About the host

Hosted by Janet Worth

Host profile image
As an empty nester, my family of four girls, eight grandchildren, and my siblings and their children's children are my pride and joy. And after 43 years, I'm still helping folks as a speech-language pathologist. I recently added host to my titles. I hope to provide a comfortable rural place for guests to escape the noise of the city and relax for a while. My wish is to be a successful organic farmer and domestic farm animal rescuer as I try to live in harmony with nature. My ultimate goal for the 25+ acre property is to leave it as a farm and open space in perpetuity, gifted and protected by a land trust, never to be divided into 5 housing units or more. The pending 1,000 acre Intel computer chip factory in New Albany will greatly impact this area with increased demands for the already dwindling open spaces in order to develop infrastructure, buildings and housing. I hope through my farm and guest house I will be able to use the revenues to protect this property forever.

Why they chose this property

We came to live on this hill as a family after 9/11/2001. I fell in love with the views. The house was a solid custom-built by the Jerry McClain Company. It has been comfortable ever since and continues to provide great views from every room during the changing seasons. The views of the changing weather, the sun, dark skies and sharing the land with wildlife and birds never gets old.

What makes this property unique

The house is a simple, solid custom built home overlooking the views of rolling agricultural hills less than a mile from Denison and 2 miles from the Village of Granville. Enjoy hiking and viewing birds and wildlife around us. Kids like Wildwood Park, Spring Valley Nature Preserve that are nearby and the goats across the street at the intermediate school..
As soon as you arrive and look around the property and neighboring farms and woods, I hope you will feel the stress fall away. Enjoy a sunrise or the beautiful lingering sunsets. My hill is the same elevation as Swassey Chapel at Denison, so you have quite a view and can see all the little hamlets in the west light up during the Fourth of July week festivities.
My goal is to get off the grid and live in harmony with wildlife on my organic farm. Along the north side is the shelter belt of trees and shrubs as well as wildflowers and milkweed plants for monarch butterflies. Shelter belts act as a buffer from conventional, chemical farming and organic produce and hay. There is an eco-friendly geothermal loop system in the back pasture to heat and cool the house. I trickle charge my EV in the garage. I will try to accommodate guests with an EV with a free charge. A solar back up generator is my next project since electricity is still expensive. My ultimate goal is to once again save horses from the slaughter auction as well as to adopt endangered heritage farm animals from the Livestock Conservancy.
