Welcome to Shepherd's Run!
We love dogs and welcome all breeds and sizes! This fully renovated, cozy cabin sits on 1.6 acres surrounded by pastures, mountain views, and abundant wildlife. The grounds are covered in wild peppermint, filling the air with a refreshing, natural fragrance. Your furry family members will delight in two fenced outdoor play areas: one features a fire pit, seesaw, three truck tires to run through or jump over, a sniffari route with stones, hay, and posts to explore, jolly balls of all sizes, a fillable pool (stored under the deck), and a huge sandbox for digging — fun for all!
Conveniently located just off Old Highway 5, you’re only minutes from Downtown Ellijay, outdoor adventures, restaurants, shopping, groceries, and within walking distance to the annual Apple Festival.
The 800 sqft cottage, built in 1940, was previously a free-range chicken farm with chickens, cats, roosters, bunnies, and turkeys roaming freely. After acquiring it in 2022, we completely renovated the bathroom, built a custom kitchen cabinet, added new lighting, and installed a much-needed dishwasher. The shiny red roof perfectly matches the bright red doors and our mood.
The back porch was fully redone and gated for dog safety, with stairs leading to a small fenced area. The metal gate can be opened to access the large fenced yard.
Inside, you’ll find two king-size beds, nightstand lamps with charging ports, a butcher block kitchen table with seating for four, and a comfy leather sofa with plenty of blankets and pillows for cozy evenings by the electric fireplace. We recently added a soundbar and installed a new larger ROKU TV for extra special movie nights. Furniture covers allow your dogs to snuggle right alongside you. A large dog crate sits next to the sofa, one more crate is located in the second bedroom and a variety of dog supplies are conveniently stored in the kitchen cabinet. We love this place and hope you and your furry friends have a wonderful stay!

You have access to all areas of the cottage except the locked storage cabinet and crawlspace.

Ellijay, Georgia, known as the "Apple Capital" of Georgia, is located between the Ellijay and Cartecay Rivers where they join to make the Coosawattee River. It is also the county seat of Gilmer County, Georgia. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, prefer fine dining, enjoy vineyard tours or lose yourself shopping for handmade arts and crafts - Ellijay and surrounding areas seem to have an endless array of activities to offer.
The famous Georgia Apple Festival takes place every October right down the street from our cottage. Some of the best apple orchards are local to the area as well. Did I mention the wonderful Farmers market, the many delicious eateries located right off the square?
There are hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, countless camping opportunities, numerous fishing spots located along the rivers. In the mood for tubing? So much to explore. ENJOY!

We had an excellent time here. Andrea was very responsive and we had no issues with the reservation. The cabin had everything we needed and my two dogs loved playing in the backyard. I would recommend to anyone looking to get away with their pups. Thank you for allowing us to stay here and make great memories.

Great stay

We have stayed in Andrea’s homes the last three trips we’ve taken to Ellijay. If you want a place where you and your furry family feel right at home, choose one of her properties. She is an excellent host and everything you need for your comfort and your pup’s comfort is provided. Just bring your food or eat at any of the restaurants in town and you’re set. The absolute best accommodations we have ever experienced with our sweet Bernese Mountain Dogs!

From the cozy cabin to the outside area with a fire pit and play areas for your best four-legged friends, Shepherds Run provides an awesome experience! We have two very big and very sweet Bernese mountain dogs. They played their hearts out and enjoyed every minute we spent there. The accommodations include everything you could need for you and your dogs. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds are very comfortable and the outside areas are conducive to play and relaxation. We will definitely be coming back to Shepherds Run.

Wonderful Cabin with lots of fun activities for the dogs!!!

We loved our stay at Shepherds Run and so did our 3 dogs!!! The cabin is adorable, with 2 king size bedrooms and dog bowls and crates already available!!! Our dogs had fun in the fully fenced play yard, digging in the sand and playing on the agility seesaw and running thru the truck tires. The cabin has both front and rear fenced in porches with table, chairs and dog amenities as well. Lots of stuff to do in Ellijay, some fine stores as well as pubs and restaurants. We had a relaxing time, and have already rebooked for a week in November!!

A wonderful stay in a gorgeous place.

