Secluded Hillside Home With Views of Whiteface
This 3,000 square foot 4bedroom/4.5bath timber frame home sits on the edge of a hillside meadow with great views. The location is secluded and private in the heart of the High Peaks but only a short drive from the hamlets of Keene, Keene Valley, and Jay. The resort town of Lake Placid is only 30 minutes away by car and Whiteface Mountain Ski Area is a 20 minute drive from the house. Cross-country ski areas, numerous state-maintained hiking trails, and an abundance of other summer and winter recreation opportunities are nearby.
The main level features a great room with soaring wood ceilings, a full wall of glass to maximize the views, exquisite timber frame details, warm oak floors, and a wood-burning fireplace. This kitchen and dining area are open and connected to the great room in order to facilitate conversation and to allow views from all public spaces in the home. The kitchen is fully-equipped and features granite countertops, maple cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances including a Jenn-Air gas cooktop and electric oven, Asko dishwasher, LG French door refrigerator with ice maker, and a dual zone wine cooler. The dining table, seating six to eight, is lit at night by recessed lighting and a candle chandelier, but during the day has great views in several directions. The master bedroom on the main floor has a king bed with deluxe mattress and bedding, a gas fireplace, a large walk-in closet, and a bathroom with dual Kohler sinks, a large shower with deluxe showerhead and body jets, and a Jacuzzi Pure Air bath for ultimate relaxation. There is also a half bath on the main floor. Enjoy the views of the Jay Range, the Sentinel Range, and Clements Mountain from all three levels or get the full effect from the large 50' deck, which is accessible from the great room, dining area, and master bedroom on the main level.
Downstairs, there are two large bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with a queen bed, as well as two bathrooms with showers. The laundry room is downstairs and features large capacity washer and dryer. The highlight of the lower level is a large rec room with a gas fireplace, HDTV with satellite (DirecTV) and surround sound, several seating areas, a wet bar with sink and refrigerator, a large sectional sofa, a foosball table, and numerous board games, puzzles, and books.
On the upper level, the open loft overlooks the great room to the north and has a porch facing south. It features a cozy seating area with a reading chair and an Adirondack bookeshelf loaded with plenty of reading material, as well as a baby grand piano and a TV with DirecTV satellite service. The loft connects to a bedroom decorated in a bear theme with two twin beds and a private bath with tub, ideal for children and well-equipped with kids books and toys.
The main and lower levels are equipped with in-floor radiant heat and each of the four full bathrooms has supplemental heat. The house is fairly child-friendly and has two Stokke child chairs for the dinner table, other child seating such as a double child Adirondack chair, a Maclaren jogging stroller, safety gates for the stairways, and various toys, games, videos, and books for kids. The house is fully equipped with linens, including extra quilts, blankets, and cozy throws for snuggling on the couch. No detail was overlooked in the finishes such as tongue and groove Northern white cedar ceilings, massive fir timbers, slate tile floors, lighting by designers such as George Kovacs, original paintings and prints by Adirondack artists such as Bruce Mitchell and Ruth Rumney, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and amenities such as an espresso machine in the kitchen, telescope for viewing the clear night skies, and binoculars for bird-watching in the meadow.
This setting is the perfect place to enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of the Adirondacks without having to sacrifice comfort. Red Oak Lodge truly is a special place in this most fascinating and captivating Adirondack Park. Winter provides opportunities for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, watching the numerous winter sports in Lake Placid, sledding just out the back door, or simply enjoying the hush after a fresh snowfall. Spring brings a unique beauty as the forest and wilderness surrounding the house comes alive. Summer is full of life as the birds and wildlife make themselves known and as the communities throughout the North Country come alive with outdoor concerts, family events, art festivals, farmers markets, and more. The fall is unforgettable as the hills and valleys fill with color and cool days are perfect for hiking the area trails. You may never want to leave.
A four-wheel drive or AWD vehicle is essential in winter. Please be aware that landline phone service is not available at the house. Additionally, cell phone coverage in the Adirondacks is limited. Verizon Wireless users experience occasional service; all other service providers do not provide any cell phone service in the Keene area. Starlink satellite internet service was installed recently, and though generally reliable, service and performance are not guaranteed and may be affected by weather. No smoking and no pets allowed in the home.

