Dramatically set on the side of a mountain, overlooking a sparkling clean, spring-fed 12-acre lake, our cottage is perfect for honeymooners or nature lovers-- or anyone who appreciates peace and quiet. It's tucked away down a private road-- secluded, quiet and private, surrounded by the beauty of Maine's woods. There's a horse stable on our road with beautiful horses including miniatures.
The cottage features a high deck facing our 200 feet of natural lake frontage with dock and canoe. In the dappled sunlight or under a star-blasted night sky, it’s utterly private, on 3 wooded acres.
Please note: We rent only to (non-smoking) adults. And since the bedroom is up a flight of stairs, our cottage is not suitable for handicapped individuals.
The 2005-built cottage has mahogany flooring, knotty pine paneling, and big windows with pretty views. The sunny living room has comfortable, furniture and a cozy dining area next to a cast iron heat stove (ceramic log, propane fireplace).
Due to changes in climate, I've added a heat pump with air conditioning and heating. Summers in Maine have become warmer and even sometimes humid, so air conditioning is important for a good night's rest.
Upstairs, a romantic "loft" bedroom overlooks the living room and has a custom-made, queen-size platform bed with a firm mattress with added memory foam topper. All bedding is supplied. Windows upstairs offer a view of the lake and treetops.
There's a small, quiet room at the back of the house with a futon couch/bed.
The big bathroom features a washer/dryer, a walk-in shower and a large, custom made, pine cabinet, inset with a Mexican ceramic sink and with roomy drawers for towel and extra blanket storage. Towels are supplied. Good, fresh water comes from a deep, private well and a water filter pitcher is also supplied.
In the compact kitchen are new appliances including a microwave and smooth-top range. (No dishwasher besides yourself.) Good lighting with an extra LED light over the stove. Quality cookware, knives, dishes, glassware-- fully equipped except for your groceries.
There’s a CD/radio/cassette player, a 13" TV (satellite dish connection) and DVD player with a several DVDs on hand. There’s satellite internet, and very good cell phone reception. Books, maps and brochures are supplied.
The canoe at our dock is equipped with life jackets and paddles, and the water is very clean for swimming and good for fishing-- mainly bass and pickerel.
Several more photos available on request-- interior, exterior, lake view panorama, etc...

My wife & I enjoyed our stay at this cottage. We found it to be quiet, quaint & relaxing. Location was ideal for visiting friend’s & family. We would rent again. Thank you Ginger!
The house was pristine and the surroundings peaceful and lovely. It was perfect for a quiet getaway and that is what we needed. Thank you Ginger for providing us a beautiful place to stay!
This adorable cabin was perfect for my husband and I. The environment was everything we hoped for and the location was perfect for day trips and exploring the area. They even resurfaced the dirt road the week we arrived!
The proprty was just as advertised. It was very neat and clean, very secluded and private. The canoe and fire pit were put to good use. I had a great time, thanks Ginger for sharing your place with us

Thank you, Scott. My housekeeper said you were perfect guests and she and I both hope you'll return!
We had a great time. The cabin was exactly as advertised. Secluded and quiet. Enjoyed our evening campfires, but watch out for the moose, hahah. Fishing was excellent, but watch out for the giant turtle. Excellent weather. Enjoyed every bit of our time there.

It was a wonderful stay at this home on a lake! Exactly as described. The lake and area the home is, is very quiet and away from other houses. Great experience and would love to visit again!

Wanted to spend some quiet time away from everone this was definitely the place. Although the weather wasn't the best thehome lake and surrounding area was perfect. Lake has dome nice bass and perch house has everything we needed.
My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. We enjoyed the seclusion of the property and the immediate access to the pond. My husband enjoyed using the property's canoe to fish and I loved the wake-free water for paddleboarding. We were close enough to the coast to make day trips. Great location!
House was exactly as described. Very clean and nicely decorated. Kitchen well stocked. Great for a relaxing getaway and home base to explore other towns. Only recommendation would be some maintenance on path to pond.
House was great! Really enjoyed out stay, Wonderful layout of place- small, but doesn't feel small.
Only downside was the drive in on the dirt road - not grated yet, so it had many large potholes. Luckily not a problem for out vehicle.
The property was very clean, kitchen well stocked, and with many things to do. Location is very close to town, while very remote. Loved it!! Will return if possible. I would recommend this property to anyone. Ginger was fantastic to work with.

Thank you, Dale. You were perfect guests and we'd love for you to return.
The place had everything we needed, was comfortable bright and clean. Surrounded by trees and plenty of sun or shade as preferred. The canoe was easy to get to and launch. The natural stone walk down to the pond was energizing. The fish were definitely jumping. Mid week very quiet and private. Weekend pretty much the same.

nothing was as advertized
filthy, living room did not look as advertised, dirt and hair on couch, dirt, bugs and windows. It's a pity since the windows faced the woods and lake and the breeze would have been fantastic if it was so terribly dirty and smelled musty.

