About this property
*Best Location* Haus + Cabin 1 block 2 Main HOT TUB and Firepit EV Charger
The main home is Pioneer Haus which was built on this property in 1848 and was one of the first homes built in the budding town of Fredericksburg by the Kneese family who had recently immigrated from Germany. The main living area maintains the rustic charm of the wood and plaster walls that have withstood the test of 175 years. An early meeting place of the Methodist Church, the home has seen several additions and hosted many notables over the years of use.
It now features a full kitchen with a functioning vintage reproduction stove with six burners and an oven. A well worn cast metal sink serves current occupants as it did many generations before. Enjoy a meal in the dining room hewn from native Stonewall limestone rock which stays naturally cool in hot Texas summers. Modern amenities also complement the kitchen including a microwave, a toaster and a coffee maker.
The haus + the cabin can accommodate 9 people with a large primary bedroom with a king size bed, another bedroom with a queen size bed, and a third bedroom with both a queen size bed and a single bed. The cabin has a queen size bed and an en suite bathroom. The master bathroom has a large walk-in shower and the second bathroom has a tub/shower combination. The home combines period antiques with modern clean elements. Crisp, quality linens make for comfortable sleeping. The ancient wood floors evoke a warmth from past generations. Provided are all the comforts of modern life such as Wi-fi and streaming TVs inside. The outdoor firepit and grill allow for enjoying the private yard space and creating memories with loved ones. The property is directly across the street from the Gillespie County Historical Society Museum and also diagonally across the street from St. Mary's Catholic Church making it very convenient for anyone attending events at either of these popular destinations. The location is very walkable to all of Main Street with a myriad of restaurants, shops and event venues
When rented together, the addition of the Pioneer Cabin increases the number of people accommodated to 9. The cabin in back affords privacy and an additional bathroom while still sharing the property with Pioneer Haus.
Both Pioneer Haus and Pioneer Cabin can be rented separately, so please look for our listings for those properties if they would individually suit your needs better than the two properties combined.

About the host
Hosted by Cindy Nelson

With long ties to Fredericksburg, Texas, the owner of this property is the Great-great grandchild of one of the early settlers of this historic town. Having sailed on the "Element" from Germany, he became one of the first school teachers while also making a living as a wine maker, inventor, furniture maker, composer and music teacher. Jacob Brodbeck was a true pioneer in many aspects.
Why they chose this property
We wanted to be closer to our roots in this historic town. We love the friendly atmosphere with so many fun events and activities to choose from. Almost everything is walkable from our location and we feel connected to the heart of the community here.
What makes this property unique
You are not just booking a generic rental, this home is a piece of Hill Country history. Early settlers gathered in the living room for meetings and worship services. The Kneese family was a pillar of the community and members of the family still live in Fredericksburg to this day. You will immerse yourself in the details of the Pioneer Haus; from the hand hewn stone work to the original windmill which still graces the backyard and powered the water well for the past 175 years to the square nails that hold the current pictures on the walls. These are the details that can not be reproduced by a more modern home. As one of the first homes in the area, the prime location can't be beat. It has a private feel behind the automatic gate while being close enough to town to park and walk to most attractions. Come experience history!
