Cozy Loft Cabin high above Bashakill Wildlife Refuge
Nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, Wurtsboro is a charming village just 90 minutes from NYC, celebrated for its natural beauty, outdoor activities, and historic charm. After a scenic drive up a winding rural road, guests arrive at Hiker’s Haven—a cozy, detached Loft located on the same property as our log cabin home, set on three wooded acres above the Bashakill Wildlife Refuge. While trees and foliage limit direct views of the water, you’ll hear birdsong, spot bald eagles or red-tailed hawks, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In fall, vibrant foliage reveals glimpses of the Bashakill. The detached studio offers easy access to the Shawangunk Ridge Trail and the Long Path. Relax on the private deck, stargaze, play games, or savor S’mores around the campfire.
In addition to the loft's amenities, Wurtsboro offers visitors delicious dining options like Danny's Village Inn and the Red Dot Vegetarian Kitchen, along with a variety of shops like Gigi's Coffee, vintage clothing stores, and Canal Towne Emporium. Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate nearby state forests like Wurtsboro Ridge, Roosa Gap, and Shawangunk Ridge, which boast some of the best trails in the Hudson Valley. Additionally, the town offers a bustling farmer's market on Friday evenings in the summer months.
For wine lovers, Bashakill Vineyards, a small craft farm winery, is just a stone's throw away from the cabin. The vineyard offers live music, chef-made eats, local beers, and a beautiful experience with marvelous views overlooking the Bashakill Preserve in the Shawangunk foothills.

This property was just as described. It was cozy near a lot of different trails for hikers. The hosts were amazing setting up a fire for our 1st night and a gazebo because it was raining. There was extra fire wood and snacks. They went above and beyond. We loved our stay and will be back. Thank you!
Loved our stay! It was only for a night but place was lovely. Lots of nature surrounding us, amazing coffee and great recommendations from host. My favorite was the winery close by, I would 1000 times come back for this. Thank you for your hospitality
Great spot! Only thing to really be aware of that I didn’t realize (probably my own fault) is that unless you bring equipment to cook over a fire you will need to leave for meals
Unfortunately we had a very short stay, but beautiful area, house was nice, comfortable furnishings, the bed’s head raised, which was wonderful and a nice surprise, and loved the colorful rug. We would return to this adorable, quiet, peaceful, beautiful, rustic place.
A fantastic little getaway after a wonderful day of hiking the Catskills! Vinny & Josh were perfect hosts and the property is fantastic! Will definitely be back!

Thank you so much for the kind words! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your getaway after exploring the Catskills. It was a pleasure hosting you—Vinny and I are so glad you felt welcome and comfortable. We’d love to have you back anytime! 🌲🏡✨
This charming little loft was the perfect escape. It was exactly as described — beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything we needed. The location is incredibly peaceful yet still close to the highway and town. We loved making s’mores by the fire pit, and the hosts couldn’t have been nicer.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the loft and had a chance to relax and make some s’mores by the fire (one of my favorite parts of the property too!). A perfect mountain get-away for our family! The cabin was so relaxing and it had everything we needed to feel at home. We loved every minute of our stay and hope to go back again!
Our host had everything ready, AC was on and keys were inside. The loft was rustic , but clean and neat. All of our necessities were met. The location is very rural and close to many opportunities for kayaking. Also, they had free snacks! They are dog friendly as well.
We loved our stay. Hosts have provided so many thoughtful details and were delightful. The AC was excellent relief on the hot humid August days. The views into the woods and glimpses of the ridges in the distance through were soothing. The dirt road on the way there made us feel like we were leaving all civilization behind only to arrive at a peaceful and comfortable sanctuary. Exactly what we were looking for. Thank you!
Peaceful, serene, cozy, and private, with a cute small town nearby, a wonderful getaway for my wife and I to enjoy some wine and listen to the sounds of nature. It made me sad to have to check out this morning! Strong recommend
Found this place for our trip to see Luke Bryan at bethal woods. Place was adorable and perfect for our one night trip. Vinny and Josh were super sweet and accommodating for info on local restaurants and store details
The location is beautiful and tranquil and I enjoyed seeing all the wildlife early in the am. .would definitely book again for future concerts ❤️
There aren’t enough great things to say about this place—it was absolutely perfect! We spent a long weekend here, and it was everything we could have hoped for. The location was secluded yet conveniently close to great restaurants and stores. There are also plenty of excellent hiking spots nearby.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, featuring an adjustable base box spring, which was a nice touch. Josh, the host, was fantastic—extremely kind, quick to respond, and very accommodating. We felt truly welcomed from start to finish.
This was by far the best experience I’ve ever had with a rental, and we will definitely be back again!
Vinny was gracious host despite our us not realizing there was not AC in this unit. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. I absolutely recommend this unit for the fall/winter/spring.
Nice place; plenty of hot water, clean towels, enough blankets - air conditioner worked well, comfy bed. This place is nicely out of the way but neighbors very close. Steep hill to access house, should probably state need an suv/suv type vehicle or truck to manage as we had a car. The car did ok but there is a large rock and a few deep areas to maneuver over/thru. No hiking/trails able to be accessed from house, unable to ride road bike from house due to gravel road. Also maybe mention there is no stove/ oven or hot plate of any kind, also only a dorm size fridge with small freezer... not apartment or full size fridge, limited dishes- mostly 2 of each only. We made it work, enjoyed the small town instead... ventured to town to a nice bkfst/lunch spot and pizza from Gotta luv it pizza.States door is open for entry when arrive, key inside but unable to find key when we left for town.

Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting some of the things you enjoyed, like the comfy bed, strong A/C, clean towels, and our peaceful, out-of-the-way setting.
We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t quite match that of our many previous guests, who have absolutely loved their stay. We do want to clarify a few things that may help future guests:
We provide alternate directions in our welcome message to help avoid the steeper part of the road, and many guests have found them helpful, especially when arriving in a standard car. We’ll be sure to emphasize those directions more clearly going forward.
As for the kitchen setup, the listing clearly states there is no stove or oven, and that we’re equipped with a dorm-size fridge and basic dishware for two. This setup works well for most of our guests looking for a quiet, unplugged getaway, but we understand it may not suit all travel styles.
Lastly, we’re located on a rural gravel road, and that’s also noted in the listing. It’s part of the charm for many, but again, we know it’s not for everyone.
As for the distance between houses, maybe you assumed our main house was a neighbors? There is a good acre or more between our property and that of our 2 neighbors although the driveways are close.
We appreciate you staying with us and hope you enjoyed your time exploring the nearby town and local spots like Gotta Luv It Pizza!
