About this property
Smokey Mountain couple's retreat
Our place is nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains on top of a mountain in a small gated community. A perfect place for lover's to get a way and forget life for awhile. The chalet is above a oversized detached garage. 1200 square ft. It has a spacious living room with a 3D TV and a nice size kitchen with custom cabinets and granite counter tops. If you like to cook like we do, there's pretty much everything you need.
The house features a master bedroom with queen sized bed. The living room has a couch with a pull out sofa sleeper. The house is totally updated with granite counter tops, high end appliances and hard wood floors.
From the rear deck, it has a spectacular 165° view East to West. Seeing over 3 states (GA, NC, TN) is just the beginning. Sunrises and sunsets are totally amazing. Inside is a bit rustic yet has elegant touches. It's not heaven, but you can see it from here.
Downtown Murphy is 12 minutes away. Harrah's Cherokee Valley casino and John C Campbell folk school is about 15 or so minutes. If you're into the outdoors look no further. There's plenty of hiking/biking trails to choose from. Fly fishing, is also a favorite amongst locals here. If you're water people, there are lakes and boat rentals available spring through fall months. Tubing is huge at the Nantahala gorge. If you're into adventure this is a must do.

The home was very comfortable to stay in .The views from the deck were unbeliveable. The home was actually perfect. It had everything I needed. The hosts were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
What a beautiful piece of property! We spent 2 nights here for a friend's birthday/girls get away weekend and it was PERFECT. The views are breathtaking and it could not have been more perfect. Gary and Pat were very accommodating and responded to anything we needed right away.
Communication with property manager was great. The home was beautiful way beyond expectation. The view was so beautiful loved watching the sunrise and sunset.
This place is perfect for taking a class at John C. Campbell Folk School. It's 20 minutes away from the school, but a million miles from the crowds. I love it and will come back again snd again.
Amazing, I have never stood on a deck and looked down at the clouds before. Gary and Pat were wonderful hosts and the property was great. I strongly recommend this location to anyone who wants to stay in this area.
If you're looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind stay in Murphy, NC to enjoy the mountains in a relaxing environment this is it! Located on the very top of a private mountain, the views are spectacular. The accommodations are clean, comfortable, and roomy for two people. We highly recommend this property and would stay here again. Thank you!
Love the early morning and evening views and birds singing. Home was comfortable, clean, homey with everything you might need. Beautifully landscaped. Loved the large American flag waving high on the Mtn.Close to several antique/flea markets if u enjoy that like we do. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your great place.
Super easy check in and check out. Any question I texted to Gary was answered within minutes. This is located in a gated, private community and is very safe & quiet. When they say “top of the mountain” they mean it. We have NEVER had the views we had here. The chalet had all that we needed then some extras that came in handy like the heater in the bathroom ceiling and the cooler in the closet that we used for a picnic when we took the 1.5hr drive to Cherokee to see Mingo Falls (a must) & Clingmans Dome (now Kuwohi). You won’t have any regrets renting here. We took the BlueRidge Scenic Railway tour and did hiking in several directions. If we could give more than 5 stars we would!
My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend at this property and it was absolutely perfect! The property is gorgeous, with stunning views that made our stay truly memorable. The hosts thought of everything, providing a fully stocked kitchen that made cooking easy and enjoyable. The rental was spotless and incredibly well-maintained, offering the perfect blend of seclusion and tranquility.
Despite the peaceful setting, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we were also just a short drive away from a beautiful river walk and downtown area, filled with local restaurants, unique shops, and great breweries. It was the best of both worlds!
We highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
The hosts, Pat and Gary has their act together. Nice place, clean, just right in the furniture and amenities, instructions and and directions are perfect (just read them and follow as they are perfect, don't use your dash mounted GPS as you will be driving on a wash outed private drive way.)
Will stay again.
Make plans to get up early and watch the sunrise. It changes and we'll worth it.
This property was everything it says and so much more. The views are spectacular…I watched the sun rise and set. Viewing the clouds at the lower elevations was beautiful and Pat informed me they call it “mountain meringue”!
Pat and Gary are the kindest, friendliest hosts I’ve met and I’ve rented many cabins/chalets!
I would recommend this amazing place to anyone.
Everything you would possibly need is provided and it was immaculate! Murphy is a quiet, quaint town close to so many things to do and see!
Hoping to return.
Pat and Gary…”thank you” doesn’t seem like enough!
The retreat is beautiful. Just the homey feel we needed for a weekend getaway!! It is fully stocked with whatever you need from the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom!! The views are second to none!! The view of looking down on the clouds is unforgettable!! We can’t wait to come back!!
Everything was great...views, amenities, convenience, weather, leaves, sunsets, beautiful and tasteful accommodations.

About the host
Hosted by Gary Carter
I am semi retired. Born/raised in Florida. Worked for the local newspaper for 33 years. I am now a volunteer fire fighter for our community. My wife is in medical billing and works from home. On our off time we hike, bike and boat. We also love to cook and do a lot of get togethers with family and friends.
Why they chose this property
During my childhood, my grandparents owned a vacation cabin deep in the woods of Franklin NC. We (me, my parents and my brothers) would travel to vacation for 2 weeks a year. There we would hike, snow ski and just explore the great outdoors that we didn't get in the big city.
What makes this property unique
This place is unique in the sense of its extreme views. Rural yet close to many parks, lakes, bars and restaurants. And being on top of a mountain has its advantages and disadvantages. With extreme views comes with extreme weather. Most of the year is absolutely beautiful. Yet, when it rains it pours. The drive up to the chalet for some people, can be a li'l scary. Especially for those who are used to flat, straight roads. Keep in mind the roads are well paved and safe. Once you are here you'll soon forget about the drive up.