The cabin was literally less than 5 minutes from town yet secluded enough that every morning and evening we were treated to a small herd of deer in the field out back and a few late afternoon visits by a gaggle of turkeys. Amenities for my fur babies were amazing-a large fenced in yard to run through, treats, toys and raised beds, both on the porch and by the fire pit. The cabin itself was clean, well maintained and a comfortable place to return to at the end of each day after exploring local sights and trails. Andrea was great, responded immediately to my request to extend my stay by additional time. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and will definitely be returning.

Peaceful Getaway

We absolutely loved our stay at Shepard’s Run! The view is amazing and sitting on the porch in the morning having coffee was so peaceful. We loved seeing all the animals and that our dogs could join us on our trip. They thought of of everything for your dog’s needs. A very charming and cozy home! Highly recommend!

Shepherd’s Run, relaxing

So nice to have a place welcoming my dog, Kodi. He could relax in the yard while I relaxed outside. You just can’t do that in a hotel. Wonderful park nearby to walk or Carter’s Lake for nature trails. Small downtown with cute stores, very dog friendly all around. I will return.

What a fantastic experience!!

I stayed at shepherds run. The place was so amazing for my fur babies. We loved the house but most importantly the area that was FENCED in so my pups could run and play. Then off of the sitting area was a smaller fenced in area that was just perfect for night time bathroom breaks!! One other thing about shepherds run is the ease of getting all your belongings in and out of the house!! Hoping to go back in the fall!!

Amazing and breathtaking

If you are looking for the best place to stay in Ellijay look no more. Sheppards Lounge has everything you can imagine. Top home with plenty of space for our furry friends. The outdoor area is detailed and clean very well maintained. The fire pit is an even greater added bonus. I can’t wait to return.

Outstanding Property in GA Mountains to go with your Pet

This wonderful and cozy property exceeded all expectations. Very pet friendly and the home has everything needed to immediately feel at home for both the humans and their pets. The owner was outstanding and responsive to every need, including delivering wood for the fire ring personally on Thanksgiving day! Every pet need facilitated including dishes, toys, large fenced yard, leashes, etc. Close to Ellijay attractions and downtown, also great hiking and local adventures. Will be our first choice when returning to the area.

Awesome place for humans and pups! Secret gem!

We loved loved loved staying at Shepherd’s Run with our two pups. Everything was super clean, no need to bring anything but yourself and your fur baby(babies). The cabin is nestled between lush green forest and the most tranquil meadow filled with wild life. And last but not least, let’s not forget about our hostess Andrea. One of the most accommodating souls I have ever met. Friendly, responsive and so caring. Vielen Dank!

Dog Dream

We had a great trip, the location is perfect a 5 min drive if that, the other direction you have all the stores you could think of if you forget anything. In the mornings we enjoyed going to breakfast and going for a walk just down the road with the dogs. Wineries.. we love them we had a few favorite.. Roo Mountain (Great views), Fainting Goat Vineyards, but our personal favorite was Cairn View Winery.. we went there twice. Shepherds Run had everything you needed for your dogs, it was everything everyone said. I would love to go back to try one of their other properties sometime. If you are looking to watch wildlife and have a campfire this is the place for you.. It was amazing having the dogs in an enclosed space.

Great stay, perfect Cabin

We arrived late on Monday night, Cabin was ready and check in was a breeze. Cabin was spotless and well prepared for the dogs & Humans Cozy Cabin with 2 outdoor Areas for the pooch, one small for a quick run out and a bigger area for a good run. The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, it was wet and cold the whole week but we stayed warm & dry even managed a fire on the last night. Regular check-in from Andrea the host really made everything easy. We ordered from the Mexican Restaurant behind Starbucks - excellent and the Bread shop by Walmart was good as well but apart from the cabin the highlight was Roo Mountain Winery, dog friendly with great food and drinks. We will be back

Peaceful home away from home

We enjoyed our time at Shepherds Run last week with our Labrador. Andrea is a very thoughtful host not only for the humans in the family, but also for the furry ones. The home was comfortable and well stocked. There is a large fenced in yard for the pups so you can relax around the fire pit and know they’re safely contained. There’s also a nice porch on which to enjoy your meals or relax with a book. Andrea includes raised beds, treats, towels, toys…everything your furry friends need to feel welcomed, too! We look forward to many more visits to Ellijay and will be staying at these properties. Thanks again for making us all feel at home!