I'm stunned and mystified by your complaints. My housekeeper did her usual thorough cleaning before your arrival -- vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, straightening up... I did hear from the previous guests that they'd enjoyed opening the windows, so maybe they also let in some flies. The furnishings are basically the same as they were when you visited us 9 years ago, with a few upgrades. Perhaps the "musty smell" was because of the house being closed up during the unusual heat wave in Maine at the time of your arrival?

Not exactly ON a lake
The way down needs more accommodation. My husband made it down once with difficulty. I made it half way once. We spent the week on the deck looking at the lake. The cottage was beautiful, and better provisioned than any previous rental, but we came for the lake. Never even inflated our tubes.

My cottage features private and secluded water frontage on a 12 acre lake with only 4 homes on it and all are set well back from the water's edge.
I'm very sorry you had difficulty. Since you arrived two hours early, my housekeeper had a chance to meet you and she commented to me that your husband appeared to have a physical handicap. If I had known about that beforehand, I would have discouraged you from choosing my cottage. Since it's on a mountainside, the direct path downhill to the lake is steep in places, but I do offer a less direct, alternate path that's quite easy to use. I'll make that path more obvious for future guests who may have strength or balance issues.
Ginger’s place is even sweeter than it looks in the pictures. The setting is idyllic and the house is set up with guests in mind with a well stocked kitchen and even shelving to store your own food and equipment in the kitchen and toiletries in the bathroom. The way to the lake is a tiny bit of a climb but anything more structured than the few stepping stones here and there would ruin its charm. There are only a few other residents around the lake but there was some construction going on directly across the lake starting on Thursday of our stay: sawing and nail guns etc which broke up the serenity. Hopefully their construction will end soon. It is a beautiful and otherwise peaceful place!

So happy that you enjoyed your stay! I'm surprised and sorry about the activity across the lake and we will definitely look into that when we get up there next month.
Thank you, Julia.
Thoroughly enjoyed the extended stay in the woods. We were there to unwind and visit family and this let us do both very nicely. Well equipped, clean, cozy, and welcoming. Thanks for the hospitality!
Clean, well equipped, cozy and quiet. Location was perfect for us to simply relax, read, cook. Kayaked much at Three Mile Pond, played a round of golf at Western View. Both 15 minutes away. Maine Cabin Masters was our draw. The coast is not far but chose to stick close and enjoy the cottage.
House was clean and comfortable, lake was beautiful and perfect temp for swimming. Very beautiful relaxing spot. Didn’t want to leave. Thanks so much Ginger! We had a lovely time!

Charm and Solitude
If you are looking for a place to enjoy peace and solitude but without "roughing it", then this is your place. The serenity of the lake and canoe, the peaceful mornings on the back deck hearing nary a sound except that provided by birds and water fowl was just the tonic this tired workaholic needed to refresh and recharge.
Within an hour is everything you could hope to see in Maine. Hiking trails with amazing views were plentiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the coast, especially the quaint and uncrowded scenes of Rockport and Camden where we found the locals so friendly and the food out of this world. We also headed up north on Hwy 201 toward Jackman - moose country - where we saw spectacular views and wildlife in abundance. We also found nearby Augusta to have more charm and things to do than any review hinted at.
Only downside was the time of year we were here - end of June - was peak tourism season, so popular destinations such as Bar Harbor and Acadia National were jam-packed. We avoided those areas as a result and have no regrets, but if this is what you desire to see and experience, choose your dates carefully.
Ginger is a gracious hostess and everything you could want is right there. We will definitely be back again to enjoy this beautiful setting.

About the host
Hosted by Ginger Marie
I'm Ginger, a retired commercial artist, born in Maine, but raised in Virginia. I love beauty, nature, and simple pleasures. In this photo, I've just bought fresh blueberries in the nearby town of Union.
Why they chose this property
Maine is Heaven on Earth to me and I always yearned for a cottage there. This one was an unfinished summer home on 3 wild acres, bordering on a quiet lake-- my dream come true! I worked with a contractor, designing it every inch and I love it so much. It gives me great pleasure to share it with folks who feel about Maine the way I do.
What makes this property unique
At my cottage, you're immersed in nature-- surrounded by woods and busy wildlife. My favorite spot is leaning on the deck railing, gazing through the trees to the lake, watching for birds and chipmunks. We've had a groundhog living under a tree near the deck; we regularly see wild turkeys and deer. I've even seen a porcupine waddling down our road. Yesterday while canoeing around the lake, we startled a MOOSE on the opposite bank. And once, a giant heron stood on our dock and then came right up to our driveway.
Our cottage is uniquely private. You could go skinny-dipping, if you wanted. Augusta is just 10 minutes away, with it's shopping centers and restaurants, but I like the local, Hussey's General Store better. A day at the pretty coast is always a possibility, --for Pemaquid Point lighthouse, local crafts, old books and antiques, and a classic lobster dinner overlooking the ocean at sunset.