We are thrilled that you had a relaxing time at our home in the Adirondacks. It indeed is well-situated for enjoying quiet days but within a short drive of plenty of activities and attractions. Thanks again for choosing our home for your getaway!
Really enjoyed our time at this beautiful property. Plenty of space for the entire group. No WiFi and almost no cell reception (very very spotty for us Verizon users, occasionally we would get a bar or two but it was rare) so beware if that’s important to you.

We are thrilled that you enjoyed your time at our beautiful home in the Adirondacks. Fall is a wonderful time of year in the North Country indeed. You are correct that there is no WiFi and the cell reception is poor. Our listing and contract clearly indicate this and we also remind our guests of this when we accept a reservation. Though most of our guests have appreciated the opportunity to escape and get away, we intend to add Starlink internet before the end of the year so that future guests can have a choice whether to stay connected via the internet or completely disconnect. Thank you again for choosing our home for your weekend in the High Peaks!
We very much enjoyed our stay in Keene NY and this lovely property. It is actually nicer than the photos, and the property was beautiful as well. Couldn't have been happier with the vacation. We had lots of room for the family, and were able to disconnect from the wired world.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay! The house and property are indeed beautiful and it is hard to capture the beauty in photographs. It is a great place to enjoy the beauty of the Adirondacks and disconnect from normal life. Thank you again for choosing our beautiful property for your North Country escape!
Our family of 7 spent a very comfortable week at this property while hiking the surrounding mountains. The view was beautiful as nature surrounded us from all sides. Inside there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and find their own "nook". Everything we needed was provided, and there were clear instructions on where to find everything. It was a great time!

It was a very cold but beautiful February weekend in Keene. We laughed, ate, snowshoed, played games and thoroughly enjoyed our unplugged time at Red Oak Loj

We are thrilled that you were able to "unplug" and enjoy a relaxing winter weekend in the Adirondacks. Thank you for choosing to spend a memorable weekend in our home!
This home is amazing, it has the best views and is very warm and cozy. I definitely recommend this home to get away from everything and to just reset.

This house was wonderful for our two families. We enjoyed the lean as well as the secluded location of the home. The home provided everything we needed. We would love to go back and stay again to knock out some more high peaks.

We are thrilled that you enjoyed our home and that you hope to visit again. Indeed we seek to make sure it offers all that our guests need and we are glad to hear from you that it exceeded your expectations. The lean-to in the woods is a nice short walk from the house, it is a great place to enjoy nature, and we are glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again for choosing our home for your Adirondack hiking adventure.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house tucked away in the mountains. This house is well-stocked (towels, dishes, pantry, grill, etc.) and clean. Located 15-20 minutes from Lake Placid gives you accessibility to tons of hiking! We were a little worried about no A/C, but the evenings cooled down nicely. The view from the deck is beautiful and deer are prevalent. This is a great place to relax, enjoy the mountains, and unplug!

Exceeded expectations!
This home was perfectly located for hiking the High Peaks and Saranac 6...or hanging out in Lake Placid. But don't miss the great restaurant in Keene called Forty Six (roasted brussel sprouts, beet salad and perfectly cooked salmon...yummo!). The caretaker is friendly and knowledgable. Scott the owner is responsive and accommodating. The property / views are breathtaking. The home is well stocked, very clean and extremely comfortable. There is a large window seat in the great room, perfect for reading or reflecting. The lean to was a fun extra outdoor space for sitting by the firepit and roasting marshmellows. We all hated to leave. One of the nicest family vacations we have ever enjoyed. No wifi was a bonus and forced us to socialize with family...not on media! We will be back!

Wonderful stay in a beautiful house
If you're interested in the High Peaks area this property is very conveniently located.
The house and surroundings are so beautiful it's hard to leave. The kitchen had everything you need for a great family dinner. No wifi, or phone access, but we got to enjoy the views that much more.
Will definitely return.

Great Place!
Everything about the house is great! Scott was very accommodating to get us right in last minute and the house is beautiful inside!
It has great views of Whiteface. It just needs a hot hub and I'll be back this winter!

