Our road and driveway are steep but paved. We are minutes to two beaches but you need a car because fabulous views mean elevation. Two restaurants are within 5 minutes. Groceries stores, shopping, and many more restaurants are next door - about 15 minutes.
Other things to note
Our favorite beach, Bahia Pez Vela, (Bay of Sail Fish) is minutes from house by car or a 15 minute walk. You must be in good shape to walk the hills however, so please be aware our area is very hilly. Being semi- private the beach and water are Blue-Flag- meaning pristine. Turn right from our driveway, right to go down the hill and then left. Go through the gate (if they ask tell them you are going to the beach) and continue down towards the Beach until you see a parking lot on the right. In low tide you can snorkel around the rocks -varies by season and tide. You can also access water sports at all the local beaches. The closest are Playa Azul, Ocotal Beach, and Coco Beach.

Loved the property, the view was amazing. The owner was easy to work with and very accommodating. We enjoyed our Costa Rican adventures and just sitting around the pool. I will stay here again.

Overall a very nice property. the views are beautiful and the house is very well equipped. Bedrooms are spacious and AC cools the rooms very quickly. The property managers were very responsive and Al is a very nice guy that we enjoyed talking to. We were a little disapointed that the outdoor speakers did not work, and some of the essentials that are listed as included in the property decription were not in the house. No Shampoo, soap, Paper towels and garbage bags when we arrived, was told that shampoo and soap is not included, but they did deliver some of the other items we requested. Was not a big deal, but if your going to list it as included, then include it.

Absolutely Amazing!!! A Gem in the Heart of Coco

I cannot stress enough to anyone reading this review that this house is amazing. Everything about it was awesome. But the view from the back porch was perfect and the most beautiful picture in all of Coco. The house was clean, everything worked properly (water, electricity, ACs, etc) and the check in process was flawless. Tami, the house host, was extremely attentive to any question or request we had. She offered suggestions as we needed them and professionally answered my 4 million texts. Did I mention the view from the back porch??? Beds were comfortable, every room had a full bathroom, the kitchen was stocked with everything you could need. Espresso machine and regular coffee pot. Had a small issue with sugar ants but that was my fault for leaving out an open box of cereal. Tami was at the house the next morning to drop off a treatment gel to get rid of them. Tons of beach towels available. I mean…the house was stocked and ready to go. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay while enjoying paradise. The pool was a perfect size for 5 of us to relax and play in. Our boys wanted to spend all their time in that. So did we actually. I can tell you that we will for sure be back. Only thing I would suggest would be foot stools in the living room. But that’s because I was there with my family, who takes all the room up on couches, and I’m 6’4” and need my stretch out space. Oh yeah, In case I didn’t stress it enough, the VIEW WAS AMAZING!!!! I could write on and on about this wonderful slice of beauty. I’ll save it for the next review when we go back.

Tropical Paradise- A Slice of Heaven on Earth

This place has the most amazing views. Great pool all to yourself, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, and plenty of space to relax. I loved the two restaurants- Father Roosters and Maracuya- that are just minutes away on the two local beaches. It was also a very quick ride into Coco for all my shopping needs and my boat excursions departed just minutes from the house.

They fell in love with the warm calm waters of the Papagayo Bay and look forward to retiring at Villa Mariposa in a few years. Until then you can enjoy the magic. Amanda is an artist and Expressive Arts Coach and Gary is an Immunologist. They live in Southern California where they also host guests at their mountain home in Idyllwild, CA. They both love nature.

Views, Privacy, Views, Original Art on the walls, Views, Views, Privacy. This isn't just an investment property. This is our home away from home, and we hope you will treat it with the same TLC we do. We love Ocotal because it retains in local culture unlike many of the over touristy locations in Costa Rica. There are offerings of international cuisine, easy shopping, and local culture. We are in easy driving distance of Lake Arenal, Monteverde, and the splendid waterfalls of the Rincon volcano. Many of our beaches are black sand and when under certain conditions, you can snorkel directly off the beach. You can also explore the quiet beaches of the north unknown to most tourists.

Villa Mariposa feels very private with its expansive view but you can actually be on the beach or at Father Roosters in a matter of minutes. Our kitchen is well stocked and our local property management is ready to serve you or leave you in peace, whichever you prefer.
