About this property
Charming family-friendly South Haven 4 BR home, Walk to town & 3/4 mile to beach
Summer Calendar open with availability for the following timeframes:
May 27 to June 2, 4 day min.; then June 16 to July 17, with 5-6 day min., including the week of the 4th of JULY open!; then August 25th onward.
You will feel right at home in this remodeled 4 bedroom 2 bath home with multiple outdoor spaces in downtown South Haven! The large back deck, with grill, and fully fenced back yard and fire pit are perfect for enjoying time with family and friends after a day at the beach. Have fun playing a game of corn hole, sitting on the back deck or relaxing in the 3 season front porch.
Downstairs you will find 1 (Q) bedroom and 1 full bath. Upstairs are 3 additional bedrooms (Queen bed + flip-chair/sleeper; Queen bed; and Full/Twin bunk bed) and 1 full bath. Our bedroom sizing is cozy. There are additional smaller sleepers (flip-chairs) in the main upstairs BR (as indicated) and in a 1st floor bonus room behind the kitchen to allow for options depending on the nature/ages of those in your group.
Should you desire to cook meals in, you will find a fully stocked kitchen with updated appliances and all the conveniences of home, along with a dining area with seating for 10 (+ a breakfast counter nearby). If a long day at the beach has you wanting to dine out, we are located (.4 mi) to downtown (our home to the area near "Tello")-- approximately an 8-9 minute walk. The downtown will provide you with several restaurant options (Taste, South Haven Social House, Black River Tavern, Tello, Clementine's, the Idler, Captain Lou's, Sophie's Steakhouse, Six Chicks and others like South Haven Brewpub, Admiral Jacks, New Holland Brewery Tasting Room, etc.).
This remodeled Dutch colonial has 1920's roots and upgrades for modern times. Central air conditioning, all new windows, refinished floors, and a great decor will have you enjoying your vacation inside and out!
The home is located near Jaqua Realty (their Broadway location) & is a .85 mile walk to the blue stairs at South Beach (16-17 min. slow walk) and approximately 1.2 mile from North Beach. You'll likely prefer the drive if you have beach gear, but the beach is reachable for an evening stroll to catch a sunset.
Day trips might include St. Joseph (Silver Beach- 25 minutes); Saugatuck (20 minutes); Holland, MI (Tulip festival, etc.- 30 min.); New Buffalo, MI (45 min.); Grand Rapids (50 min.); Paw-Paw Lake (18 min.) Kalamazoo (50-55 min.); skiing (Timber Ridge, 35 min.; Bittersweet, 42 min.); micro-breweries, wineries & distilleries galore (within 20-60 minutes, many options).
Booking periods/options:
For 2023, we have implemented 5-day minimum rental periods starting in later May to mid-June and 6 or 7-day minimums during the prime rental season (mid July to mid-August). We switch back to 5-day minimums in Mid-August through September and then to 3-day minimums in October for wine-trail weekends!
This house was new to VRBO as of the summer of 2022 and was previously a successful rental on a competing platform with 80+ reviews of 4.9 stars on that platform (see QR code at end of photos to direct to reviews from previous rental platform, whereas newer VRBO reviews are located on this site). While we are new(er) owners of the property, we hope to continue a tradition of excellence!
Guest amenities:
Beach equipment/gear provided: beach chairs, beach cart, umbrella, wagon, towels & some toys as well.
Outdoor toys including corn hole & others items in our small shed.
Two (2) Flip-chairs/small sleepers + Twin double blow up mattress (high-profile)
Child friendly items: baby gates, pac n' play, booster chair.
Games & DVDs in the LR; TV in both upstairs BR and LR. LR TV has access to your streaming and can "cast" from your own cable-app (we cast from our Xfinity account when in town).

About the host
Hosted by Jen & Brian O'Sullivan
Our family lives outside Chicago and has enjoyed all that Southwest Michigan has to offer for many years. My husband has dreamed of owning property in Michigan for 30+ years, since his early experiences with family and friends in the Upper Peninsula. We enjoy South Haven and St. Joseph and the surrounding areas greatly and hope to share this appreciation with others in the years to come!
This property was purchased for personal use of the owners-- thus, this is our home! As long as others continue to appreciate and respect our 2nd home, we plan to continue to share the property in periods where our family is unable to enjoy (which is most of the summer these days with teenage sports)!

Why they chose this property
We appreciate the central location to both downtown South Haven and South Beach. Downtown is less than a 10-minute walk. The beach is close enough that you can take the (longer) walk if you like, bike or drive if you prefer. We often bike to the beach or we drop off a car at the paid beach parking area in the a.m. (with gear), walk back and bike/stroll to the beach at our leisure.
What makes this property unique
Recent Improvements:
Fire pit built, full fencing installed, new LR furniture & beds.
Suggestions:
If you have a boat, Paw Paw (1000 acre all-sport lake) is less than 20 minutes away, as well as Lake Michigan for the adventurous types! There is a public boat launch (well, 9-10), public slips available for rent, etc.
To vary your routine, you can explore North Beach as well (the area North of the river)-- it takes some meandering to get there and you may need to bike/drive, but it is only about 1.2 miles away. Then, there are several smaller beaches north of North Beach to include Woodman, Dykman, Packard & Oak. These are actually closer to the house (via the roads) than North Beach. Otherwise, Silver Beach in St. Joe is a large beach. If you wish to explore other restaurants and downtown areas, both St. Joseph & Saugatuck/Douglas are great. We enjoy dune rides near Saugatuck, the Star of Saugatuck and Saugatuck Hark Duck Adventure. You can drive a bit south to the Warren Dunes (40 minutes). There are obviously numerous opportunities for exploring microbreweries and wineries within 30-45 minutes (including our favorite, Three Blondes in South Haven, as well as Harbor Light in the downtown area of SH).
The home is close enough such that you or the kids can walk back if the heat of the day gets to be too much (do note it is about 16-17 minutes though to either So. or No. Beach). We often drive to the beach, drop off gear and my husband returns the car if parking near South Beach is tight (we sometimes have two cars at the house which makes this process easier).
