Why they chose this property
Golf Ridge located on the foothills overlooking Moanalua Golf Club, has a unique and storied history and one that includes witness to one of the very first flights in Hawaii.
It was December 31, 1910 in Hawaii’s Moanalua Valley and aviation was just getting started worldwide. The Wright Brothers had flown 7 years earlier in Kitty Hawk and now it was Hawaii’s turn to make history. With 3,000 spectators looking on and thousands more in the foothills overlooking Samuel Damon’s Moanalua Polo Field (Moanalua Golf Club), “Bud" Mars made the first airplane flights in Honolulu, Hawaii with his 32 foot long Diez-Schriver Biplane.
He was later quoted, “I find your Hawaiian air currents rather tough ones, but everything else was lovely.” And the plane was Christened "Honolulu Skylark”. See more about Hawaii's First Flight at: https://imagesofoldhawaii.com/bud-mars/
