Communication was great with the property manager from beginning to end. Everything in the listing was accurate. The home was tastefully decorated and looks to have been recently remodeled. The weather during our visit didn't allow us to use the top deck much, but we did enjoy the views when we were up there. The unit was less than 2 miles from most tourist spots. Great food and grocery within a half mile as well. The unit was clean up on arrival and enough toiletries and supplies for the extent of our visit. The beds were very comfortable. My only complaints were that one night a neighbor was very loud until 1am and kept waking us up, and wish the unit had a blender. Other than that we would definitely stay again.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication, location
Nice residence, unsafe location
The residence was clean and spacious. It retained all the supplies and utensils to lend for a comfortable stay. Bedrooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were well updated. Everything was very clean. The concern is not the property, but rather the location itself. Upon check in on Thursday around 4:30PM in the well lit street while parking, we were approached by two males who were threatening and by their word choice (not appropriate to spell out here). We did not feel safe and were no longer comfortable or looking forward to our stay. We spent the next 90 minutes on the phone with VRBO who stated they could not make any changes or last minute cancellations, and that we needed to contact the property host. During this time, my mother had spoken to Eric, the property manager who stated that this was a safe area and that we should contact the police if this happens again. Not wanting to lose our entire trip cost, we proceeded with our check in. On Friday night, we returned from dinner only to find that there were police case number cards in our car doors. The entire passenger side of two car doors had been shot and per the police report, 12 casings recovered. We again reached out to the property manager, now with picture evidence of broken windows and bullet holes in our cars. The response from the property manager was [excerpt] " DC is a city that has a total area of only 68.34 square miles, please be advised we are not responsible for events occurring in the district, happening outside of the property and outside of our control." We even requested that they call us, a call which was never made. Our Saturday was spent cleaning up glass, visiting the police station for reports, calling our insurance, and taping up our windows instead of touring and sightseeing D.C. In short we communicated our concerns of safety to both VRBO and the property manager on separate occasions regarding two specific concerns. Neither of which were taken seriously and no actions of concern were experienced. Even after our stay was completed, we reached Eric to express our concerns and left a voicemail which was never returned. This was an awfully dangerous experience that could never be recommended to anyone staying in D.C. at a VRBO. Photos of our cars and police reports can be provided.

Hello Denise, the reason VRBO was not able to intervene is the same reason we were unable to, and that is because we are not responsible for events outside of the immediate property. Your initial complaint before check in referenced to your encounter with two African American males who greeted you while en route to the property. We have no control of such activity and furthermore, the need to cite the races of the people you encountered was concerning. We cited the size of our nations capital and how dense it is to give you an idea of the busy city that we have no control over. We have never had any other issues in the time this listing has been active. However, we cannot control people you encounter while en route to the home. One can drive from one end of the city to the other end in just 20-25 minutes, so DC is very dense and populated with a lot of foot traffic. People e each other is not a cause for concern here, which we explained to you though we advised you call law enforcement if you felt unsafe. You chose to refrain from calling law enforcement. With the event of the damaged vehicle, we have follow up messages to you that were left without response as again, these events occurred in the city unrelated to the home. We also communicated with VRBO and Expedia and both ruled in our favor. We are sorry your experience was not one you enjoyed, it’s just that we have no control whatsoever on the activities in the district and your experience is more with the city than the home itself. Generally speaking, DC is a safe city and all guests feel comfortable and enjoy their stay. Best Wishes,

Welcome to H Street Corridor
An eclectic community nestled near Capitol Hill & Union Market, known for it's locally-owned spots, it's little surprise that the H Street Corridor has been recognized by national publications as a neighborhood in revival.
What to expect? A bustling enclave just blocks from the U.S. Capitol. The “Hopscotch Bridge” over the tracks of Union Station takes you away from the formality of Capitol Hill to a 1.5-mile stretch of colorfully diverse street life, where carefully restored row houses mingle with new luxury apartment buildings.
The lifestyle: An eclectic haven of nightlife and theater. The heart of H Street Corridor is brimming with restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and cultural attractions such as the newly revived Atlas Center for Performing Arts, which was originally built in 1939 as a 1,000-seat movie theater.
Unexpected appeal: Streetcar service returned to H Street in 2016, starting at Union Station and running the length of the corridor before turning down onto Benning Road toward the riverfront.
The Market: No longer an “emerging” neighborhood. As the corridor has evolved into a sought-after destination for shopping and nightlife, real estate prices have kept apace. Townhouses are the go-to first for buyers in this area. When they can be found, penthouse units in new condo buildings reach well over $1 million.
YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH Community, culture, nightlife and the H Street festival. The annual H Street Festival has become one of the most highly attended celebrations in the city, stretching for 11 blocks with 14 stages and featuring a broad, culturally diverse array of music, fashion, arts, poetry readings, and children’s programs. It’s also one of six DC neighborhoods to host Art All Night, with pop-up galleries staging exhibits from 7pm to 2am. If that’s not enough to keep you awake, H Street is home to many staple live music venues like the Rock & Roll Hotel and Little Miss Whiskeys.