A blissful escape

Shepherd's Run was exactly what we needed to escape the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. I was really touched by the dog details of the treats, toys, and the cabin knowing that dogs are messy and can get messy. I liked how the rooms were kept, the convenience of laundry and all the items we needed to cook. And the little town around Shepherd's Run was close by so we could enjoy more of the cabin. The outdoor firepit was great! Our stay was enjoyable. The cleaning at the end of a stay was not too much to ask for. We went to Saquatch museum and explored the yard to greet the neighbors' horse and dog who were behind in their fence and far enough away to not confront our dogs or potentially create confrontational issues.

This was the best 4 days I have had in many years!

My German Shepherd and I stayed at Shepherd’s Run. We had an amazing time. The house was immaculate but at the same time comfortable and inviting. Everything you and your pup may need has been thoughtfully left for you. We loved the fire pit! We used the field out back to play fetch and Cajun enjoyed running to the creek to take a dip. During the day we went hiking. If you enjoy hiking there are a multitude of options. Cajun enjoyed it so much that when we got ready to leave he wouldn’t get in the car but instead ran back to the house! That probably tells you all you need to know about this delightful retreat!

We absolutely loved the stay

The cabin was perfect for a weekend getaway. We took our two large dogs and we all had a lovely and relaxing time. We didn’t realize that the weekend we went was also the Apple festival weekend so there were a lot of things to do around the area. It was so nice to stay on a property that catered to dogs. They had a pet first aid kit, blankets, towels, leashes, etc. Anything you might need for your furry friend, it was there. The fenced in enclosure was really large, a lot larger than our own backyard space. The fire pit was the perfect thing to the end of the day on a chilly night. The only thing I noticed was there were several poop spots from previous stays that we had to pick up so our dogs wouldn’t get into them

Great view and convenient

We are regular visitors to Ellijay with our dogs and usually stay in cabins that are 20-30 minutes from town. We were interested in being closer for a change and the attraction of this spacious yard for the dogs wooed us. We had a lovely stay, spending most of our time in the charming porch with the gorgeous view (and a ceiling fan that did much to keep things tolerable in the heat). There is traffic noise, of course, but even when we're up in the hills we can't escape that. As others have noted, this will probably be the most dog-friendly place you've ever stayed. The crates are especially appreciated as are sheets and towels for them. Our two pups loved the yard, especially after it was mown. You may be visited by some free-roaming dogs in the neighborhood. We did like being closer to town this time, able to pop out for a meal or thrifting without having to be concerned about the length or condition of the drive. We'll still sometimes stay in more secluded spots, but we also would definitely stay at Shepherd's Run again!

The house is located close to restaurants, breweries, and hiking trails.

We came for a getaway mini-vacation and that’s what we got! We’re from the Florida flatlands so, the hills and mountains here are very beautiful to us. Our furbaby loved taking in all the wildlife and the freedom to explore the property. We enjoyed downtown Ellijay and sampling local beer and cider. But hiking to the top of Amicalola Falls was our favorite thing to do!!

Perfect place for a couple and their fur-child!

My husband and I, along with our German Shepherd, thoroughly enjoyed our extended stay at Shepherds Run! The host, Andrea, was very welcoming and even included a few gifts for our stay which were much appreciated! The house was very well stocked, had plenty of yard space for the pup, and was in a good location. The outdoor fireplace was an added bonus! We had everything we needed, and for the minor items that popped up, Andrea was just a quick call or text away. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone!

A little about me: I’m originally from Austria, a veteran of the service industry, and a lifelong dog lover — I always travel with my dogs. I quickly learned how overwhelming it can be to pack everything just for them. On top of that, sleeping arrangements in many places were mediocre, leading to sleepless nights or sore backs. After long trips, I’d arrive to find empty cabinets, not even a speck of salt, an empty fridge, no shampoo, no laundry detergent — not even a bottle of water. I decided to do better. I created a place stocked with everything I wish I had upon arrival — for both humans and their furbabies. I can’t wait to hear about your experience and any suggestions you have to make your stay even better!

I fell in love with this property at first sight! From the incredible views to the neighboring pastures, and deer strolling by freely — mornings here are absolutely magical. The property is so private, yet so close to everything you might want to explore. Spend your evenings around the fire pit, watching your fur kids play and wrestle in the yard.
