About this property
HIKING dog friendly HOT TUB & FIREPIT peaceful farmhouse cabin ATV UTV TRAILS
Curtis Creek Farmhouse is a charming & comfortable home away from home. Surrounded by a small working cattle farm it also features practically a 360 degree view of the mountains (especially in the winter). It has modern amenities but still holds on to vintage charm & appeal. The gravel road to the farm house features a beautiful rocky bluff overhang, while the driveway has a 100+ year rock fence. Centrally located to many of the popular Newton County, AR hikes, 30 min drive to Jasper, 40 min drive to the Buffalo River.
Upstairs/main level:
LIVING ROOM with two leather couches (seats 6), smart tv with streaming services you can log in to, bluetooth Klipsch premium sound bar with subwoofer, and wood stove (a small amount of wood provided during cold weather);
DINING ROOM and KITCHEN with refrigerator, gas cook stove and oven, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, crockpot, as well as typical dishes/utensils, and solid oak dining table that seats up to 6 with leaf; kitchen has stainless steel pots and pans as well as Granitium non stick pans -- cast iron can be provided if you give me a detailed description of you how you will use, take care of and clean them. =) ~~ I try to provide plenty of everything (no starter packs where you have to buy more household supplies to finish out your stay), so that all you need from the store is your food and drink. A cabinet in the kitchen does have quite an array of food, but nothing is guaranteed to still be there from the previous guest. I do try to make sure there is always salt, pepper, spices in a spice rack, a little flour, sugar, brown sugar, oil, oil spray, foil, and clingwrap. There's usually a good assortment of condiments (used) in the fridge as well. There's plenty of plates, bowls, and drinkware, including plasticware for outside use. Coffeemaker can make a whole pot or a single cup (both use loose coffee ground, no cups or pods).
BATHROOM with antique clawfoot bathtub/shower combo; again, no starter packs of anything.. I do my best to leave plenty of everything you'll need for your stay. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are in the shower/bathtub. In the cabinet, there are extra toiletries in case you forgot something. There is also a small bar of homemade lye soap, if you prefer that over body wash.
PRIMARY BEDROOM with a king size bed, plenty of pillows, side tables with lamps and plenty of charging space, luggage rack and small armoire with hangers.
Downstairs/basement is a combined BEDROOM and living area open to the upstairs via the stairwell. Includes two queen size beds, couch and tv, original Nintendo gaming console with 18 games & two controllers, dining table, games/cards/books, and washer and dryer.
Outside there is a really great full length front cedar deck with porch swing and two rocking chairs with small table. There is a bird feeder to enjoy while sipping on your favorite beverage. The back patio features a charcoal park-style grill (charcoal not included), 7 person hot tub, and large yard with a picnic table and fire pit (some wood provided) with seating for 6.
Plenty of parking space to bring trailers with ATVs (no riding in yard please) or horses (subject to additional rules and fees before booking).
Limestone Valley is known for its beauty and recreational benefits. Enjoy the seclusion with peace and quiet and the non light-polluted night sky (soooo many stars at night and maybe even the Milky Way), yet still being close enough to enjoy Newton County hikes, the Buffalo River, and Jasper, the county seat. Staying at the Curtis Creek Farmhouse is almost like stepping back in time with features reminding you of grandma and grandpa's house but with modern amenities that we all enjoy.
The Farmhouse is located about two miles down the steep & curvy dirt/gravel road. Four wheel drive is NOT required... regular vehicles do just fine.
There’s access to the county road where you can ride four wheelers, side by sides, and horses. There’s also a smaller county road on down in the valley that is accessible by the above mentioned types of vehicles or four wheel drive vehicles. It’s a beautiful drive above/along Piney Creek with amazing swimming holes (depending on rainfall/drought) that include rocks to jump off of and a wonderful day of relaxing.
If you book a stay with us, just let us know you’d like directions on how/where to access this road and we’d be happy to tell you.
Please Note:
🌒 If you are not accustomed to a very rural setting, you may want to arrive during daylight hours. It gets very dark at night and it's easier to see the road and driveway during the day. It is safe to arrive after dark, just go slow on the road. I do leave the light on for you though just in case you get here after dark!
🛻 If you are bringing a trailer, please let us know if it’s over 20’ long so we can tell you where to park it… it will NOT make it around the turn from driveway into the yard. We have a field across from the start of the driveway, you can have access to.
🤳 There is no cell phone service down here. The farmhouse has WiFi and a rotary phone (for emergency use if the WiFi is out). Turn WiFi Calling on in your cell phone settings to make and receive calls using WiFi.
🚭 No vaping or smoking of any kind inside the farmhouse. If there are signs, smells or damage from smoking inside, there will be at least an additional $150 cleaning fee, depending on damage. If there are cigarette butts outside (not in ashtrays) there will be an additional $50 cleaning fee.
🐄 Yard adjoins a small working cattle farm. You are NOT to cross any fences or gates. There may be times where we have to come close to the house (in the fields) to feed/take care of our livestock.
🐕 Pets (up to 2 dogs) are allowed but you MUST add them to the booking. Otherwise you are subject to additional fees.
🛖 There are outbuildings around the farmhouse that are not to be entered or tampered with. They belong to and are used on the adjoining cattle farm.
🌲 We are surround by the Ozark National Forest. Use caution with wildlife. Since we are surrounded by forests/woods/trees, we do sometimes get bugs/critters in the house. We spray regularly and use all means we can to keep them out, but it's just a part of country life.
🎥 There is a motion detecting camera in lower part of the yard/driveway.

About the host
Hosted by Marla Chalmers
My husband, Brad, and I are both Arkansas natives, with Brad being raised right here in the Limestone Valley and Marla in south Arkansas. We are now raising our four kids here, although one has left the nest. Brad works for a local school district mainly doing HVAC but also general maintenance. Marla volunteers several hours each month and homeschools the kids. We both enjoy walking on our property to check on our cows, antiquing, traveling, and live music events.
