Thank you so much for taking the time to review the property. As the owner of this special property we enjoy sharing it with folks who love or want to get to k is the Santa Cruz Mountains. We understand that we are not comparable with hotel rooms or invested flip homes. Still to compete management companies and beach properties for placement in web search engines we depend on folks like you who discover us, and want to share their enjoyment and fun. You were a joy to host, and that is what keep us sharing.
Lovely house amongst the trees in Ben Lombard. Hosts were attentive and responsive. Jacuzzi was a warm respite at the end of the day. Short drive to Santa Cruz boardwalk.

We are always excited to find great people who share our love of thenSanta Cru Mountains. Thank you for being wonderful guests, keeping us I informed and taking such great care of the home to it can co time to be enjoyed by others.
We had a lovely time at this beautiful home in the Santa Cruz mountains! Although it was just my husband and myself, the house is large enough for a group with generous indoor and outdoor seating and dining options. We took advantage of the BBQ and hot tub every night. Sitting in the tub looking up at the brilliant stars was amazing! The master bed is very comfortable, and the kitchen is spacious and offers everything you could need for food prep. The property is large and nicely well maintained. Breakfasts on the deck watching the turkeys with their little ones was a great way to start each day. We enjoyed visiting Henry Cowell park, but be aware dogs are not permitted on all trails. It's def worth going but you might also enjoy the dog-friendly trails at Loch Lomond. We had a great lunch at the Grove Cafe & Bakery in Felton after visiting the charming covered bridge. A walk/hike around the harbor in Santa Cruz ended at Aldo's which serves excellent seafood on the water at a reasonable price. Seriously, why stay at a busy hotel when you can have this little paradise all to yourself? I highly recommend it!

We are so appreciative of the time you took to write this thoughtful review. Thank you. Just tonight I was looking at the seed catalogue and wondering about ordering 5 pounds of lupine seed for the meadow recalling how my last attempt did not get me very far but did provide a feast for the flock of turkeys that patrolled the yard for days and days.
The kitchen was very well equipped. We celebrated the holiday and had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The rooms were nice. Dining area a little small. If the bathroom with a bathtub could be used as a shower that would be helpful. All in all a very nice stay

Nancy, thank you for taking the time to review the Ben Lomond Bungalow. We are so appreciative of you selecting our property for your special time and helping to set expectations for future guests. We completely agree with you, the dinning room is indeed small as the limited space provided by a 1,000 sq ft home is dedicated to other rooms such as the kitchen. This is why we’ve worked to create wonderful places to eat outside on the deck on in the meadow room during times of good weather. For special dinners sometimes the library bin the old boat barn makes a beautiful much larger dinning space with advance notice.
Jessica that you for taking the time to review. Fall is coming and it is probably the prettiest time in the Santa Cruz mountains and beach. The temps are comfortable, the sky is usually very blue, the fog is rare, the sea mammals are migrating off shore and the rain has not started. We hope you will tell your friends every month is a great time to visit Ben Lomond Bungalow.
Stunning Property and warm inviting home. The beds were comfortable and soft. The house had every amenity that you could need. We were only there for a short stay so we didn't have a chance to use the hot tub nor deck but it was stunning. QUIET. Peaceful. The shower in the hall bathroom was odd as a bathtub with a shower attachment one meter high above the bottom of the tub. It was European. This would be ideal for small children! It wasn't a big deal; we all used the bigger shower in the Master bedroom instead. The house was VERY nice. The owners were very responsive. We would stay here again.

Thank you so much for penning a thoughtful and informative review. You noticed one of the challenges to create a space of 1,000 sq as comfortable for a peaceful escape for two as well as a base for larger groups to relax after a busy day exploring all the cost and mountains have to offer and still keep the attributes of the home I hope to return to one day soon. I love our long 70 year old tub but dislike shower enclosures. Understanding not every one likes to take baths we borrowed a shower idea from Robert’s research in SriLanka and build a garden shower with a black pebble and IPE floor and rosemary hedge wall. The hand held shower wands are found in both the outside shower as well as the hall bathroom tub. Bubble Bath is found in the cabinet.
This house is great! We stayed here with our family for vacation and the location is perfect for everything you could ever want to do in the area. Every day we saw tons of animals and the house was stocked with everything you could possibly need for your vacation!

A great location for the Santa Cruz area. We enjoyed rivers, lakes, forest walks, train rides, and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk all within 20-30 minutes from our stay. The house was amazing and very roomy. Great out door patio and the hot tub was the perfect end of the day rejuvenation. Great place to visit.

Annamaria, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. The central coast is indeed blessed with so many wonderful things to see and do. We are very lucky to be situated in a place with excellent roads that are normally not congested that lead to many different parts of the coast as well as places within Santa Cruz County. The Santa Cruz Mountains are magical even during the winter, we hope you return to check in out.
Such a lovely property in a beautiful location. The hosts were available and attentive from check in to check out. Be sure to visit the majestic redwoods in nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park!

