Family friendly! Cozy cabin in the Village of Cloudcroft

Unfortunately for us we took a chance on Jerry as a first time guest and it turned out less than positive. Jerry did not respond to the pre-stay message asking him to confirm number of guests and understanding of basic cabin rules, etc. He and his wife checked in almost an hour early but the cabin was ready so we didn't mention it. We provide propane for the grill upon guest request so that we can remind them of the need to clean it after use. We are in the woods and our forest neighbors love uncleaned BBQ's. As disclosed, we live next door with a shared driveway and have full propane bottles available when requested. Jerry didn't communicate at all prior to and during his stay and took the "empty" propane bottle from the fire pit, used it to grill the first day of his stay and left the grill dirty. The ceiling height at the door of the bathroom is 7 ft 6 inches, at the shower head 6 ft 11 inches and does not drop to 6 feet until the rim of the toilet. We all have different preferences for mattresses and pillows so for our guests comfort we provide options in pillows and mattresses. One mattress has a 3 inch memory foam topper for guests that prefer a softer sleep, the other is slightly firmer for guests that prefer that. Upon his departure there were broken tiles in the kitchen. I immediately sent him a message asking if he kept the piece that broke off so we could mitigate the cost of the repair and he finally responded more than 24 hours later that the tile was broken upon his arrival and he "dodged it all weekend." The tile was not broken prior to Jerry's stay and I wasn't going to argue with what appeared to be a hostile guest. Normally we don't sweat the small stuff but this is an extensive repair that required blocking our calendar so we requested coverage under his travel insurance policy for $500, the cost of the repair, not $1000. House rules weren't followed, no communication during the stay and the damage caused led us to an honest and fair review of Jerry.
