About this property
Christmas week now available!! Spend Christmas at the barn.. rare opportunity!
The Lake Superior Barn is a 4,250 sq. foot home with 4 bathrooms and accommodations to easily sleep 20 people in the 6 bedrooms and 15 beds…. lakesuperiorbarn.com. (see more here.) It is designed to accommodate multiple families with open bathrooms and individual toilets and showers. The home is just 30 minutes east of Duluth on the sandy south shore of Lake Superior.
Lake Superior Barn rests on 320 acres of remote wilderness and a sandy beach. The home sits on the south shore of Lake Superior, staring across the lake to the North Shore cities of Duluth and Two Harbors whose lights twinkle in the distance at night. The property is completely surrounded by the Brule River State Forest so there is not another home on the Lake Superior shoreline for miles… Enjoy the secluded sandy beach or walk it like an ocean looking for beach-glass. Listen to the waves crash or swim in the cleanest of all the Great Lakes where the temperature can reach 60 or 70 degrees in the shallow, sandy bottom water. Warm up to a driftwood fire or roast s'mores on the waterfront.
Once back to the house, wash the sand off your feet in the outside shower while taking in the 180 degree view of Lake Superior. Enjoy the 1600 sq foot reclaimed deck just outside the beautiful kitchen and a pantry with all the extra ingredients and spices you may have forgotten. Build a fire with firewood provided in the stone fireplace or have a fire on the bluff watching the sun set or lay in a bean bag and pick a book to read from the stocked bookshelves in the loft. Lake Superior Barn has 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 showers built from the reclaimed lumber, steel and iron nails of 7 turn of the century Minnesota barns. The game room has radiant concrete heat to warm your toes as you play ping pong, shuffle board or lounge on the couch to watch a movie or TV.... Star Link Wi-Fi is provided. The Lake Superior Barn is a unique and rustic experience... yet there is a Roku TV and Wi-Fi to stream movies or sports, and also plenty of cards, books and boardgames!
The Lake Superior Barn sits on 320 private acres of forest, wander deer trails or swim in Haukkula Creek that flows the length of the property. Pick raspberries and wild strawberries in the summer or snowshoe the woods and trails in the winter… either way, you will never encounter another person on the private and secluded land. End the day by building a fire while overlooking Lake Superior and watch the summer sun set over the hills of Duluth.
Close to areas like the Duluth, the Apostle Islands, Bayfield and the scenic South Shore of Lake Superior... or canoe the Brule River... the Lake Superior Barn is a remote getaway from a hectic life.

It was a nice property. I didn’t realize the lake wasn’t right off the back yard, you have to walk down a trail behind the property but they had a path cleared out to get down there.
We spent the Labor Day weekend and the following week here. We enjoyed our time in this very unique property; it is truly is one of a kind. The views of Lake Superior are very nice, and the stars at night are just incredible. When we explored the beach, we found sea glass on almost every occasion. It is an extremely relaxing atmosphere and one can certainly unwind and appreciate the surroundings. Thank you for sharing the Barn with us.
We had a small wedding reception at the Barn. Everything was wonderful. We were so impressed by the attention to detail and the beautiful decor. The property invited family time around the large table and fire place but also had many magical spots where you can enjoy solitude. The hot tub and sauna were treats in the evenings or early morning hours when temperatures dropped. The grounds were filled with fruit trees, flowers and the walk to the beach felt like a little adventure. Plenty of space for everyone. The kids enjoyed the game room and cuddled up to watch movies in the evening on the oversized sectional couch. We truly feel blessed that we got to celebrate with everyone we love at this special location . We would love to return some day

A wonderful group of women and I stayed in the Lake Superior Barn for my 70th birthday week. The barn was perfect for the week with lots of space for lounging, reading, visiting with friends, and listening to music. Relaxing in wood fired hot tub was one of our favorite things to do in the evenings. The sunsets on the beach were spectacular and looking for rocks and beach glass was a favorite activity. We were even able to watch the Perseid meteor shower during the last evening of our stay. The location of the barn was close enough to explore other towns including Bayfield, Cornucopia, and Duluth. The weather was great and the barn was a perfect place to re-connect with friends. Would love to come back for another stay!!!

This was the perfect house and property for our annual family vacation! We had a large group, and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy the property together. The yard was perfect for all of the yard games we love to play, and we spent so much time just hanging out at the house and relaxing.Being right on Lake Superior with easy beach access was definitely one of our favorite parts. We loved being able to walk down to the water and enjoy the shoreline throughout our stay. The hot tub and sauna were also amazing additions! We especially appreciated the extra refrigerator space, which is always so helpful when traveling with a large group, as well as having plenty of bathrooms for everyone. The property really had everything we could have asked for and made our annual family trip so enjoyable. We’re incredibly grateful for our stay!