We are so glad you were able to enjoy the house during your visit to the Adirondacks. As you know, there is a hot tub in the master bathroom, but your idea of adding an outdoor hot tub on the deck with views of Whiteface is a good one. We are continually seeking ideas to add amenities for our guests to enjoy, so thank you for your suggestion! We indeed hope you will visit again this winter or again next summer!

Wonderful Property
Great home with spectacular views and superior finishes. We had up to nine folks in the house and everyone was very comfortable. The only negative is cell/data service with only Verizon working for either cell or data. You will need a rugged vehicle in the snow since the home is up in the mountains on a very challenging final approach.

Fifth year staying here.
This is our fifth year staying here. Beautiful house! Overlooks a secluded mountain valley, surrounded by mountains. The deck is a great joy just to sit and have coffee in the morning. Peaceful...only natural sounds. Only house visible is a beautiful farm in the valley below. Enough space in the house so that you don't get in each other's way. Only drawback is lack of wifi, if that is a concern for you! Certainly plenty to do in the house and in the surrounding area!

Paul,
Thank you for returning to enjoy the house once again! We are thankful for friends and guests who return year after year and we find that, like you, they appreciate the seclusion and solitude surrounded by the beautiful High Peaks. It indeed is a wonderful house in a gorgeous setting and we look forward to sharing it with others, as well as enjoying more time there ourselves!

Lovely Adirondack getaway
Red Oak Lodge is a beautiful home -- very comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is well-appointed and clean; the bedrooms are spacious; and the living room (our favorite space) is fabulous, with its vaulted ceiling, leather furniture, and spectacular view of Whiteface Mountain. Keene is a nice little town and is a perfect starting point for hiking the high peaks or cross-country skiing. If you want to be in the heart of the Adirondacks but removed from the crowds in Lake Placid, this is the ideal spot.

The pictures do not do this property justice.
Much appreciated Scott accommodating our party of 8 on short notice. Enjoyed our stay. Magnificent Adirondack house and property with great views. Still has that new home smell. Kids enjoyed the wild blackberries and raspberry's. Experienced the newly built lean to, deck and fire pit with its own great views. This is a great place to decompress or be as active as you want. Restaurants, shops and grocery store at the foot of the hill in Keene. Lake Placid is a short drive along the river. Recommend the nearby popular cascade hiking trail for long range 360 views. Would highly recommend this Adirondack house only wish we could have stayed longer.

A happy return!
This was our second stay at this fantastic house! We enjoy the comfort it affords and the secluded "away from it all" location, minutes away from skiing at Whiteface. Our kids love to come to this house as they have a big playroom to themselves downstairs and we enjoy a little adult reprieve by the fire upstairs. The layout of the house is really conducive to relaxation for the whole family and time together. Highly recommend.

Great Private Home
My now wife and I rented the hillside home and actually hosted our small wedding here. It was a perfect autumn day and had the ceremony on the great deck overlooking then mountains with our closest family who all had their own private master suites. Nothing was overlooked for hosting from the kitchen to the laundry to the bbq grill. We then enjoyed the house to ourselves for our honeymoon, relaxing, quiet, and beautiful with the peak of fall foliage. We look forward to returning to Keene and the Adirondacks soon as we are avid hikers and love the area.

About the host
Hosted by Scott Jones
We are a family of four that loves to spend time in the Adirondacks. Cammy has spent virtually every summer of her childhood in the region and on the farm that is nearby this property. Scott and the boys have grown to love this place and we have made many memories in the North Country and in this house every summer and at other times of year.
Why they chose this property
As Cammy was growing up going to her grandparents' farm every summer, she always thought that someday she would like to build a house in the 'Upper Meadow' above the farm. Indeed she did and now our house is the place where we are creating memories for our own kids.
What makes this property unique
We had this house custom built and we were involved intimately in the design process. We like clean and simple designs and we chose design accents that are reflective of the Adirondack sense of place. We particularly love the great room and open kitchen space, and its soaring wood ceiling and huge picture window looking out to Whiteface Mountain. Despite its volume, it still has a cozy feel. We love to wake up in the morning, get a cup of coffee, and sit in the window seat or in front of the fireplace and enjoy a good book.
