we loved it! Most especially the swing on the porch! Everything was clean and really cozy! There was plenty of supplies! Close to the beach and very private! we would love to do it again!
Arrived at start of nor'easter. Owner texted us to let him know if we needed anything. It was a cozy place with good entertainment to be house bound for a couple days.
House is so cute…just as described. We enjoyed our stay so much…fishing , clamming and laying on the beach. Would definitely recommend this rental property!

Hi Jessica, glad you enjoyed your stay. IF you come back let me know and i can give you a return renters discount!
Enjoyed our stay, walking distance to beach (sound), horseback riding, fishing, crabbing, and ferry to Ocracoke. Is a distance from a large grocery store and restaurants but well worth it for the price and peacefulness of this gem.

Christina, glad you enjoyed your stay on the island!
The house was phenomenal, well equipped with everything you need. Beds and lien were clean and comfortable. Location is within walking distance to the beach, boat ramp, park, and ferry. I absolutely loved the enclosed porch and porch swing while drinking my coffee watching the sunrise.
It had everything we needed. Short walk to the Cedar Island Ranch where we went horseback riding. We took the ferry to Ocracoke for 1 each. We walked there from the house. Very quiet except for the sound of wind and waves. Great place to disconnect. Leave the laptop at home.
Wildwinds Cottage was clean, nicely decorated/ furnished and in good shape. Beds were comfortable and daybed porch swing was heavenly. Kitchen is small and location is away from bigger grocery stores so bring prepared food or groceries in (unless you like longer drives). We loved the quiet area and not very crowded beach. This cottage is ideal for a couple or small family, and the thoughtful hosts have shared books, puzzles, and games. We hope to return!

Drew, thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed your stay!
Our first stay on Cedar Island and we will be back. Beautiful sunsets, perfect little beach (if you are ok with no waves). Take everything you need as it is remote. We greatly enjoyed taking ferries to nearby islands. House was clean and cozy, and a short (10 min) walk to the beach.

The property was clean and well kept. The outside was cleared enough to park and walk around the house but enough flora was kept to keep the birds around for easy viewing. The interior was clean and well laid out. The kitchen was stocked well enough to prepare dinner and all appliances worked. The screened porch was most enjoyable and the swing turned out to be our favorite spot. Good views, easy access to the beach and close proximity to the ferry are a big plus. There is a military live fire range a few miles away. While the noise is not loud at all, at night you will be wondering what “that sound” is. Quiet but just enough to hear. Once you figure out what you are hearing, it is very easy to sleep. I will be returning, this is an enjoyable property.
My husband surprised me with a weekend getaway and we love taking trips to places where we have never been before. Cedar Island was absolutely beautiful! Very quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of everything. The house is easy to get to, offers great parking and has everything stocked that you need for your stay. We both fell in love with the huge porch swing/bed. The owners are extremely responsive and helpful. We had one small hiccup and they were so generous with fixing it.
The house is within walking distance to a restaurant, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding and the ferry. We went on a sunset horseback ride with the Cedar Island Resort stables and it was absolutely amazing!
Highly recommend this house and location! We will be back soon.
A great spot but a little more info would have been helpful
We had an amazing time and this was a great location! So close to the beach, very comfy for our family of 4, and the porch was the perfect spot for all our meals and post-beach relaxation. The only thing I’ll flag for future renters is that I felt like the supplies at the house were really limited, and given how remote the area is it would have been helpful to know that ahead of time. We were only given 1 roll of toilet paper, half a roll of paper towels, 1 spare trash bag, and really limited dishwasher detergent. Most places we’ve rented have more available and those that do not provide extra supplies usually make it very clear in the description or check-in information. We’d stay here again so it wasn’t a huge deal, but wanted to flag for future renters.
This was our third trip to Cedar Island, so we had realistic expectations. If you are unfamiliar with Cedar Island, and you are expecting a typical outer banks type experience, you may be disappointed. Cedar Island is remote, and it's mostly nature preserve. Depending on the season, there are persistent and pervasive mosquitoes anywhere other than the beach. Bring reliable bug repellent. The main attraction on the island is the beautiful, natural beach with calm, shallow water, which is great for kids. You can also book a beach-side horseback ride at the local campground (somewhat expensive, but a very nice experience). There is one store, a gas station/general store that also has scooped ice cream. Dollar General is about a 17 minute drive; big box store is 45 minutes. Bring food, bring essentials, bring beach towels, don't expect good wifi or cell reception. Instead, plan to unplug and enjoy nature. The bug-free, crowd-free beach is a short walk. Hunting, fishing, and kayaking are other options. There's a ferry that goes to Ocracoke if you're looking for a more touristy island. The cottage is wonderful, clean, and roomy. The porch was lovely at night. The price was incredibly reasonable and convinced us to rent this over a hotel room. There was a scheduling error, and the owner graciously credited us an extra night when we had to book a night at the hotel. We would love to stay here again and would definitely recommend this rental.

We are a busy family that enjoys whatever time we can find to be outdoors, especially at the beach. Finding a place where we can get away from our hectic days, enjoy being together, have adventures and relax has been an absolute dream.
Why they chose this property
We have looked at numerous properties over the years trying to find a place that suits our whole family. For Robert, who loves to fish, Cedar Island has yet to let him down. This is his favorite place to fish in all of North Carolina. For his wife, Mellissa, having wild beaches to walk along, take morning jogs or just sit with her tea and listen to the waves while watching all the wildlife has been an absolute dream. Our middle school-aged girls love running through the surf, marveling at the wildlife and taking regular trips to Islands Choice market! We all love kayaking and Cedar Island offers unparalleled adventures.
What makes this property unique
Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge is a unique coastal environment that is a nature-lover's dream. Wildwinds Cottage is walking distance from the Cedar Island ferry which takes you to Ocracoke. If you are looking for more in the way of shopping and dining, then we are a short drive from Beaufort and Morehead city.
