Perfect for two guests and a dog, this private one-bedroom home sits directly on the Hammond Trail in McKinleyville, CA. Walk or bike to the Mad River and ocean right from the property, with easy drives to beaches and redwood forests.

Enjoy gated, secure parking, fully fenced yards, a comfy queen bed, sleeper sofa, fully equipped kitchen, plus an outdoor sauna and shower.

Guests typically enjoy the garden and sunsets as well as the cleanliness and peace that the space exudes.

Note: Dog fee is $30 for one and $50 for two. Please tell us upon booking if you are bringing a dog. They are not allowed to be left home alone, inside or outside.

Do the dishes. We will take out the garbage - just make there it’s all in the receptacles. We will gather your linens.
Place TV remote in tray on the end table ($50 charged if it’s missing).
When you leave the property, close/secure the gate.

Onsite access is exclusively for registered guests. Inviting visitors is not permitted unless checking with us ahead of time.
Please consider removing your shoes upon entering the house. You'll see how clean the house is and this is a big reason why!

Everything about our stay was GREAT! My husband enjoyed the sauna and my favorite part was relaxing on the couch with the fireplace going after rock hunting at the beach. No issues and plenty of amenities...we will be back!

As before this was the perfect place for us. I like that there are doors to separate living areas and everything is so comfortable. It was perfect to stay there with our son as he slept on the pull out couch and we slept in the bedroom. Having some outside space is really nice too and relaxing. We went for a really long walk right from the house, along the river and all the way to the beach. The scenery was beautiful with farmland areas and a people bridge across the river. It was even wonderful to do during the rain.

Lovely stay

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here with our 2 little dogs. The sauna was especially nice, but it is also a nice location to get to a lot of beaches and forests!

I picked this location because it was close to the Redwood national Forrest which it is. I was traveling with my dog and the owners are very pet friendly. They had a fenced in backyard area off the bedroom, which was a nice bonus for her to be able to roam around and go to the restroom without being on a leash. The house itself is very quaint and has everything you would need and the outdoor sauna is very enjoyable! There is ample secure parking and instructions from the owner prior to coming and information in the house were extremely good. The beaches nearby are amazing and there are many that were pet friendly my dog and I had a very nice time and would stay again.

What a gorgeous property! The hosts have thougbt of absolutely everything. The unit was SUPER clean and VERY well appointed. We travel as often as we can, and this property is in the top 1 or 2 places for cleanliness, comfort,location....even the grounds are beautifully kept. I can't say enough good things about this little spot on the Hammond Trail.

Sweet Oasis

Well designed... Beautifully decorated..peaceful and inviting... We loved our stay and plan on going back. The only problem was that the GPS directed us to the street behind the property. The kind neighbor came out and directed us to the correct street. aparently this was not the first time that this had happened as he knew exactly where we were trying to go.

We love that you can hear the ocean and Mad River from this lovely place. Great location and has everything you need to be comfortable. The yard is so well maintained and provides a peaceful place to be outside. The owners are awesome.

Peaceful spot and convienient location

We are repeat guests because we love this property and its amenities. It is located along the Hammond Trail where there are many options for walks. There is a great sauna that I used every day. The yard is beautiful and the backyard is perfect for letting your dog roam. The property owners are great.

Beautiful little retreat home

What a lovely little apartment! The beautifully landscaped garden was an unexpected plus and the fenced in back yard would have been perfect if we'd brought our dog. Sadly, didn't recall seeing any of that reflected in the description. Joellen was extremely responsive, especially when we initially had a little trouble with the lock. And the place was spotless! Location was like being in the country, and one could easily have not gotten in your car during the whole stay with numerous hiking trails nearby. Highly recommend!

Exceptional VRBO

We have stayed in a few rentals in Humboldt Co and have always had a wonderful time with very nice properties but this one rose to the top of the list upon entering the yard! Exceptional landscaping and privacy! Little attached cottage had everything we need! Very well done! Comfortable bed with a slider for cool air. Nice accessibility to area beaches and forests. Will definitely stay again!

A very pleasant Humboldt stay

We enjoyed this peaceful property! It was great to be able to bring our dogs to visit our homesick college freshman. Beautiful grounds. We loved the sauna. The unexpected view was a bonus. Felt very secure behind the gated driveway.

It's super accessible from the freeway and within close proximity to the redwoods and beach. Plus, it's right on a trail (bike, walk, horse) and has an expansive view including a garden, pasture, and distant ocean view (on clear days)!

What makes this property unique

Guests tell us that they enjoy the cedar sauna and outdoor shower after a day out exploring. They feel cozy in the living room with the gas stove. People who like to cook will be happy about the appliances and sharp knives. Many people appreciate the garden and generally feel relaxed and rejuvenated from the property. Those with dogs like the direct yard access from the bedroom and like the dog bed, paw towels, and food/water bowls we provide.