Austin-
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay!!
Thanks, Tom & Nicole
The Barn was everything we expected and more. The beach was great for rock and beach glass hunting. The “house” was everything we expected and so much more. There was plenty of space for everyone. The evening fires watch the sunset over the lake defies description. Amazing doesn’t do it justice. Plenty of yard room for the kids to run and play. We tried to enjoy everything. The hot tub, the deck, the outdoor shower, the game room, the gourmet kitchen. Hopefully we will be back.

Our family group of 16 had a wonderful week at the Superior Barn. The lakeside location was beautiful, the private beach was amazing, and there was so much space, inside and out, for kids to spread out and play. Truly a beautiful and unique property. That being said, we did have a few concerns with the property: trail down to the lake is very slippery after a rain, if anyone in your group has any mobility challenges, mice (on traps) were in the kitchen one morning, and the septic holding tank filled mid-week, requiring us to use minimal water for half a day until a septic truck could arrive). The property manager and owner were responsive in helping work through issues.
The barn was very clean and stocked past anything we would expect. The pictures of the barn are nice but it is way nicer in person and this place is huge! We didn't realize it was 3 floors. Lots of space for the kids to roam, it was especially nice to have the kids be able to play in the ground level game/TV room and be loud kids having fun while us adults were able to have conversations on the main level. Swimming at the beach was our favorite thing to do, the kids had an absolute blast. Very nice beach. It is a hike up and down a hill on a narrow trail to the beach, so bring a walking stick for support maybe. My parents are in their 60s and were able to do it but would take a break at the picnic table when they got to the top of the hill.

Alyssa,
Thanks for the great review... we are so happy you enjoyed your stay at the Barn!! Tom & Nicole
We were a group of 18; Seniors, teens, families with young children. Everyone had space and things to do. We saw wildlife, played on the beach. I do think that things like three levels of stairs and the distance to the beach need to be clearer in the posting as some of our group had mobility issues. The place is beautiful and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed. We had an awesome time.
We love celebrating Christmas with family here! The decorations are delightful and there is enough space for our entire family to spread out amongst the cabin as well as explore the north shore!

The house had plenty of space for our family and we really enjoyed exploring the trails around the property and the access to the beach. The sauna and hot tub were a big hit too. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Our host and caretaker were lovely, so accommodating! There was plenty of dishes for our whole crew and space for the kids to spread out. The sauna and hot tub were a fun winter novelties, we were given more firewood than needed! The views were amazing. We’d definitely love to come back! Thank you for everything!
The Lake Superior Barn was a wondeful location for our group of 3 families to convene for a long weekend. We never would have needed to leave the property with the sauna, hot tub, beach, fire pits and areas to explore but it is also in a great location for day trips to Duluth and Bayfield

Great to hear Collin! We are so happy you had a great time, thank you!! Tom & Nicole
Fantastic house for a family gathering. Sits on the bluff overlooking the lake. It's built from reclaimed timber from local barns and has a rustic feel, but it's actually modern construction. 4 bedrooms for couples and two bedrooms with a bunch of bunkbeds for kids. Large kitchen looking out over the lake. There's a large game rom downstairs but we spent out time outdoors. Easy access to canoeing and kayaking on the Brule River. Close to the Apostle Islands and close enough to Duluth for a dinner in town. We kept the hot tub firebox stoked and enjoyed a dip after dinner. Although pets are allowed, the rules are fairly restrictive, so we didn't bring our dogs. Very relaxing stay. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

Arlen,
Thanks for the review! We are thrilled you enjoyed The Barn as much as we do-

The hot tub was not filled when we got there-we filled it the next day and it took most of the day to heat it. The cabin was very clean and a great space for entertaining. We will definitely come back when the weather is better so we can go down to the beach and explore.

Jessica, I am very sorry about the hot tub, apparently the hose froze while filling it! Thanks again for choosing The Barn!! Tom & Nicole
We have 5 kids... 4 boys and 1 girl. We live in Minneapolis, MN. Enjoy "the Barn..." we always do! Relax, get off the grid... Thanks, Tom & Nicole and Kids
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the Lake, the sound of the waves, the endless sandy beach and the fact that you are 30 minutes from an amazing city like Duluth, but you feel so remote and surrounded by nature.
What makes this property unique
The property is totally remote and surrounded by State forest... you will very likely not see another person. The reclaimed home is unique and the feel is rustic. The beach is secluded and it feels like you are on an ocean.
