So come visit the Pontificator`s Perch, where the view is always worth the climb. Perched atop Slatemont Mountain at an elevation of 3274 feet, the journey up may be steep, but the reward is incomparable. Step onto the wrap around deck and be greeted by the crisp, mountain air and uninterrupted vistas. This is the perfect spot for both family and pets, with a spacious deck and covered porch for everyone to enjoy. Soak up the serenity as you curl up with a good book and your favorite drink, or take your furry companion for a hike on one of the nearby trails. This location does NOT have AC, so if outside temps are more than 80 degrees, expect it to be warm on the upper master bedroom level. The main level and lower level will be better and the breeze outside is usually pretty good. Don`t want you to come stay and then be upset when it`s hot in the summer. Then again, if you`re cold natured, this is the spot for you when it`s warm outside. 😊

4 - You`ll be staying in a cabin in the woods. We apologize now if bugs make it into the cabin between cleaning and your arrival. That`s just cabin life. We have pest control service, but the bugs are smarter :)
5 - Keep it clean. When you leave it should look the same as you entered, with the exception of bed linens and towels
6 - Remember it`s our home, so treat it with respect

The property is perfect for a mountain getaway. The house was clean, comfortable, and kids & dog approved. The views are amazing! We enjoyed the close proximity to so many activities and the highly recommend the Buffalo Mountain hike which was perfect for the entire family.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pontificator's Perch! The location was very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and for exploring the area. The house was nicely appointed, comfortable and had lots of room, and the view from the deck was amazing.

Quick Overnight Stay

Just needed a place to rest for a night but woke to the most beautiful long distance view. We stayed up top in the trees and it felt like we were in a tree fort! This would be great for families. We brought our big dog and he enjoyed the fact that he could run around on the plentiful decks (with gates) without us worrying about him.

Pat was a great host for this property. She was excellent to communicate with throughout the stay. Property was in great condition, extremely clean and pet friendly and didn't smell of pet odors. The views from this property are amazing with multiple decks for enjoyment. Close to both nearby wineries, the mill, and less than 30 minutes to Floyd by the BRP.

Family Weekend Getaway

We really enjoyed the views of the home and was the best part of the cabin. There isn't any AC in the house which was difficult for our 5 year old and parents over the age of 70 in middle July. The guest bedroom was a lot smaller than the pictures showed. The basement seemed very outdated and somewhat of a wasted space.

Just what we wanted

We wanted a unique mountain cabin to stay in on an East coast road trip we were on and this place was exactly what we wanted and exactly as described. The road to the house is a bit steep but we made it with our loaded 2wd Ford transit van with bikes on the back. A nice secluded weekend getaway spot for sure. Our host was super responsive as well.

Why they chose this property

There's no place like home, except here.
The living space, on the second floor, includes a unique slab dining table and plenty of windows.  Enjoy the gas fireplace, or open all the windows for a steady breeze.    The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of utensils, plates, etc.   Also, on the second level you'll find our guest bedroom with a full/twin bunk and a 2nd full bath.  The upper level hosts the master bedroom with a unique full size bed and full size bath.  Enjoy your own deck, with table and chairs to enjoy your morning coffee or evening beverage.  On the lower, entry level, there is plenty of room to stretch out, enjoy Netflix and Prime Video on a spacious sectional.  It also includes a 3rd full bath and laundry.