Matthew thank you for the enthusiastic review. We also love the outdoor shower, especially in the late afternoon to see how the light hits the Bonny Doon Montains. We are looking forward to hearing more about the University.
The house is comfortable and interesting. The hosts have lots of suggestions for things to do in the area and farther afield. The garden is amazing with at least two incredible heritage oak trees and many beautiful spaces to sit and enjoy the outdoors. Everyone loved the swing. The friendly neighborhood dogs welcomed us but were not seen again until we were leaving.

We look forward to your return when you have the opportunity to explore the trails, star parties, music venues, and museums. Our housekeeper takes pride in their work and lets us know which guests are welcome back and we heard praises.
The hosts were super communicative and responsive to any questions we had before and during our stay. The property grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. We really enjoyed unwinding in the garden after long days exploring all of the adventures the area has to offer.

Tina, your enthusiasm for the area and your son makes my job easy, we were delighted to host you both and look forward to your return and to your discovery of what is new. One of the best things about the central coast is the magic year round from the winter storms to the bright green grasses in the spring, summer adventures and crisp clear fall skies.
We were in area for wedding and it was the perfect place to stay for 2 nights. My In laws enjoyed taking pics of the local birds and walking the yard

We enjoyed our stay at the Ben Lomond house. Got to see a family of deer in the meadow and heard wild turkeys off in the distance. The house was very comfortable and clean. Our dog Tucker especially liked the fenced in deck and yard so he could play off leash.

Joyce, we love hearing about our guests having a wonderful time. OurBasset Hound and Aussie also like to hold court on the deck. It is really the only time they are not velcro dogs. I think there are so many things in the meadow to watch that it is that much more interesting than napping under my desk. I am always amazed at the brilliant green grass that waves in the meadow during the spring.
We had a great time and especially enjoyed all the outside space. Wild turkeys were an extra treat!

We just happen to have a couple of midweek days open this month if your cabin fever sets in. Or, winter storms in Jan can be amazing in the mountains. If the power goes out, we still have gas and lots of battery operated candels.
Everything was clean when I arrived and it was really easy to get settled in. I really enjoyed the hot tub and the outdoor shower was really great for rinsing off afterwards. There was easy access to the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains and my friends and I enjoyed hanging out in some of the small surrounding towns. I highly recommend staying here!

About the host
Hosted by Lolly and Lindley
Architecture, Anthropology, the Sea, and History; we love to travel. Our family enjoyed the central coast region for more than a century. Professor Emeritus Lindley is collecting faux columns to erect a folly in the woods. Lolly laid down her trowel and scuba tanks due to a change in health but is never bored. We met working on an underwater excavation in the Mediterranean and spent three decades exploring the world together. Please feel free to explore our library at the house.
Why they chose this property
Many of our neighbors shared this short private road for more that 40 years. The Oak Tree is AMAZING, as are the hundreds birds daily who come to rest and feed on acorns. We chose this property partly because of the open flat sunny meadow surrounded by forests with distant mountain views and partly because the geology is as varied in each direction as the potential activities nearby. We can easily access any place we want to go in Central Ca. including Lake Tahoe with all good roads and easy driving.
Ben Lomond is a place that defines California Central Coast living at its best. The line between indoor and outdoor living spaces dissolve. Now you have the chance to enjoy our hard working great neighbors, trails, and access to everything on the central coast including the zip line at Mt Herman as you move from platform to platform through the treetop canopy.
If you are looking for crowds, noise, fog, and traffic -- you will not find it here. We are tranquility, blue skies, white fluffy clouds, bird song, deer, wild turkeys and brilliant starlight. Once in the house you may not want to leave but the redwood forests, beaches, and cities of San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, San Jose, Palo Alto and Sunnyvale are all with in reach.
On the mountain, two miles from our country retreat is a venue for quality music at the Felton Music Hall, or Henfling's, both serving casual fare. For a little more local color you might want to check out the Old Log Cabin Bar (sometimes there is a friendly Macaw or a 3 legged dog). Legendary are the ghosts that haunt the main dining room of the Brookdale Lodge, a place I visited for the first time with my grand-mother in 1965. There is a brook running through the terraced dining room (currently being remodeled).
Fishing license and small craft rentals are available at Loch Lomond or the Santa Cruz Wharf as well as other places around the county we can help you find.
What makes this property unique
Possibly the oldest Oak Tree on the coast. Arborist estimated 350 years, with a 10,000 canopy is a home to an assortment of animals. The outdoor meadow room, the fruit trees, grape vines, herbal garden, and a meditation zone are all created for you to have the best possible mountain experience. Enjoy your barbecue on the deck or patio under the shelter of the pergola and stars.
Behind the property you will find Quail Hollow Ranch, an equestrian park first developed by the founders of Sunset Magazine as their weekend home. The trails around the ranch lead you past a pond, year round streams and a host of wildlife. The sunset trail above our home leads to a panorama vista overlooking the coast and nearby valleys.
The rich and varied history of the region is recognized as one of the most significant biological treasures in the state of California, the Zyante Sandhills Zone support a unique community of plants and animals found only in Santa Cruz County.
We are close to many state parks and the redwood trees beaches and fun and creative shopping areas. We look forward to sharing our list of fun places to play and eat; however, if you are not able to escape leave work, satellite conference rooms and office space is available within two miles. Our home office (the old Goat Barn) can be made available with advanced reservation at an additional fee.
