We have deep roots on the Keweenaw Peninsula and we love sharing the magic here. Our grandfather started his commercial fishing operation at the marina at our place. Our Dad fished from here as well. Now our generation has converted it to a center for hospitality and great vacations. We called it Dockside Resort to celebrate the unique site with a marina, launch and a tiki hut by the docks.
We have a total of four houses, so we can accommodate groups for reunions, weddings, and we host a 4th of July party that is for the records! Fireworks are shot off right off the docks for an awesome effect.
We are a brother and sister pair who are continuing the legacy of our forefathers to make the Keweenaw Peninsula a place for guests to enjoy to the fullest.
We are half way up on the south shore of the Keweenaw so are just an hour from other tourist favorites like Copper Harbor and Calumet and Houghton, Michigan.

Why they chose this property

Our location is magical. Lots of shoreline! Small marina. Lots of lake access.
Grandpa Kauppi chose it for his commercial fishing business. Dad continued expanding it. Then my brother and I took over to convert it to a resort.
The houses were moved to the site from a former Air Force Base that was decommissioned. We have renovated four of them into rustic-luxe vacation homes. The views are jaw dropping.
The docks are great for hanging out. We have ladders for swimmers, a Sandy section for waders, a launch for small crafts, and lots of bang out space with a tiki hut, a stage for live music, and picnic tables.
We provide kayaks, bicycles, and a couple of corn hole games. We offer beach towels in each house for taking to the docks and waterfront.
We are the third generation to keep developing the site. The Breakwall is a giant project. In 2021 it got dressed up with two huge slabs of granite. About 16,000 pounds of granite are bolted to the wall facing the marina. It’s like a mega art installation. The granite came from reclaimed blocks of granite that came from quarries on the east coast. They were sent to the Keweenaw Peninsula by train by the owners of the copper mines. They were used for ballasts for the enormous cranes and hoists that the mines needed for extraction. Bob excavated nearly 30 of these rough cut blocks and had them trucked to our site in 2021. A epic find for a scavenger of local treasures like him.
We have so much history to share. Bob lives in the house by the docks, the Harbor Master's house. Feel free to ask him about the history. He has pictures to prove it!
The former school house in Gay has been converted to a museum. Be sure to make time to stop in there during the summer season.

What makes this property unique

Our location is primo for all types of visitors to the Keweenaw.
Winter folks love that the snowmobile trails run right into our driveway. No need to trailer the sleds the the trails each day. Skiers love that we are just 19 miles to Mount Bohemia. Ski all day then come back to the house for movies and snacks.
Summer folks are thrilled that Lake Superior is basically our front yard. The views are awesome, the access to the water is handy and fun, plus we are just an hour or so from all of the local attractions, like Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins, Brockway Mountain Drive, Calumet Theater, Houghton Michigan where Michigan Technological University offers great sports, culture, museums, and top notch academics.
Lastly the Autumn folks love us because the many maples turn bright red and orange for great color tours and photo opportunities. Nature keeps giving us magic moments and we loved to share them with guests.
