House tucked behind a sand dune. Great house to stay with families with children! Host very responsive and attentive! Would definitely stay there again.
Checkin was smooth, kitchen was very well equipped which was so so nice thing to have for my family's preferences, house was clean and neat as well. It was a cosy house overall. For a relaxing, no-work vacation, it was perfect.Only the internet (wifi) was a bit eccentric. But when it worked it was fine. The wifi range and strength could be made better in the house.
The property was listed as oceanside with ocean views and beach access. The only ocean view was from an upstairs bathroom and beach access was iffy. It was overgrown with thorns. The house was clean.
This is the second time we have stayed in the space, while the pathway in the back is a bit overgrown leading to the beach, it is one of the most relaxing and peaceful places to slip back into the “bygone age” of Kitty hawk. With the old style charm and newer amenities and the proximity to everything makes it the perfect place for a family who doesn’t really care about having a pool but is actually at the beach to enjoy the beach
We were very happy with the property. This house is obviously much older than a lot of the houses in Nags Head, and it has so much character. The modern upgrades were a nice touch.
If there was a walkway over the dune the house would be perfect. That wasn't a big deal, but it's hard for older people to walk over.

Charles, we are so glad you enjoyed your time at our historic Fourth Estate Cottage! This home truly is like stepping back in time, but with modern comforts. We hope you will keep us in mind for another visit to the Outer Banks!
The location could not be more perfect at this property that epitomizes old Nags Head. The relaxing porch leads to a gorgeous beach. The interior of the house is old, but newer bathrooms - as described in the listing. The kitchen provided the basics (plates, utensils, etc) but could’ve benefited from some essentials (like dish soap and dishwasher detergent). More bath towels would’ve also been helpful. Communication from the property manager was timely and thorough.
Location was great. Basic necessities were met. Repeated HVAC maintenance/repair was an issue and an interruption. Security system was a hassle, random internal beeping alarms went off repeatedly. Unable to silence, turn off completely or unplug security system. Path to the beach needs to be trimmed/pruned back. Steps and a walkway to the top of the dune would be great, like the neighbors. Rough pine wood floors were hard on the bare feet. Beds and bathrooms were good.
